'Parenthood,' 'Community,' 'Mercy' & more: You pumped for NBC's new shows?

Joelmchale NBC picked up six new scripted series this morning and, I must say, my interest is piqued.

"Community" (a comedy about a study group filled with ne'er-do-wells, starring Chevy Chase and "The Soup"'s Joel McHale), "Parenthood" (a one-hour revolving around a single mom who moves her kids to her hometown to be close to her crazy family, starring Maura Tierney and Peter Krause), "Mercy" (a hospital drama told from the nurses' perspective, starring Michelle Trachtenberg and James Tupper) and "100 Questions" (a sitcom about a girl who's turned down multiple marriage proposals and reflects on her friendships/what she really wants from a relationship) all sound kinda good to me.

Of course "Day One" (residents of a suburban California apartment building survive a global catastrophe and must figure out what went down and how to move forward) -- seems like a younger "Jericho" -- could be really sweet or just stupid. But "Greek"'s Derek Mio is in it and I like him, so fingers crossed.

The only one I'm not so pumped about is "Trauma." Described as a "high-octane, adrenaline-filled medical drama about paramedics," it could be cool, but I don't think I'm a high-octane, adrenaline-filled sort of gal.

Relationships and laughs, that's what I care about.

And you?

Of these six NBC pick ups, what're you looking forward to? Let me know, so I can figure out what to cover, who to stalk... you know, all that stuff.

Personally, I'm really looking forward to that Jay Leno show. I mean, he has funny newspaper headlines! And sometimes he goes "Jay"walking! If that's not must see tv then I don't know what is!!

Korbi, Speculation going around now has Chuck only coming back for 13 episodes in the fall (with no back 9 - i.e. producers told in advance that it will only be back for 13 next year) and 1 of 2 possible timeslots: 1) its current Monday at 8; or 2) Wednesday at 8.

What are you hearing about Chuck and NBC's May 19th announcement?

Thanks in advance for any info.

I doubt if I'll check Community. Joel McHale isn't funny and he's the lead so I don't expect much.

Parenthood has a great cast and might work.

Day One sound too much like Jericho. It became a chore to watch it so I'm not excited.

Trauma is designed to be high action and that appeals to a pretty large audience.

Mercy seems like a standard medical show. There aren't too many in the cast that would make me plan to watch the first episode.

As for the new reality show...NO WAY. NBC has to learn a lesson. Reality junk can't support a network! Quality entertainment please!

Probably: "Community" (I do think Joel McHale is funny!) and "100 Questions".

Maybe: "Mercy" and "Trauma".

Probably not: "Day One" and "Parenthood" (though that seems to have a good cast.)

Of course, all of that pales in comparison to not knowing whether or not they will bring back my beloved "Chuck"!!!!

If they handle "Day One" as a 13 part series an definite ending (or at least wrap everything up in satisfying way before doing a second book as opposed to season), I might give it a look. I think most of us are tired of questing shows that never get endings (with LOST and BSG being two wonderful exceptions).

No medical show is ever going to get me excited, much like no matter how much I liked "Practice" or "Boston Legal" you couldn't get my mother to watch a lawyer show - some of us are just biased against certain concepts.

I'll look into that "Community" thing, still not getting what it is about.

"100 Questions" - WOW. There is a show with a simple and interesting pitch. Now it is up to cast and writers to keep me past the pilot.

"Parenthood" - JUST SOUNDS DOOMED. Every season there is that show (or two or three) that just sticks out as "What were they thinking?" It was an OK '90's movie and a failed series already. I can't even see pitching a show sometime last year as "its like that movie 'Parenthood'" - what? Why not change the name to "Parenting" or the street name they live on, or the family name or anything but "Parenthood." I'm not sure familiarity breeds interest with that franchise, sorry. I picture '90s primary color schemes and a Sa****ay night timeslot of death.

Korbi... of these offerings... what do you think? You're the "insider" and we can rely on your instincts. All I can say is I'll watch them all and then decide.

You know Korbi I wonder sometimes what's the "secret" formula that makes a show a hit? Sometimes a network is fortunate when a show becomes an instant hit with the audience. Sometimes if may look good on paper but that "specialness" on the paper doesn't get translated to the screen when it's fully realized and it flops. I believe the networks don't really know if they have a hit on their hands - I mean one that sticks and has staying power - even if they think they do. They all seem to just throw it out there and whatever sticks, it sticks. I think about Married with Children just as an example, who knew that concept would work and became such a hit with the audience.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........oh, excuse me, did you say something??????

I'm looking forward to Trauma and Parenthood. Jury is out on Mercy and the others.

Wow NBC was right. They're blowing of the schedule and going completely radical. Never before have a seen a network create a schedule of try to get to the top with shows so boring that the network is almost sure to go down the drain. NBC is true thinking it needs to hit rock bottom which clearly means falling behind The CW first.

I thought 5 nights of Leno in Primetime was a stupid move for a network, now I see they could make a lot worst.
