'Last Comic Standing': Who Will Make The Final Eight

By Korbi Ghosh

June 20, 03:00 PM

Lastcomicstanding6_bill_240 Last night, Last Comic Standing revealed season six's 32 finalists -- if you're blanking on who's who, you can check them out here -- and if you're watching the show, you no doubt have favorites that you're hoping to see move forward. I'm told 12 will ultimately make it into the LCS house over the next few weeks, then four more will be eliminated leaving eight finalists for the world to vote for. Reliable sources tell me those eight finalists are made up of seven dudes and one lady. If you want to know their names now, keep reading...

Louis Ramey
Marcus (the impressionist)
Adam Hunter
Ron G
Jeff Dye
Iliza Shlesinger
Sean Cullen
Jim Tavare

You happy with this crop of comics? Anyone you're sad to not see on the list?

When is when? When is enough enough?

How many talent/competition/reality shows do we really need in our TV world? And why is anyone watching them? And why is anyone recapping or reporting about them?

How many dance competitions?

Cooking competitions?

Design (clothing, architecture, etc.) competitions?

Singing and talent competitions?

Physical, social and mental agility, skill and intelligence competitions?

These ‘competitions’ used to be regulated to half-hour game shows (Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, still around) airing in the middays, afternoons or early evenings and on deep cable, but now it’s morphed into 2-hour long episodes in prime time hours on all the major networks.

I know the genre is cheap to produce and occasionally draws tens of millions of viewers, however, is that what we REALLY want for the majority of our prime time entertainment?

I wish someone had the balls to address this and the terrible impact it’s having on the television medium.

Ugh. What's happened to TV. So sad.

IDC, i get what you're saying, but have hold up. while some of the TV competition shows are dumb and not worth our precious time, so many of them provide an outlet for incredible talent to shine. all the amazing designers on project runway, the phenomenal dancers on SYTYCD, the genius comics on LCS. if the competition introduces me to people who are stars in their own right, but need these tv shows for their talent to be seen, i've got no problem with it. and actually think it's a beautiful thing.

I agree IDC. But it's summer. We need to tough it out for a few more months.

I like Last Comic Standing, but it's better when they get to the finalist stages. These early ones have been annoying. I'm sorry to see the Muslim girl not making it!!

I think Jeff Dye was pretty funny. Iliza as the last female comic seriously? I would rather have Andy Smith(she auditioned last year too I think) or Shirza(the muslim girl)

I'm not liking this season at all nothing could top the first season but this is by far the worst.

Korbi,
I agree with most of what you said in response to IDC, but "genius comics" of LCS? I don't think so. Mediocre at best. Besides if the were real geniuses, why haven't we seen any of the past winners on their own tv show?

scott | Jun 21, 2008 9:03:04 AM | #

IDC, how many channels does your TV get, and how many of them are showing these competitions at any given time? I'm sure it's a small percentage.

LCS is the only one I know of that shows comedians.

okay, okay, scott, ha, i wondered if someone was gonna call me out on that :) i paused before writing the word "genius," yes, but in the end, i went with it, because though they might not be genius comics, many of them have at least MOMENTS of genius, and that's better than i could ever do, so... uh, yeah. thanks for your comment ;)kg

Dan Naturman got screwed again?

JT | Jun 21, 2008 11:05:31 PM | #

If the muslim girl doesn't make it I'll stop watching...

I thought "Who the hell do you think is answering those phones?" was one of the most clever lines I've ever heard on the show, so if the Indian student goes I will not be happy.

But then, the ones I like NEVER make it past the semis.

Pete Lee was easily the funniest I've seen in forever. His whole bit was hysterical and brilliant, and his timing was impeccable.

Jim Tavare?! How far is Double Bass humor really going to go? I agree with JT - Dan Naturman did get screwed again. And Pete Lee should have made it in, too. This season is looking pretty weak.

i'll wait to see who the eight will be when the show airs, but up to this point i think this has been a strong season. i love stand up comedy and so LCS is obviously one of my favorite reality/competition shows... but last season was weak. sure there was some funny stuff during the challenges and house moments, but the stand-up itself wasnt that strong and most of the good ones either didn't make it to the house or got kicked off fairly early - this season though i have seen many talented stand-ups with good timing and quality material - sure they left a few good ones behind in exchnage for some lesser talented comedians with better stories, but things are looking pretty good with most of the 32 this season.

Where the *(&^$ is Dale Jones???

Gary | Jun 24, 2008 8:51:50 AM | #

Aww, no Mary Mack? I think she's funnier than anyone else there...

I used to LOVE Last Comic Standing. The first two seasons were awesome. Unfortunetly, now there isn't anything about the show that doesn't feel ABSOLUTELY RIGGED. It's just awful at this point. A complete shell of the greatness it once was. It's probably the most disappointed I've ever been in the decline of a show.

I was furious last night even though I knew the results, I thought my favoriites might have bombed. I remember the first season when Dan Naturman was by far the funniest guy on the show, and Drew Carey, and Brett Butler were judges. They walked off the stage because they did not vote for any of the contestants selected for the show. They were informed that their input was accepted, but the final decision was up to the producers. Ron G was absolutely terrible last night, I did not even chuckle, while Dan, The black lady from DC, and The Indian lady had people in tears. Even the quarky guy from the South that talked about his ex-wife was hilarious.

Greg | Jun 27, 2008 12:43:54 PM | #

So far none of the ones I like have gotten through? But crap like God's Pottery (what the heck are they anyway??) get through. Dan Neuterman, Dale (the southern funny face guy) and many others are far funnier than the bunch that is there now. I just don't get what they are judged on. These people are not funny. Adam is OK... and I do remember likeing Marcus the impressionist so that's good...but these others are just not funny. Myabe they will be better for the live shows. We will see...so far a very disappointing season. Season 1 was so the best even if the wrong man won. Long live Rich Voss and Dave Mordal!!!!

Lisa | Jun 29, 2008 9:51:42 AM | #

The Muslim gal was funny, but she repeated too much of her material. I think she was rejected because she didn't have enough material to come up with something fresh every week as the show goes on.
