'How I Met Your Mother' makes Monday good, 'Gossip Girl' & 'Heroes'? Not so much

Neilpatrickharris I hate Mondays. I hate Mondays, but I heart "How I Met Your Mother." "HIMYM"? My first priority on this jam packed night of television.

I mean, first of all, Jesus inventing the three-day rule? Stating that the time that lapsed between the good Lord's death and resurrection was Jesus' way of telling the world how long to wait before calling a girl you just met? Only "How I Met Your Mother"'s Barney Stinson could pull that off. And make it somehow sound sensible, to boot. Bless you, Barney Stinson.

Think the show creators purposely made his initials B.S.?

But, no, even more appealing to me than the Barnana's many genius rules, theories and musings, is how ridiculously relatable this series is. Sometimes I think the writers are stalking me, stealing storylines from my real life. What Marshall and Barney did last night -- stealing Ted's phone, switching his new girl's number to theirs and allowing the texting hilarity to ensue -- a couple of my guy friends did it. Just last month. And like Robin, yeah, I eventually found myself participating in the prank. And, come on, the perils of texting and dating? If you're single or have been at any point in the recent past, you know exactly what Ted was talking about yesterday. Don't lie.

So, yes, "HIMYM": On top of its game this week.

"Gossip Girl" on the other hand? Ughhh. Sigh. I'm sorry, I'm bored! I don't care about Serena's revolving door of dumb boyfriends. The series needs to stick to its regular cast and keep the action there... Best line of the night, though, came courtesy of Vanessa, lamenting her decision to sleep with Chuck Bass (twice): "Dan, you're lucky! However bad your life sucks right now, you didn't need an STD panel this week."

Now, back to me hating Monday nights. Why? Because they're insanely overscheduled. If "Chuck" doesn't return for a third season, you can go ahead and blame its time slot. How am I supposed to watch "Chuck" on a night when "HIMYM," "Gossip Girl," "House," "The Hills," "Greek," "Dancing with The Stars," "Heroes," "One Tree Hill" and "24" are also on? Hmm? Answer me that. I mean, I heard the "Chuck" finale was fantastic. But you know what, with four DVR tuners, I still don't have enough space to record it each week. And I know I'm not the only one who'd be watching "Chuck" religiously were it on another evening.

As for "Heroes," I willingly abandoned that show a while ago, but KTV intern Marisa Roffman has stayed quite loyal. Up until now perhaps. Her thoughts on yesterday's finale: "Oh, 'Heroes,' easily the most schizophrenic series on TV. There is so much to say about the season ender, yet so little. Okay, Sylar is gone, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it's for good. I get that Zachary Quinto is a fine actor and a sweet guy, but his character is rapidly approaching the mustache-twirling, cliched villian. Look at a show like "Supernatural." They killed off what was, at the time, their main bad guy back in season two and they've evolved since then. "Heroes" needs to do the same. What more can  Zach Quinto's Sylar accomplish? Sylar-as-Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) is okay for now, but ZQ needs to go. Probably not a decision most fans would agree with, but in order to freshen things up, they need to make bolder moves. Not these cop out deaths that don't stick... What else? Well, the return of Tracy might've been cool had we not already known she was coming back. But kudos to Cristine Rose. Freaking amazing when she discovered Nathan dead. How could you not want to hug her, wailing over the lifeless body of her eldest son?"

Thoughts on Brody cheating on his girlfriend with Audrina last night on "The Hills"? FYI, Brody and GF Jayde are still very much together in real life -- last week, he said they're going on seven months  -- so I guess she forgave him.

And what's this about House trying to kill Chase? And House saying he doesn't want Cameron. Haven't watched the ep yet. What happened?

For shame, Korbi! Ugly baby judges you! How could you choose some of those other shows over Chuck, the best show on Mondays?

And if you really think that sad Gossip Girl quote is funny, then you missed out on Sam Kinison and an indian lesbian.

True story... sorry, Sam. RIP.

What about "The Big Bang Theory?" I even laugh at the repeats. Sheldon and Leonard are Monday's funniest!

OH, totally saw last night's Big Bang Theory, but I screened it at The Paley Festival a couple weeks ago. Laugh out loud funny. Hilarious. Great half hour.

Spock

Chuck is way better than The Hills, GG, Dancing, OTH, House, and Heroes.

I gave up on Heroes about half way through this season I am so happy I did. I loved the first season but after that it just went downhill. Now I have time to watch Chuck, HIMYM, and 24 on Monday nights no problem.

Really you don't watch Chuck...it is by far one of the funniest shows on TV, probably only second to HIMYM, IMHO. The finale rocked, it was laugh out loud funny!

Wow, Chuck easily beats every single one of those other shows you listed. I know its in a tough timeslot, but how you skip it in favor of those is beyond me.

I agree, this week's Big Bang Theory was great.

HIMYM is awesome. After House, it is my number one on monday nights.
