Breaking: Rob Estes is '90210's' New Jim Walsh

By Korbi Ghosh

Robestes3_womensmurderclub_240Early this week, Rob Estes (Women's Murder Club, Melrose Place) was offered the role of Harry Mills, the cool dad that moves his clan to Beverly Hills in the pilot of the CW's 90210 spin off. However, I'm told his deal has just closed and he is now officially the new generation's Jim Walsh.

Any thoughts? Can you see him and Rebecca Donaldson (aka Lori Loughlin) as a married couple? Weigh in below.

I'm unsure, although he does have the soapy past thanks to his stint on Melrose Place all those years back.

With Rob, Lori and Jennie in the cast, I'll definately be tuning in.

Very appropriate soapy casting!

Are you happy about it Korbi?

i'm not sure. he sort of seems too pretty to be these kids' dad/cool teacher, principal. i like him, but i guess i was hoping for someone more dad-like. can't get James Eckhouse outta my mind... not that James Eckhouse would be a good pairing for Lori Loughlin, but you know what I mean :)

An excellent point my friend...and now of course my brain is racked with trying to think of appropriate actors...Enrico Colantoni just doesn't seem right but he's the only person I can think of!

Then again, beautiful 30-something parents worked with beautiful 20-something kids on The O.C. so it might work at West Beverly...plus you so know that he is going to have an affair with our Kelly Taylor around episode 6!

I've liked Ron ever since Silk Stalkings. I can't wait for this show now!

THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BEST SHOW EVER...AT THE RATE THEY ARE GOING, IT WILL BE, LEGEN...(WAIT FOR IT)...............DARY!!!!

(now, I just pray they don't make any bad writing/casting decisions)

the casting if estes who is a nice tv star is confusing. it really means that the series will concentrate way too much on adult characters who have no BT, 90210 history at the expense of adult characters like Kelly Taylor and anyone else they can bring in. there will be no story for the characters people care about. also the original always saw things including adults from the teens perspective. the adults were the B story if teven that. this new casting though having name recognition does not bode well for the success of this "spin off."

Dude, am I the only one noticing that this creates a conflict in the 90210 universe?? Melrose was a spinoff of BH90210, as is this new 90210 (it includes characters from the previous show) so therefore Estes will have played 2 different people essentially in the same world. Irritating!!

Ducky | May 18, 2008 9:46:31 AM | #

yo, that's a really good point, Ducky. that stuff does bother me.

PantherFan | May 18, 2008 2:18:02 PM | #

I am so excited that 90210 is coming back. I grew up watching that show. In my house when it was on NO ONE was to botherme. I still catch the reruns on t.v
I think casting Rob is a great move. I remember him from silk stockings. I just wonder if Jason Priestly aka Brando Walsh will be cast? That would definatly bring in alot of the old viewers I think. How are they gonna catch us up on the old characters. I think that would be a big deal to get some of us loyal old viewers. I will be watching but I hope they some how tie up loose ends by some how letting us in on what happend to the original gang...
