Jason Priestley Says No To '90210'

Jasonpriestley_sideorderoflife_240 While it was reported last month that Jason Priestley might be into the idea of directing episodes of the CW's 90210 spin off, he has now confirmed that the chances of him reprising his role as boy scout Brandon Walsh are slim to none. "No, that's not happening," he told me on the set of ABC Family's Secret Life of The American Teenager late last week, where he is directing the show's ninth hour. "247 episodes as Brandon Walsh was enough. Why would I go back to that? What's the point?," he said with a light-hearted laugh.

Still, he's not completely disinterested in the new series. "What's the internet saying today about Shannen [Doherty] coming back?," he later asked me. I told him it was happening and he smiled, saying, "This is so surreal" with a shake of his head.

The good-natured 90210 vet has no problem talking about the show that jump-started his career. After reading my Peach Pit-obsessed bio, which a Secret Life writer knew he'd get a kick out of, Priestley asked if I'd been to West L.A.'s Apple Pan diner. "That's what the Peach Pit was modeled after," he said. "If you watch the early episodes of 90210, the Peach Pit is laid out almost exactly like the Apple Pan. Whenever I'd have dinner with Charles Rosin, the show runner, we'd go there. You have to check it out. The burgers are amazing."

That's too bad...it would be like a reunion.

Your bio rocks! I though having 3 DVRs was too many but now I can aspire to having at least one more!

You're so silly. I love it. So you say no Jason and Matt Mitovitch has video of Dylan, err, Luke saying no too. And Brian's all Terminator-like. Looks like it's only the ladies who want in.

Isn't that the way it always works out?? A show will make someone a 'star' and when they speak of a reunion that so called 'star' balks at the idea...'OH!!! THAT'S RUBBISH!! I DON'T NEED THAT SHOW ANYMORE!!' That's exactly what's happened here. Jason...get over yourself...

I understand Jason's decision. I'd love to see Brandon back, but this is his career and Luke's career, they have to do what is best for them right now. Maybe they'll reconsider in the future. I don't think Jason needs to get over himself, actually it sounds like he is a great guy.

Once Luke Perry signs on, Jason will be unable to resist in revisiting the love triangle that the original series thrived on. C'mon Brandon!

Luke and Jason are unreal - if it wasn't for the original BH 90210, they wouldn't be as successful today. When the calls stop coming in, they will be back. Otherwise, they need to keep their negative/scarcastic thoughts to themselves.

EJ | Jul 7, 2008 4:51:28 PM | #

neither of them have said anything negative publicly

P | Jul 7, 2008 4:58:41 PM | #

Yeah yeah!
Because they made it big on the show they should be required to go back on it again for the next 40 years. Then when they die they should have to donate their body to a museum dedicated to the show. Anything less than that would be pure egotism on their parts. Cmon people.

While we're at it, Demi Moore should go back to "General Hospital" and Leonardo DiCaprio should do every "Growing Pains" reunion that comes along. For that matter, we should all go back to the minimum wage jobs we had as teenagers. After all, they gave us our start.

Carrie | Jul 7, 2008 6:52:56 PM | #

Yes Brendan and Dylan Not Looking back I wouldn't either.

Timothy | Jul 7, 2008 9:08:06 PM | #

No one said they should go back to it "for the next 40 years," and the situations with Moore and DiCaprio -- who likely have much more demanding careers -- are quite different. The point is that no, Jason is not in any way honour-bound to do this; it'd simply be courteous if he did.

JC | Jul 9, 2008 5:41:42 AM | #

Yeah, Priestley, we're sure your bloated appearance has "nothing" to do with your lack of interest. Plus, you're just SOOOOOOOO busy these days, right? Really in demand!

No, no, wouldn't want to give your loyal 90210 fans any kind of thrill, would ya, now? No, no. That would be asking too much. Are you as big of a prima donna jerk as you're coming off, with this refusal to appear?

Jim | Jul 9, 2008 7:02:28 AM | #

If the shows a hit they will all be back

pats8052 | Jul 9, 2008 8:50:22 AM | #

Ooh, I love the Apple Pan. Try the Banana Cream Pie. Yum.

Lisa | Jul 9, 2008 8:13:17 PM | #

Just because he chooses not to reprise his role dosent mean he dosent appreciate being on 90210. Anyway, it was ok that Jennie was coming back but now its just turning into a 90210 reunion. This show was supposed to be about new kids but now its about where the old characters are now. Its ridiculous.

Aimee | Jul 9, 2008 9:31:07 PM | #

Yes, actors should never grow tired of a role and never retire it. They are obligated to do whatever fans want when they want it because they say so. Obviously they are arrogant jerks to make their own career decisions and politely decline. Apparently some of you haven't matured beyond the age you were when the show originally aired.

ferretrick | Jul 10, 2008 5:16:16 AM | #

it should have been about a reunion anyway..."New" 90210 kids will just turn out to be another Gossip Girl/Hills/Laguna Beach/One Tree Hill bunch of crap.

saney | Jul 10, 2008 3:54:23 PM | #

YES, you owe it to your fans at least, you don't necessarily have to be Brandon Walsh until the end, just you know we would just want to see you there, of course with KELLY! Haha! And yeah let's just bring the old cast back, looks like they're more popular still than the new kids...
