Breaking: Former '90210' star Jessica Lucas moves down the street to 'Melrose'

Remember the under cover police chick who almost cost "90210"'s Ryan Matthews (Ryan Eggold) his job at West Bev? Seems she's moving to a neighboring zip code. Well, the actress who played her is.

Probably better known -- though not to me -- for her role in 2008's "Cloverfield," Jessica Lucas has been cast as a wealthy yet altruistic inner-city school teacher on The CW's "Melrose Place" pilot.

Word is, her character Riley Richmond is engaged to fellow Melrose resident Jonah, played by "Greek" star Michael Rady, but the two will experience relationship problems right from the series' start.

In addition to Rady, Lucas will be working with Katie Cassidy and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz who were recently cast as well.

So I guess New Melrose isn't set in the same universe as 90210. This casting is just stupid.

If Michael Rady is going to be on the Melrose Place 2.0 does this mean we won't be seeing him on Greek?

Well technically speaking the universe is already broken. Linda Gray (Models, Inc.) played Ethan's grandma in the pilot and more prominently speaking we can't forget that Rob Estes (Harry) was on the original MP.

The only saving grace for this show is if Heather Locklear was back on. Bad idea to remake this show...Ashlee Simpson?? She can't sing her way out of a paper bag, let alone act.

Ashlee is a decent singer (if not a decent songwriter) and a decent actress--we can't forget she got her start acting and no one had heard of her before she left 7th Heaven. But I agree, the Linda Grey/Rob Estes thing was a stretch already, now they're recycling an actress that people are going to recognize from the previous season? Whatevs...
