'My Boys': The finale is upon us, will it get another season?
The "My Boys" season began just a couple months ago, but it's already ending its third run tonight, and of course, there's quite a bit going on.
P.J. and the boys are traveling to Arizona for Cubs' spring training and I hear real-life Cubbie Mike Fontenot is guest starring. Word is, Brendan's being pursued by one of the player's girls, so I've got to assume Fontenot's the jealous boyfriend. Wonder if he can act...
Either way, it should be fun to see Brando fight it out with a professional athlete, right? I recently spoke with Reid Scott, the actor who plays him, and he told me there's "nothing too too juicy" happening for Brendan because he's the guy who sort of jumps from mini relationship to mini relationship, but there's kind of a nice window left open at the end of this evening's episode.
So, does that nice open window indicate that "My Boys" will return to TBS for a fourth year?
"You never know," said Scott. "It's one of the quandries that come along with doing a cable show. You never know your fate."
Still, though the series isn't a ratings-giant, I'd say the future looks positive for "My Boys" as it has slowly become a flagship show for the network.
"We feel like this is the year that we just hit our stride," Scott shared. "So I would like a couple more seasons to sort of explore some stuff now that we've really found our audience and our voice."
Scott also told me that the network seems quite pleased with "My Boys": "Michael Wright, the VP and head of [programming] at TBS loves our show and he's always been a great, supportive guy in the world of the suits."
Besides, insiders tell me tonight's episode ends on a pretty big cliffhanger, so P.J. and company better come back to resolve that business or there will be many an angry fan.
But, as of now, I have no reason to believe we should be worried. In fact, Scott also told me there's talk around the water cooler that the show could not only return with more episodes next time around, but they may have a shorter hiatus too. "We're all hoping that we were strong enough this season that TBS picks us up for more than just nine and maybe gets us back to work by fall with the premiere on the air by November," he said. "That would be great."
You think so too?
Thoughts on this current season and what you'd like to see happen should "My Boys" come back?

Maybe we'll get one of those double seasons such as season 4 in November and season 4.5 in summer 2010? I'd be all for that. After all S1 was a full 22 and we've only got 18 since then (incl. tonight's S3 finale.)
the season was way too short.
Well, we can hope, but word is they wouldn't find out until September. They got the renewal notice for this past season last October, and look what happened. I haven't seen anything regarding ratings this year, which is a bit odd.
I do agree that not having it come back following a cliffhanger like that would be nasty.
I will be upset if it doesn't come back.
I am one of the pickiest people when it comes to picking a show I actually stick with watching and this is one of the few that have made the cut over the years. I REALLY hope they renew...especially after the cliffhanger last night! I love that this show doesn't follow the norm with a trendy lead. I love the tomboy atmosphere and how they incorporate sports without making it boring. Thanks TBS!
My Boys definitely needs to be on again soon! And for longer....great show
After watching last night's finale, it HAS to come back. If not I will find the suits at TBS and kidnap them until they renew so I can find out the resolution to the cliffhanger.
I don't know lots about the tv biz, but I wonder if it was actually a smart move to shorten these 'sop****re seasons' so the show could make mistakes and build a voice/audience, as noted above.
It's almost too much to dream of to think of a Nov season start! I pledge to do my part and buy DVDs, episodes or whatev. Bc if I don't see how all the characters develop, esp this cliffhanger, I will feel as if I've lost touch with actual friends. And I'm not normally that weird about tv shows!
I hope they will be back real soon like the next week maybe :d.
I really like them and I'm not a sport's fan.
My Boys should come back!! The sooner the better and for the longest possible-- although I did like the idea of two mini seasons, one to start in November and another in the summer... there's something about watching My Boys in the summer... sigh...
