Korbi superlaTiVes: 'Pushing Daisies' & 'Project Runway'
I watched a lot of television last night. But two shows stood out...
Best Looking: Pushing Daisies... the whole damn thing. Last night's Circus Circus episode was so pretty to look at, it pretty much topped its pretty track record. Spending an hour in this delicious world can be likened to biting into a perfectly baked piece of your favorite pie. It is gourmet food for the eyes.
Most Talented: Pushing Daisies' Olive Snook. Whether she's singing like an angel or spouting stream of consciousness, when that lady's lips part, you're entertained. It's no wonder Emerson Cod called her "Employee of The Mouth" last night.
Best Dressed: I hate to say it -- because her rude disposition in Project Runway episodes past definitely rubbed me the wrong way -- but Kenley's bridesmaid was adorable. I'd buy that dress without hesitation. However, I hated her wedding gown, which the judges found so fabulous. Just me?
And P.S., I dug both Jerell's opulent bride and her aquamarine attendant. His aesthetic is hip. I think Klum, Kors and Garcia were way too hard on him. But I predict Leanne will win the final prize next week. Her taste level and impeccable design skills lead the pack.
Your thoughts on last night's TV? Have I overlooked something worth talking about?
My thoughts on Wednesday nights are..."The Night Is Too BORING!"
Mondays have all of the shows.
Hey Korbi how do you feel about the ratings Daisies is getting?
Fourth place in the hour, well behind Knight Rider thats pathetic and sad.
You probably wont read this as you never answer anything I post down here so...!J!HJFGIUWHFIUHW.
chad | Oct 9, 2008 2:07:06 PM | #chad, how could you say such a thing. i read ALL the comments!! and i think i've answered your questions before... i think. anyway, i feel depressed about the daisies' ratings. i think they speak to the tv viewers reluctance to try something new. daisies is a beautiful example of television as art. knight rider is rehashed rubbish.
korbi_ghosh | Oct 9, 2008 2:20:57 PM | #I predicted from the first episode last year that Pushing Daisies was too good and too smart to succeed on network TV. I still hope I'm wrong, but the declining ratings don't bode well.
It's great to see Diana Scarwid (Lee Pace's mother on Wonderfalls, another brilliant show that didn't make it) appearing as the Mother Superior at the very colorful nunnery.
Steve7701 | Oct 9, 2008 2:34:46 PM | #The only show worth watching on Wednesday night is BONES. Last night's episode was awesome!
Britt | Oct 9, 2008 4:27:33 PM | #Am I the only one becoming rapidly disenchanted with Pushing Daisies? It's still beautifully visually, and yes, there are some good lines in there. But the way they are developing some of the characters is driving me crazy. Ned and Chuck both come off as self-centered, uncaring jerks in how little they care about Olive's breakdown and their own culpability in it. Except of course how it inconveniences them. Chuck is annoying in how she wants everyone to live life how she wants them to do so. Ned is coming off as a loser who has no life unless it revolves around Chuck. The only people keeping me hanging on are Olive and Emerson.
As for Project Runway, I was so bummed when I saw how Kenley's dresses looked because I knew she was going to end up going to fashion week. I really wanted it to be Leanne, Kato and Jarel. Leanne's my favorite now, but I would be OK with Kato winning too. Kenley has just pissed me off too much.
jen | Oct 9, 2008 5:35:11 PM | #HA! jen, i do agree with what you've (so eloquently) said about chuck and ned. but emerson, olive and the aunts are so charming, i'm still in.
korbi_ghosh | Oct 9, 2008 6:05:40 PM | #Thanks for answering the question.
chad | Oct 9, 2008 8:42:09 PM | #I loved Pushing Daisies ever seen one of its promos in a magazine got me an A on my pysch paper about stimuls and that stuff. I really hope there is some way that it can be saved. Chuck and Ned are annoying but I really only watch the show for Emmerson and Olive. I at least want see the gum shoe publised before it ends.
Mikw | Oct 10, 2008 8:55:47 AM | #For those of us with DirecTv, the best show on Wednesday night is Friday Night Lights, no contest. I tried Pushing Daisies a few times, it's just not for me. I actually felt a little guilty for not enjoying it- and it is pretty, but just not my kind of thing.
Janlew | Oct 10, 2008 9:08:17 AM | #well i disagree that chuck comes off as self centered and selfish. i mean here's her chance at a second life and if it were me, i wouldn't want to go back to living like a shut in. chuck now has the freedom to do what she want and she should take advantage of that. i guess i'm one of the few who loves the entire cast. and that's a rarity!
hopefully TPTB finds a way to keep daisies on, whether they move the show to a new timeslot, switch networks (hopefully not), or whether there's a new system that counts online viewership into the ratings. *crosses fingers*
as for project runway, i loved kenley in the beginning, then she turned a bit evil. but i'm still rootin' for her. i do agree with you that her wedding dress was a little....weird. a little too big bird for me. based on the designers' collections: 3. korto 2. kenley 1. leanne
john t. | Oct 10, 2008 9:23:02 AM | #Mad Men spoilers pretty pretty please! : )
kellek | Oct 10, 2008 9:24:56 AM | #Chuck annoying? Self-centered? NO WAY! Look at how concerned she is about all of the crime victims. Emerson is just out to make a buck, and Ned sometimes just seems to be along for the ride, but Chuck is really out there trying to help people.
Anna Friel's smile is so dazzling she outshines even the colorful scenery on this wonderful show.
steve7701 | Oct 10, 2008 10:09:20 AM | #I have been watching Bones and Dirty Sexy Money on Wednesday nights. =D
Bird | Oct 10, 2008 1:59:00 PM | #i love pushing daisies. though i admit that it's olive, emerson and the aunts that keep me entertained.
chuck and ned give me the good warm fuzzies, but i care more about the mystery of the week than their romance.
olive is... olive. and she's the reason why i'm so hopelessly devoted to pushing daisies.
jason | Oct 11, 2008 8:48:50 AM | #Question: Do you guys think I should be covering Friday Night Lights right now while it's running on DTV, or should I wait until midseason when it's on NBC and everyone can watch? It is such good TV that it's weird to NOT cover it, but I don't want to spoil it for those who don't have DTV. Any thoughts?
korbi_ghosh | Oct 11, 2008 3:31:48 PM | #PLEASE, PLEASE don't cover until it's on regular tv. I can't resist reading your wonderful coverage and that would just RUIN it for me...
suzanne | Oct 11, 2008 3:49:12 PM | #I agree, I'd prefer for you to wait until it's on NBC since so few people can see it right now.
Katie | Oct 12, 2008 1:12:36 PM | #Love Pushing Daisies but wasn't overly crazy about the circus episode. Can't wait for the PR finale!! Leanne all the way! Oh, and Korbi, I hope you're watching Life on Mars...that was pretty good last week.
Melissa | Oct 13, 2008 11:07:47 AM | #I am watching Life on Mars, indeed. Just got off the phone with Josh Appelbaum, the e.p. :) So check back for info on that.
korbi_ghosh | Oct 13, 2008 11:20:14 AM | #Is it too soon to start sending pies and/or olives to ABC to avoid the possibility of cancellation?
me | Oct 14, 2008 9:47:43 AM | #I know many people find Kristin Chenoweth delightful, but she annoys me to no end. I'm not even sure exactly what bugs me so much, I'm sure she's a nice person. She just makes me want to turn the channel, and her voice makes my head hurt. I find the show overall pretty enjoyable (Emerson Cod is my favorite), but Kristin, not so much.
