TwitterMariska Hargitay: Absent from 'SVU' for rest of season? Rep says no
Though "Law & Order: SVU"'s leading lady Mariska Hargitay returned to work after suffering from a collapsed lung in January, rumor has it that her latest trip to the hospital will force Hargitay to leave "SVU" for the remainder of the season.
The actress was rushed to the ER because of complications relating to her lung condition on March 3rd and In Touch Weekly is now reporting that, after undergoing surgery for said condition last week, Hargitay's recovery will force "SVU" producers to write her out of the show through spring.
Her people, however, have told me this is nothing but hearsay. "Mariska is recovering well and is returning to this show this season," a rep for the star insists. "She is only missing one episode."
So, thoughts? Would you continue watching "SVU" if Mariska went M.I.A. for a while? Are you relieved to hear she intends to be back on set shortly?

We watched when she was MIA for maternity leave.
I wish Mariska a complete recovery. Whatever is best for her is best for the show in the long run.
I'm relieved Neal Baer shot down this rumor right away (I hadn't even seen the In Touch report yet!). I watch SVU because of Chris and Mariska and am really glad she's only going to miss one episode. Now I can't wait to hear news on CM and MH's contracts - Korbi, can you get us the scoop, pleeeeeeeeease?
To answer your question - I definitely plan on watching the episode she's missing. As long as her absence is temporary I can deal with it. I watched the show when she was on maternity leave because I knew she was coming back - even though as an E/O shipper Dani Beck was one bitter pill to swallow and it felt like those six episodes were never going to end.
mariska IS the show.
I wish her nothing but the best and hope she doesn't miss many shows. With that said, the show was MUCH better in the early years when they focused on the stories and the ensemble cast instead of just Elliott and Olivia's personal turmoil.
Perhaps this will give them an opportunity to get Belzer and ICE-T involved a little more like in the old days.
Thank you so much for shooting down this rumor! Had I heard the rumor before this information, I'm sure I would have been pulling my hair out. I'm glad to hear that Mariska will still only be missing one episode, more so because that means she's doing okay health-wise than for the show. That being said, she's my favorite and it would be a bummer if she were missing the whole season! Now if only we knew if she & Chris were coming back for a season 11!! :D
So glad to hear she is doing better and recuperating and more so knowing she is missing just one episode, and hopefully we'll have a season 11(maybe more?) to continue enjoying watching this show.
Now on your question:
When Mariska was in maternity leave, I watched because I knew she was coming back and also the rest o the cast was there to mitigate her absence, but honestly I stared watching SVU because of the Olivia character, so to be frank if she leaves I'll probably would give the show the benefit of the doubt watching few episodes, if I don't like it then that will be it for me.
SUV is my favorite show out of
all the other Law and Order
shows.
