Declarations of Love, Flirting & WTF Moments: 'Lost' Ep 5.3 is My Favorite So Far...
When ABC gifted the TV journos with an advanced screening of Lost episode 5.3 a couple weeks back, I have to say, it was the highlight of January Press Tour. Why? Because this season's third installment -- which airs tonight -- puts episodes 1 and 2 to shame -- and that's saying a lot considering the complete absence of all Oceanic 6ers, you will not see Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, Sun or Aaron this evening -- I mean, I suppose it's possible that we were all just delirious from days and days of TCA activities. But I'm telling you, as the hour played out, I'm pretty sure I heard some laughs and stunned gasps coming from that ballroom full of jaded, overtired TV critics.
So what can I say without spoiling the fun? Though this season's episodes don't really center on a single character, if you had to pinpoint one major player in tonight's activities, it would be Desmond. We'll watch him experience a life-changing event within the first few minutes of the hour and witness his truly selfless and loyal nature as the night goes on.
Back on the Island, several crazy things will go down. Locke and Richard Alpert are all up in that business, but prepare to meet new Others. And with their arrival, a fresh and interesting fact about their kind will be revealed. Also, you may just fall in love with Charlotte and Daniel Faraday this evening. That is, if their affection for one another isn't overshadowed by some faint flirting between Sawyer and Juliet. Yep.
As you may have already heard, Lost bosses Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are saying that we'll really delve into the Island's long history this season, but tonight you'll get a true sense of it for the first time. There is one moment in particular that will have you both gasping and getting a good, little laugh.
One last note: Charlie's name will be mentioned this evening and it might just make you cry. I fully teared up at the tender moment. But I'm a huge loser. So, I don't know, maybe you won't. But yeah, either way, the sentiment will be appreciated by longtime Lost fans. As I said, this hour is solid.

Desmond episodes seem to always bring it and all the ones centering on him are in my top 10 best episodes. Can't wait!
Des and Penny named their baby Charlie? That's awesome.
Korbi, I have never been a Lost fan...I thought "ok, that show seems cool, strange, whatever but it's just not my kinda thing" plus way too much hype for my taste...of course that was before lack of anything else on t.v. made me tune in to the special "recap" episode last week and I heard Desmond say "brotha" for the first time! HOLY JUMPIN'!!!! If someone had just told me that this amazingly sexy man was on this show I would have been watching long before now! (And I know that you and your fellow Lost-lovin' journalist colleagues probably have written about him but I stupidly never really read any of the Lost postings before!)
So I am one of the converted and I will be tuning in tonight...oh not to even come close to figure out what the heck is going on in the twisty-turny goodness but to listen, watch, and drool over Desmond! sigh
can't wait!!!!!!
Having seen the third episode myself, I have to agree with you that the third episode is truly the best of season so far. If you thought the first two episodes of the season were good, you haven't seen anything yet.
Tonight's episode really shows what can be done with the time traveling twist. If you were skeptical of the time traveling twist I think tonight's episode will make you change your mind.
If the first three episodes of this season are any indication of what we can expect the rest of the season, the fifth season of Lost will truly be special.
I feel like there are so many themes in season 5 its going to be great! Has anyone heard of Al Trautwig - the Knicks/Rangers commentator..he's also a HUGE LOST FAN and started a weekly video blog where he shares his LOST theories. I find it really interesting..He brings up some good points about time travel and how he thinks Miles is Dr. Marvin's son! watch it here:

Wasn't sure if I would stick with Lost but this makes me feel like I must.
I'm tired of the Oceanic six so the break was nice. I love Locke. He remains the best. Desmond just reminded me of how much I miss the characters and pairing of Charlie and Claire. It was somewhat fitting Desmond named his son Charlie since Charlie helped reunite Desmond and Penny but Desmond's premonition was wrong and Claire&Aaron were not rescued and together instead annoying Kate has Claire's son and Charlie died to save them and it failed which totally sucks.
Korbi you took the words right out of my mouth. Last weeks episodes of Lost had me fuming with dread and despair because I felt that the show was waaaaaayyyyy to intuned with the mythology and not its characters. Hurly was last week's saving point. But tonight was what last week should have been. A healthy balance of both characterization and mythology. Desmond will always come out a good character and I pray that nothing happens to him and Penny. Talk about not a dry eye in the house if that happens...
