'Vampire Diaries' booting 'Smallville' out of Thursday spot?
Will "Smallville" move to Fridays for its ninth and final season? Looks that way.
Though The CW won't confirm its schedule until tomorrow morning's Upfront presentation, word is "Vampire Diaries" -- the Ian Somerhalder show based on the popular book series about a girl torn between two blood-sucking brothers -- will be paired with "Supernatural," taking "Smallville"'s Thursday 8 p.m. slot.

at this point they are milking smallville it should have ended when he wentto work at the planet.
that said this has been the best season in a few.
As others have commented (on other sites) it makes sense for The CW to set up Thursdays for years to come by establishing 1 show this year (or at least they are hoping to with Vampire) and then only having to replace 1 show (Supernatural - which is also in its last year supposedly) rather than try to replace both in 2010.
Also it makes sense for CW to try to recapture an audience on Fridays - or at least recapture what they lost when they let Smackdown go following the 07/08 season.
So let's be clear: There's not room for Privileged or Reaper or The Game or Everybody Hates Chris or Body Politic or the Lily spinoff.....but THERE IS room for a Friday repeat of the Top Model program which aired two days earlier?
Can someone please have the balls to stand up and ask Dawn and Les exactly why we've had to endure "encores" of Top Model since this network began? In an era where people DVR or tape or download a show they may have missed? PLEASE. Get an answer to this. Why would CW waste the large Smallville lead-in audience...on a lowly reality rerun?
Jonah, you think if we all write to the network and tell them there's nothing worth watching, they'll change their minds?
I hate this feeling that despite the potential of the shows the CW decided to throw away, there's nothing we can do about it. I feel so bitter about it and I shouldn't since it's just tv, but BP was the first pilot in years I've so looked forward to, and to see it (and the CW's only other quality shows) p***ed over for the likes of Melrose and Light Years (or whatever it's called now) just makes me angry.
Reaper Fridays at 9pm, Hello?
I liked the Thursday-night pairing as it was. "Smallville", and "Supernatural" went well, together!!! With "Ghost Whisperer", and "Medium"'s move to (CBS) Friday nights, I am supernaturally booked, on Fridays...and, depending on what time it moves to, I might have a 'triple-whammy' (if it's at 8:00pm, and conflicts with "Ghost Whisperer", and Disney Channel's "The Suite Life on Deck"). I had a feeling that this would be its last season ("Smallville", that is)...and, that kind of makes sense...I really don't think that they could get too much more out of it....(and, if "Supernatural" is really only going to be a '5-season arc', this will be its last season, too)...So, I don't think that moving it is wise, or kind....Moving it might cause it to lose some of its audience (due to confusion, aggravation, etc.)...and, it should stay where it belongs, as long as it's around...."Smallville", and "Supernatural" found a good home, (and a good show-mate [each other]), on Thursdays...and, the CW schedule for that night, should stay as it was. (The only possible change would be, if they aired news later, and added a 10:00 'prime-time' slot).
I am SO sick of this ridiculous obsession/fascination that Americans/girls/people today, have with all the "Vampire" crap, and their ridiculous 'romantic notions' about it! :-| Does anyone else think that the whole vampire thing has been beaten to death (or, 'undead'-th), lately?! :-S It would be nice to see Ian Somerhalder in something, again...But, 'vampires' are SO tired...(:-S)...And, "Smallville" should stay on Thursday nights!!! (Those two, [current] Thursday-night shows are the only things that I watch on The CW [since "Veronica Mars" got unjustly 'booted', two years ago! :-(])
Not that my opinion will change what they decide, with the schedule...But, CW Thursdays should stay as they've been, for next season!!!

Tom Welling signed the contract for two more seasons not one more. Which will be season 9 and 10.
Anyways Vampire Diaries could be on Wednesday nights and have better ratings on a thursday night. I miss when Smallville was on Tuesdays.
Dear Kristin: Huh?
Don't be fooled by the talk of Supernatural ending after five seasons. Trust me, that will not be the case. And if you read enough interviews with the stars, you'll know that's the case.
Can't Smallville just end its run on Thursday? Do they want to kill it before it has its last episodes? I will completely give up on this network once Supernatural is done.
Ian Somerhalder almost ruined the third season of Smallville for me and now he's the star of the show that booted them out of their three years standing time slot!
