'Gossip Girl': So you're saying you DON'T want Nate & Blair together...?
...Or maybe you do. In fact, some of you do. And some of you don't. And some of you are just really very angry.
The response to last Monday's "Gossip Girl" post in which executive producer Stephanie Savage basically explained that, (a) Nate and Blair's recently rekindled relationship will have a short run that plays out over the season's remaining few episodes and that (b) a Chuck-Blair pairing will most probably be on tap for season 3, was, uh, passionate.
And while the overwhelming majority of you are just livid about having to watch any additional Blair-Nate screen time, there are certainly a few fans who prefer B with Nate over Chuck. And the people with that perspective seem to be pissed about the promise of a Chuck-Blair pairing for fall.
Of course there's also the matters of Chuck and Vanessa -- a few of you don't mind their fraternization, the rest of you want to shave the poor girl's head yourself, then point and laugh at her -- and Blair and Uncle Jack Bass... their secret, that is... which some people seem to think will tear Chuck and Blair apart forever.
Sigh.
I thought I'd highlight a large handful of your reader comments with the hope of putting this debate in better perspective...
I'm sorry stephanie, but i wont invest my time in the blair and nate
storyline at all... and chuck and vanessa? who had this stupid idea?
when cv and nb are done maybe i'll start watching again, but right now
this show isnt worth it. -janisse
-
i guess i'm the only one who doesn't mind the temporary chuck and vanessa pairing. it makes it even hotter that they're going out in real life as well. i will say that gg has been a bit uneven this season, but i still love it. -sali
-
Chuck and Vanessa???????? EWWWWWWWWWWW -Kristin
-
Oh come on... you guys have lost so many fans because of NB and CV, NB is boring and CV is DISGUSTING. you might as well cancel the show completely and save yourself the trouble. everybody wants CB, and about 40% (seriously) is about to give up. The only reason I'm hanging on is because of season 3 which looks promising, as well as the Jack/Blair storyline. But pull yourself together, WE HATE CV AND NB! so not hot! -emilia
-
okay you CB fans need to calm down. I didn't realize this was the "chuck and blair show". Not to mention that there are a lot of fans of the books who watch this show. In the books it was all Nate/Blair. so it really annoys me that they writers are ruining the books by making up stuff. It's even worse that they have decided "endgame" already. Make it a bit more interesting. -lauren

This is not good news for Chuck and Blair fans! It's like "Hang in there" Part two! She goes on and on about NB being destined for one another...it's necessary...they'll grow from this....BLAH BLAH BLAH! CRAP! How is Blair to grow from this when she's become a Stepford girlfriend! She's not being herself at all! She's acting like a toddler. You know who she's herself with...Chuck! That's right! Chuck would see thru that fakeness and tell her straight up! I miss the REAL BLAIR!! And Nate is a moron who likes any girl who they put in front of him! Chuck may be many things, but at least he doesn't pretend to be anything but who he is. Love him for that!!!
Stephanie gave the CB fans nothing as usual!! This season had so much
promise for Chuck and Blair, and the writers have ruined it with
contrived SL's and inconsistent characterizations! They've ruined Chuck
too, he's totally not acting himself with that stupid Elle story
line...WORST...but the TOTAL worst was putting Chuck and VAnessa
together! It's makes no sense...no chemistry either! Chuck and Blair
have this electric, one of kind chemistry I've never seen on TV and the
writers are totally BLOWING IT!!!!
I am so disappointed and pissed off!!!
A little tip for you SS: Chuck and Blair are a freaking gold mine and if it wasn't for them and the amazing acting and chemistry of Ed and Leighton, the show would not have had a second season or a third! It's a shame really. What a waste! -Wendy
-
This is a great interview. I think the writers know what they're talking about. Can't wait for Chuck & Blair! Patience is a virtue, my friends, and we can get through this! -Sue
-
I hate CV, in fact, I hate Vanessa. Chair is destined to be together, and while I can wait and reluctantly accept that Chuck and Blair are to be apart for a while, to grow as people and figure out some stuff before getting together, the less I see of the disgusting pairing that Chuck/Vanessa is the better! Can't stand self righteous, "look at me, I'm better than these rich kids" Vanessa. -Katie
-
If you haven't got CB together by the finale of THIS SEASON, I'm out.
I'm tired waiting, and soon it's not becoming worth it anymore.
Have them together by the finale, with a HAPPY ENDING, so we don't have
to suffer all summer. And bring them a FREAKING AMAZING (yes, it has to
be THAT GOOD to make up for all the other crap) storyline for season 3! -Sandra
-
Every single other couple has had happy time together as a couple. Let's see: Derena had a whole season happy. Nair had happy time. Rufus and Lily are having happy times now. Nate and Vanessa had happy times. Nate and Jenny kind of had happy times like in There Might Be Blood. Hell, even Blair and Marcus had happy times. But no, not Chair. We've had to endure so much bad stuff! And we're the biggest fanbase, that is the reason for them having any viewers at all!
So, either give us a freaking amazing season 3 for CB or loose your precious Gossip Girl. No matter what other fans you may have, CB fans give you the most ratings, believe me. Why do you otherwise think the ratings are sucky nowadays? Exactly. -Julia
-
uh, thanks a lot, stephanie. a lot of us are fans from the book series who LIKE nate and blair together. their scene in "the grandfather" was one of the most genuine and heartfelt scenes all season. stop trying to shove c/b down our throats. as soon as you made the primary focus of the show to revolve around chuck, your damn ratings went down. people do not want to the chuck and blair show. it's an ENSEMBLE cast.
whatever, if she wants to cater to the c/b fangirls, she can. they'll just end up being lame like jim and pam and ryan and marissa did. :] i'll enjoy the few n/b scenes i had while the show continues to go downhill. -alwayshavealwayswill

Although I hate the idea of more CV, I thought this interview sounded quite hopeful. I think the Jack and Blair thing may actually push Chuck and Blair together and she did say in the interview couples can work on the show, so who knows - the big thing with Chuck and Blair next season could be their relationship! If this is the case then I will go through CV and NB as long as we have a good ending. Even Ed Westwick says "watch, watch, watch!" The writers know what we want and they would have to be dumb to not give us it, especially after such a long season. Have faith and writers -- please don't be dumb! -Ava
-
Gotta second the Chuck/Vanessa insanity. I'm nauseated by the relationship roulette. It's so amazing how careless the writers are with their charecterizations. I really want them to make Vanessa more than a plot device who is sent in whenever drama is required. -Kate
-
Korbi, I find it really sad that you made it seem like Chuck/Blair were everyone's couple of choice when a LOT of Nate/Blair fans took the time to ask questions and state their opinions on your last entry. I HATE Chuck/Blair - they make each other miserable and are a poor, pathetic and sadistic portrayal of alleged lust trying to disguise itself as love. I'm going to watch for Nate/Blair the rest of this season - then I'm gone. -Lyla
-
Korbi, I just want to say thank you! This information about C/B and other GG news was great! I guess it's true that they need to be separate for a little while. But even with that said, I'm not liking the Nate-Blair, Chuck-Vanessa thing too much. It doesn't seem right. But I have faith in GG, and will still continue to watch as usual, waiting for C/B :) Still love GG! Korbi, once again, thank you. I just discovered this site, and will definetely check back for more updates from you. You rock :) xoxo -M
-
I'm sorry but I still don't understand the reason why the writers had to put Nate and Blair back together. Don't they realize that Blair is absolutely pathetic with him. I used to love her, but now when she appears on my TV screen i want to slap her.
And I may be in the minority but I love Chuck and Vanessa, they have great chemistry.
And now I want them to be together since I no longer ship Chuck/Blair (Blair/Nate 3.0 ruined them for me, thank you writers!) -emilie
-
Nicely reported, Korbi. Well except for the part where you were shilling for Savage by saying that CV were hot. They are a lame plot device written by voyeurs who would rather add buzz of a real-life couple than actually follow a character's continuity or development. If V won't go away (my preference is a great film school opportunity in CA) than she needs to be developed. Right now, she suffers from Mary Sue syndrome. She is the writer's useless plot device. She needs to be more than a poor man's Blair. I'd like to see her really struggle with that insult from Nate but also let it show her that Blair is not a bad human being. Vanessa has always been really crappy to her and she is just as human as anyone else. Give V individuality and make her interesting. Ultimately, I think she needs to end up with a Humphrey but currently, more and more, she just feels like Oliver from the Brady Bunch. He ruined that show. Just saying... -Kristin
-
I think I agree with investing on the Nate and Blair relationship. It's nice to see growth in their characters. Actually, I would really like Nate and Blair to end up together because there seems to be more stability between the two. On the other hand, the Chuck-Vanessa team-up is not bad, seeing two people from different worlds and seeing how that goes. -c'est moi
-
Sorry fellow GG fans, while I LOVE Chuck and Blair, I am enjoying the Nate-Blair interlude, so I will side with Stephanie on this one. Although I could totally do with out Chuck and Vanessa!!
And yay for the resolution of the Uncle Bass - Blair storyline.
Finally, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, for the love all things holy, STOP USING STUPID NAMES LIKE "BLUCK" "CHAIR" "NAIR"!!!That is so five years ago. -Allie2
-
I don't think that the Jack secret will ruin CB, because actually Chuck found the secret out in episode 15 and in the end he went to blair to apologize... i don't think he would have done that if she had slept with jack! well i'm quite happy with this interview the only thing that bothers me is CV, it's everything else but hot..but i knew that this thing between them wouldn't be over so quick, at least it goes on now and doesn't come back in season 3 (i hope so). -Anonymous
-
stephanie is just trying to defend the **** writing and its not working! Not to mention Jack and blair SL, and its sounds big so blair probably did sleep with Jack, so CB is even more unlikely. CB will be top priority for S3, they we're meant to be for s2!!!! So another season of build up, just to end it off with NB, how effing wonderful. Oh great more CV. I really don't think J/S want viewers any more?! There is actually nothing good about CB. At least in the OC, Summer and Seth were together at some point in the first 2 seasons. Worst interview ever. -nanda
...I thought I'd end things on a positive note.
Oh, and p.s., as you may or may not already know, I'm pretty sure the season will cap with an "I love you" from Chuck to Blair. Does that ease any of the above pain? No doubt it'll exacerbate some of it...

i don't understand why the didn't listen to the good news that chuck and blair will be together next season, not that it matters to me ( i can't stand wither character)and i think that they are trying to make Nate and Blair grow is a good thing. Besides the chase is much better than the actual relationship
As long as Chuck & Blair are together in the end (and I have very little (if any) doubt that they will be) then I am willing to suffer through a little of her & Nate. And despite that I really want Vanessa to be with Nate, I am actually enjoying her & Chuck (maybe its the fact that the two actors that play them are dating in real life).
yes c will propose to b and v will get pregnant with c's child....
Korbi, I hope you know that we're all grateful to you for doing the interview in the first place. Nothing was meant to be negative towards you. The fact is, CB fans are beyond angry, and they have every right to be. Like it or not, the majority of viewers are heavily invested in this ship (and that's not an opinion, that's a fact -- check all the polls, the overwhelming support for CB on message boards, the media articles, etc., etc.). NB should have died a long time ago, and it wasn't until the rumor of their reunion started that the shipper wars really kicked into high gear. CB fans have REPEATEDLY gotten the short end of the stick. It's been two seasons, and we still haven't seen them together. I can't even look forward to a possible reunion in the finale, because I'm afraid they'll break them up again like they did in last year's finale.
I don't think you can deny that people have every reason to be upset. Not only did NB come back (and for almost six episodes!), but they hooked C up with V, which is disgusting, and a relationship I will NEVER support. I said for months that if they did that, it would be my breaking point. They did it, and as a result I stopped watching. I knew it was coming thanks to the Canadian recappers, and I made the decision not to watch 2.20. I'm not watching 2.21, either. NB have shippers, but not many (and yes, that's a fact, too). They represent possibly 15% of the fanbase. And they have gotten their couple THREE times. CBers have gotten their couple not ONCE in two seasons. A lot of CB shippers feel used by the writers. Everyone knows that CB was a big reason the show got a second season. We were told this season would be about CB. Well, it wasn't. We've had multiple episodes where they don't interact at all, we've had to watch Chuck chase after Elle, we've had to watch Blair sleep with Carter and reunite with Nate, and to top it all off, we've had to see C sleep with V (and we've been told that relationship will continue for a bit!!!). During all of this f**kery, we've been told to "hang in there." Meanwhile, we've had NB shoved in our faces at every possible turn (pics, never ending spoilers, etc.). They have really treated CB fans like crap. They've jerked us around time and time again, and the real kicker is, some of these storylines don't even make sense! Even if I wasn't a shipper, I wouldn't be able to make heads or tales of the Elle story, or even CV.
CB fans haven't gotten any possibly positive spoilers since SS's interview. I say "possibly," because she said they were "looking at" season three for Chuck and Blair. For all I know, that means CB don't end the season together. It also means that next season might have nothing to do with CB, since we were promised a season about them this year, and they most certainly did not deliver. People are upset! They don't believe the producers anymore, and they don't trust the writing. I don't see how they can blame us for being angry; frankly, I think they enjoy abusing their biggest fanbase. They want us to keep watching, but how can I watch when every time I turn around, there's another nightmare in wait? Elle? NB? CV? It's all terrible. Even if they do finally put CB together, I'm afraid they're just going to break them up. They created a fascinating, hot pairing with CB, and excuse us if we get the impression that the writers don't really even like this couple. We've had some great moments, but ever since 2.13, it's just been one WTF after the other.
I know it seems silly to care this much about a television show, but people do invest their time (and very often their money) in this show. The viewers are what keeps GG afloat, and although I don't expect the writers to pander to the fans all the time, they still need to understand how people feel about the show.
At this point, I am anticipating yet ANOTHER CBN triangle in the future, as well as a VCB triangle. I do not want to see either of those, but I have no faith that it won't happen. I also think people would be significantly less upset if these stories didn't come out of nowhere and be so poorly executed as to force fans to fanwank an explanation for a character's actions. It's insane. I plan on watching the finale, and it's possible I'll start to watch even earlier (2.22). But you can most certainly count me out for 2.21.
I'm truly sorry, Korbi, you do not deserve any kind of flack. You're awesome, and we are not in any way angry with you. We just feel jerked around and toyed with, and we're sick of it.
LOL! I was happy last week, because I figured that Chuck and Blair would reunite in the finale and then be a couple in season 3. But now your reiteration of the email severely worries me. Does this literally mean that Chuck and Blair don't reunite at all this season, and we have to wait around again in season two?
Or is this finale "I love you" sequence going to be a definite reunion NOT interrupted by the Blair/Jack secret?
Regardless, I'm just crossing my fingers that Chuck and Blair get good build up while Blair is with Nate. I don't want another horribly rushed and pointless reunion like last season's finale.
The main problem -for me- is we where promised CB last year after the S1 finale. And that's what made me okay with Chuck and Blair not getting together properly as a couple until season two. It meant we got to see them trying to get there footing in a relationship together. All we've had is one disappointment after another and Nate and Blair trying out there relationship again, something that should have been done at the beginning of the season. The problem IS, we have Nate and Blair, together as a couple for what looks like 4 episodes, one of which will be totally NB centric without and Chuck, and then they give us Chuck ILU in the season finale? Missing every important part of there relationship as they, especially Chuck, try to make it work. Im not happy at all and im not inclined to believe anything SS says.
Why should Chuck and Blair fans not be mad at the fact that yet AGAIN, Nate and Blair have the end of the season to themselves. Im not watching untill 2x22, Chuck back to his S1 self because the writers like to forget all the charactor development he had this year to drive forward there stupid *** storylines.
You shouldn't get backlash Korbi, but if JS and SS are 'out there on the web' as they say they are they should have know NB was a bad idea from the start. And does not slot in with the rest of the season.
I'm so sorry about the major freak out, Korbi. CBer are just really mad about have to deal with NB again.. We all just want that the NBC triangle to end.. We all know that Chuck is the winner( Thank god) but the journey has been pretty rough on us.. so.. Sorry.
i want JENNY AND NATE TOGHETER , BALRI AND CHUCK AND DAN AND SERENA TOGHETER ...STOP!
Yeah... so I was the shilling comment. You were great and this was a nice little reminder that some of us are being childish. I was just still mad about what the writers have done since after 215. YOU are great. I apologize.
I'm sorry korbi if you tought we were disrespectful with you... it's not the case, the problem is that we've been hanging in there for so long, some people just lost their patience... again, sorry, you are really nice
