Exclusive: Is Michael Scott Leaving 'The Office'?
Last month, news of actor Idris Elba joining The Office for six episodes broke and we learned The Wire star will be playing a character who will cause Michael Scott quite a lot of trouble. Promoted to Jan's old job at corporate -- despite Michael's insistence that the position belongs to him -- the new boss man will usher an unprecedented level of discomfort into Dunder Mifflin. And, well, word on the street is Elba's character isn't just causing that drama in New York City. No, on the contrary, he's moving in on Scranton. So, yeah, stay tuned for a hostile takeover, 'cause sources tell me it's surely in the cards...
I mean, remember when Dwight Schrute abandoned DM to go work at Staples? What's coming up will be like that. Except way bigger. I'm hearing Michael might even have a Jerry Maguire moment on his way out, and one loyal (and pretty major) employee may follow him through the door (which hits them both in the butt as they leave... not really, but you know what I mean).
So, thoughts? You ready for a possible Scranton shakeup?

Here is the key; Mr. Elba is signed on for 6 episodes, so any changes won't be permanent. So your fear-mongering tactics won't work with me! (I am not intending any offense, just playing around). I know that Michael Scott will always be the boss of Dunder Mifflin, Scranton! Cause there ain't no party like a Scranton party, cause the Scranton party don't stop!
Think you could give us an additional hint on who the other character is that's leaving? At least, since you say "pretty major" and not "major," it's not Jim, Pam or Dwight, is it?
Could you give us some more Gossip Girl spoilers? Please? Chuck/Blair fans are dying, despite everyone's re***urances that they are not forgotten.
I want positive news re: Chuck and Blair...please please please.
Also, whatever happened to the big NYE secret b/n Jack and Blair? Seems as if the writers just dropped it.
I hope it's Pam that follows Michael out. It'd make more "entertainment/drama"-sense than Dwight following him, since those two could theoretically have their own separate show.
If Pam follows, it'd strengthen the Michael/Pam friendship, it'd cause friction with Jim, and it would allow for an internal coup crafted by Jim (and maybe Dwight, although it'd be better if Dwight fell in line with the new boss... he's like that).
If Jim followed Michael, it wouldn't make much sense.
I don't know if anyone else would be as interesting to follow Michael... maybe Andy, because he's such a yes-man...
I'm thinking the other character leaving is Andy.
Jim would leave with Michael.
and
If Carrell leaves the show, I'm right behind him (he makes it what it is)
The office could survive with out Michael, and maybe even better. I like Steve Carrel (sp?) but his character is soooo over the top it is painful. However the show could not survive with out Jim, Pam or Dwight.
I love Idris from 'The Wire' and am really interested to see him in a comedy.... I'm sure he'll be great, though. He's and amazing actor.
Michael makes the show. If he leaves, I will not watch any more.
I can't see Michael leaving permanently- Steve Carell makes that show. But I can see him taking an episode or two off and then coming back in dramatic fashion. And I love Idris on The Wire- Now I'm trying to imagine him on a comedy.
