'Smallville's' Season Premiere: What's In Store
This Thursday, Smallville returns to The CW and, as I'm sure you've heard, The Justice League -- led by the Green Arrow -- will be in search of Clark, who's been M.I.A. since the fortress collapsed last Spring. But is the Green Arrow on Clark's side? In this first hour, the two will get into a knock down drag out fist fight and G.A. will later pierce the man of steel's chest with two near fatal darts. And Chloe, of all people, will be instrumental in getting the Green Arrow on this mission. So, what's going on? Has the Smallville world gone mad?
Could be. Things will certainly change in this eighth season of the series and there are a couple new characters who have much to do with that. We won't meet Doomsday this week, but Tess Mercer -- the lady now in charge of Lex's estate -- will play a major role in the premiere episode's events. Expect to learn more about the tough villainess this Thursday -- she comes from very humble beginnings, taught herself to read and is Harvard-educated -- and to see a face off between her and Lois pretty early on.
For those of you who're a bit skeptical about a Lex-less season, you should at least give this new year a shot. There's a lot going on, more humor and many winks to Clark's ultimate destiny. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Though, if you disagree, don't let me stop you from commenting below. Let's discuss...
Smallville should have been canceled 2 yrs ago, & watching the non-chemistry/brother-sister of version of Bimbo Lois & Clark?

mjs | Sep 15, 2008 4:16:16 PM | #Been a fan since the Pilot; and I to am warry. Of the main characters, only Clark and Chloe are left and all the interviews so far act like Chloe's being replaced in personality, and Clark possibly is as well.
Tess, from what I've heard, sounds awesome - but what fun is a villain if the protagonists I love are gone?

| Sep 15, 2008 5:29:08 PM | #As a Superman fan I never got into Smallville. Clark was whiney and rather unlikeable and I didn't care much for Lana and Chloe - what was the point?
I tuned in season 4 with the introduction of Lois Lane, but by the end of season 5 the lack of real character growth and the whole Lana and Clark drama dragged the show down.
After hearing all talk about this season (finally some character development!) I'm really excited to see how Clark and Lois grow into their respective iconic selves.
So I guess I've been pulled back in for another season!

By making him look like a whiney depressed idiot it's sort of ruined the feel of the show. That being said recent spoilers seem to give me hope but the fact it's on a networked geared towards teenage females always worries me and new producers or not they might go back to there old tricks trying to play up the relationship angle with all females.

But I have to say, that this policy of no tights and no flights is misguided; and the farther they diverge from the original myth (very different from exploring it in depth), the more the show will drive me away.
I'm open to seeing what they do, but it has got to get away from the soap operaish, jump-to-conclusions and then rush to fix things kind of junk that they did a good amount of the time last season.
I want to see Clark apologizing a whole lot less and kicking bad guys' buts from McCain territory to Obamaland and back again. And I want to see Clark (not Bizarro-Clark) fly. He did it in the episode "Reckoning." Did you think we'd forget CW?

I like Lois and Chloe equally and am anxious to see what the new producers are going to do with them both. Since almost all the characters are in the comic books I love to see the hints they give to their ultimate destinies. One thing I am most looking forward to is Clark, Lois and Jimmy working at the Daily Planet together just like all the other interpretations.

| Sep 15, 2008 11:37:18 PM | #I find Smallville's Lois to be the biggest joke on the whole show. People need to understand that this is an AU/Elseworlds sort of scenario. Don't bother aligning with 'mythos' and just take her out because she's nothing but a name and plot device. Compare this show to "Lois and Clark" with Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain and see how the proper Lois Lane and Clark Kent should interact on a TV show. Smallville lost it's chance of doing just that 3 seasons ago when they started butchering Erica Durance's character. Now, I can't stand her anymore.
Tess looks awesome, can't wait to see what she'll do.

They should never have had Clark behave like such a fool with his stupid Lana fixation, and having him chase such a nasty, self-centered girl, just as nasty as she is in the comics, and even worse, sleep with her; that was a travesty and depicts Clark as so selfish he cares only for himself and whines about wanting to be normal. They also screwed up totally by telling us Lois Lane is an uneducated bimbo who couldn't even graduate form high school and who writes tabloid crap for the Daily Planet, where she got hired for her looks and not her talent and screwed her editor for favors. That is an insult to the mythos and the fans and to smart, educated women everywhere.
Durance's character is nothing like what the real Lois Lane should be and the actress is perfectly awful. It's no wonder so many people look at Chloe as the real Lois of the show, since, after all, Chloe has always been interested in journalism and earned her way into the Daily Planet as the real Lois always would.
Tom Welling and Allison Mack and others of the cast are great at their craft and do the best with what they are given but even they cannot save this awful nonsense. Fans have waited for seven years to see Clark grow up and earn his way into the Daily Planet and be a real hero, not to see him handed a job there in the same wrong way as Durance's Not-Lois did. Even worse, we saw Chloe, the only real reporter on the show, fired by the bad guy because she helped Clark and Clark refused to even consider working at the Daily Planet last season because it would be taking advantage of his best friend's misfortune, something Nois had no qualms about and that's another reason fans don't like her. Now we see Clark seems quickly over that bit of loyalty and now doesn't care if he works for the bad guys or takes advantage of Chloe's misfortune either. Superman is not the kind of guy who would or should do that and this is the biggest load of bushwa I've ever heard.
This show has become a pathetic example of what happens when a network like the CW and a bunch of producers who care nothing for the legend and only care about sleaze (and pairing Clark Kent with every nasty girl who comes along) and profit get hold of characters formerly beloved by generations of Americans. Nothing good can come of it.
I hope Tom Welling can escape to better things soon; he deserves more than to be stuck with this appalling albatross of a show.
No Lana. No Smallville. I'm done with this show.

Here it is. This show isn't called THE CHLOE SULLIVAN show. I like Chloe a lot, she's one of my favorite characters. I adore Allison Mack. But for the life of me, I don't get why some of you so called "fans" only watch the show b/c of Chloe and then complain when you "don't get your way". What did you expect?
This is a show about Clark Kent. Deal with it. It revolves arould Clark. Not Chloe. Stop crying about how "your character is not getting the love" from the networks, etc b/c you should have been smarter than that. You should have known. So you are all gluttons for punishment and NOT true SV fans.
Don't let the door hit you on the a&& on the way out.
Smallville will do just fine without you.
Now go write some fanfics where Chloe turns into Lois Lane and be happy instead of coming in here and being negative about something you were never going to give a chance to, or be objective about.

Erica Durance is not your enemy. She doesn’t write Smallville and she did not create the Superman Universe. She is an actress making a living the same as Allison Mack. Speaking of Allison Mack, who despite the ravings of her most loyal fan boys, although a decent actress she is no Meryl Streep. It is even funnier how Erica gets labeled a bimbo for wearing formfitting clothes that cover a great deal of her anatomy while Allison gets celebrated for showing Cleavage or Chloevage as her fans call it. It all boils down to sour grapes. The more it seems Clark and Lois are moving toward their destiny the more vicious and numerous the attacks are on Lois and more importantly the actress who plays Lois. Your agenda is obvious, it is old, and quite well known (Chlark/Chlois). It really is pathetic and childish and does not reflect well on a fan base where I am sure the majority of AM fans are just as nice and mature as the actress herself. Newsflash Smallville does not revolve around Chloe Sullivan. Not everyone who watches the show watch for Chloe Sullivan. So if you are not going to watch then don’t watch but do the rest of us who plan to remain loyal a favor and stop trying to rain on our parade.
