'Greek's' Dilshad Vadsaria Talks Rebecca, Cappie and Thomas Calabro

Dilshadvadsaria_greeks2_240 Whether you love Greek's Rebecca Logan -- as I do -- or despise the senator's daughter, there's no denying that Dilshad Vadsaria, who plays the controversial Cyprus Rhoades freshman, is kind of awesome. I sat down with her on set (in Kappa Tau's backyard, actually) this Summer to chat about her character, Cappie and what it's like to play Thomas Calabro's kid. She couldn't have been cooler...

I think you’re one of the few cast members who actually did have the full four year college experience, yeah?
I did. I did go to college.

Were you in a sorority?
[Laughs] I was in a sorority and then I realized it wasn’t for me, so I kinda left. I think, for me, I just had so many great friends outside of the house who I wasn’t getting to spend as much time with and I also think I was a little crazy to join with all the fees and the dues. I was putting myself through school, so I wasn't thinking. I went through the rush process because it was fun and some of my friends were doing it and things like that. But I ended up meeting one of my best friends in the world in my pledge class, so that was really cool. We're still in touch, she's like my other half. But the sorority thing itself, when we had to dress up on Sundays to go to meetings, [laughs] I was in my pajamas.

When you were auditioning for Rebecca, did you think about your sorority experience at all?
It went through my mind, but I was more focused on the character because Rebecca comes from this world that I’m not familiar with, you know? She's had this very privileged life that's been lived out in public, and scrutinized in public. She really knows how to put on a show. In the beginning, there was a lot of emphasis put on the fact that she was a senator’s daughter. That was what the audience knew of Rebecca, so that’s mostly what I focused on. I knew that the college life would play out in the scenes, if that makes sense, so I concentrated on her particular characteristics, what she would be like.

But she's really sort of changed and softened since we first met her. I think we were supposed to hate her in the beginning.
Yeah. And then you kind of found out why she is the way she is. What I love and so appreciate is that the writers have given me so many different colors to play with. And I like that she’s controversial. I like that she’ll do things that make you want to like her. But then she still has that edge to her, which makes the audience go, why?! She’s driving us crazy!

Were you happy when you found out she'd be hooking up with Cappie?
I thought that was really interesting and I never saw it coming. I really liked it because they’re such opposites. And it’s really nice to work with Scott [Michael Foster] in those scenes because he’s so great. We're able to play off each other really well and I think there’s chemistry there. With these two characters, you’re like, I wasn’t expecting that! So that's pretty cool. I hope the audience enjoys that.

Scott told me his mom is worried the two of you are going to break up. She really wants you guys to stay together.
Really?! Oh, he didn’t tell me that. His mom is the sweetest. I’ve met his whole family, they’re really nice people. That makes me happy, because I feel like we’ve given the audience something to feel and to get attached to.

Rebecca’s got a lot of issues with her family right now. I know her angst over that will continue. Will Thomas Calabro, who plays her dad, be back?
I’m not sure. But even without him being here, his character has a huge presence in the storyline. And I think they may introduce Rebecca's mom. I’m not exactly sure when it’s going to happen, but I think they’re going to start thinking about who they would cast as my mom. And I do hope they bring Thomas Calabro back, because he is amazing to work with. He was really, really cool. He has all this experience, so he'd give me little tidbits of information and little pieces of advice here and there when we were on set. Stuff that only someone [who's worked as long as he has] would know by now.

Did you ever watch Melrose Place?
I watched reruns of it. [Laughs] I know all about Dr. Michael Mancini! It was such a huge show. And I can kind of relate to him because he was a New York actor and then he came here and got Melrose Place, and I also studied acting in New York and then I came here, because my teacher kicked me out. He kicks all his students out.

He knew you were ready.
It’s like, two years and then you’re done. You can either study someplace else or you can move out to Los Angeles or go work wherever. He specifically told me, you go to LA. And I was like, but I don’t want to go, I’m so scared! And he said, go to LA. So I did.

Seems like things are working out for you.
Yeah, it’s good. Not too shabby at all.

rebecca has been my favorite character since the first episode, dilsahd is amamzing in the role. i am a die-hard cabecca shipper so i right there with Scott's mom and extremely worried they will break them up (they are a fabulous couple and have the most amazing chemistry) well i know they will break them up in favor of a pairing (caslie) that does absolutely nothing for me

Rebecca is my favorite too. I know they're breaking up, thanks to Korbi's scoop, but I agree with Scott's mom and mary. I hope the writers reconsider. CABECCA!
