POLL: Pick your favorite 'So You Think You Can Dance' guest judge/choreographer
After this week, we'll be halfway through the "So You Think You Can Dance" season, we'll have our Top 10 and we'll be expecting big things in the final episodes of the show.
My favorite "SYTYCD" guest judge and choreographer, Mr. Adam Shankman, will be back in studio the first week of August -- though just to judge, not to choreograph -- But this got me thinking about who the most popular guest judge/choreographer is.
Obviously, Mia Michaels is a major favorite as an artist... though, as a judge, she can rub people the wrong way. But does her overwhelming talent keep her on top? I'm torn, because I love Shankman, Nappy Tabs and Mandy Moore the most, but there are random masterpeices here and there that turn my head. And when you add personality to the mix, things get even more complicated. But I think we should talk about this...
Poll?

Korbi, you didn't include Toni Basil in the list. But maybe you didn't include her because she only judges and doesn't choreograph?
After her last appearance, I decided I liked her quite a bit; she had good comments.
Choreography-wise, I probably enjoy Mia, Sonya, Wade, Adam and Louis van Amstel the most. But like you said, many of the choreographers are capable of really great work here and there.
I sort of liked Dan Keraty as a judge (though he was a bit critical), but his dances mostly sucked.
I never saw Alex da Silva judge, but unlike most of the others, his choreography always seemed too difficult for the dancers. He never tried to show them off; it was either do it up to his level or suck trying. But I don't think we'll be seeing him again anytime soon unless he's acquitted of his sexual ***ault charges...
I've become very disappointed with Tyce lately; I really hate his Broadway (but I like his jazz) and he's kind of ****y as a judge.
I'm a little over Lil C's double talk too, but he's interesting at least.
All in all, I think Adam is my favorite judge. He's enthusiastic, insightful and charming.
Actually, if I could have my wish, they'd put Mary Murphy back in the rotation as a guest judge. While I like her a lot, she's better in smaller doses.
For me, judging and choreographing are two totally different things.
My favorite judge is Lil'C because he is so eloquent and very smart, but I don't love crunk, so I never love the dances he choreographs.
As for fav choreographer... tough one. Mia Michaels is on quite often and I always love what she does. But Wade Robson is probably my fav because he was sorely missed last season and it is so great to have him back.
Honorable mentions to Napoleon and Tabitha, who are awesome, Sonya, who is quirky and Jean-Marc, who manages to make ball room interesting.
I agree that the judging and choreography are really pretty separate activities, and so should have separate polls. Adam Shankman and Li'l C are my favorite j-u-dges :-)
Favorite choreographers are Wade, Mia, Nappy Tabs, Sonya, and Jean-Marc.
what about doriana sanchez? her disco routines are always so much fun to watch!
this really should be a separate question - favorite judge. favorite choreographer.
I would have to say nappy tabs, I love how they add storylines to hip hop coreography also I love sonya
Mary Martin use to get on my nerves with her hot tamale train, but now it just makes me laugh. I love the whole show and this year is the best. My fav. choreograher is Sonya, she is very dark. I think Mia is a great judge and I can not stand to even listen to Toni Basil...
My top three...
1)Wade Robson
2)Tabitha and Napoleon D'umo
3)Mia Michaels
I noticed several missing choreographers, including some that have also judged. But I suppose if they put them all on the list it'd get out of control...
I'd agree with much of what Varris said, including picking Shankman as a favorite when weighing both judging and choreographing. But I voted for Wade Robson - for me, when he's "on" he makes Mia at her best look bloody incompetent. Not everything he's done has been gold, and he's only judged a couple times I think but he's still my favorite.
Agree, also, that Tyce brings little to the table except when he's choreographing non-Broadway routines, which have actually been pretty fantastic in the past.
Also a big fan of Sonya, the Bollywood guy, Joey, and that Hunter guy who did ballroom stuff (hasn't been on this year, at least not yet, and I think was only on once or twice last season); he always seemed to make the Viennese Waltz something beautiful to watch, though Tony & Melanie have been doing a great job of it this season.
As for Lil C, I like him but I think all that double-talk sounds a lot more intelligent than it actually is. I think he's a smart cookie, but sometimes he's like a sober, coherent Paula Abdul (i.e., word-salad nonsense, but more coherent and thoughtful than Ms. Abdul seems capable of).
