TwitterShelley Long joining ABC's 'Modern Family'
Though ABC has not yet confirmed her casting, sources tell me "Cheers" alum Shelley Long (Diane Chambers) has just signed on to portray Ed O'Neill's ex wife in the single-camera sitcom, "Modern Family."
The series, a mockumentary of sorts following three suburban couples -- one traditional, one gay, one multi-ethnic second marriage -- is set to premiere this fall on ABC.
And, by the way, it's legitimately funny.
O'Neill plays the husband in the multi-ethnic second marriage, with Sofia Vergara as his much-younger, Latina wife.
Adding Long -- as a 60-something, super white first wife -- to that dynamic?
Maybe genius.
We've got high hopes for this "Modern Family" business.
Any thoughts?
UPDATE 12:05 P.M.: ABC has confirmed Shelley Long's casting. She is set to appear in one episode so far.
