'October Road' Will Live To See Another Day

Bryangreenberg_octoberroad_s2_240_2 "October Road has been such a labor of love for everybody involved and whether it's the best show in the world or the worst show in the world, it's something everybody involved feels intimate with. One thing we won't do is let this journey, however long it lasts, end without resolution. ABC can cancel us, but they can't stop us from telling the story to the fans."

These are the words of October Road executive producer Josh Appelbaum, who was cool enough to take time out of his very busy day and chat with me on the fate of his beloved show. With ABC Upfronts on tap for next week, Appelbaum still hasn't officially heard whether or not O Road will return, but in the case that no news is bad news, he's prepared a contingency plan that the cast has already signed on for. "We're dying for [October Road] to come back, but we have an interesting, creative idea that would bring the audience resolution, even if the show gets cancelled. And it won't just be going on a website and saying 'X' is the father. It'll actually be something kind of cool that they will hopefully enjoy."

Appelbaum says ABC execs seemed excited about the ideas that he and producing partners Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg pitched for a possible season three. However, the creative has never been their problem with the show. The issue has always been October Road's struggle to pick up a mass audience. Still, the audience they do have has been passionately expressing their desire to bring the show back via various fan movements, like the 'Pay October Road Forward' campaign. "People have been sending [October Road] DVDs to soldiers in Iraq and donating them to local libraries," Appelbaum explained. "The idea is to just keep spreading the word about the show to hopefully get more people to write in to ABC. They've also been sending leaves to the network. There's thousands of them. It's crazy. The fans have been fantastic through this. If we get picked up at this point, it won't be because of the ratings this season, which weren't that great. It's going to be because of the fans."

Korbi - thank you so much for this news!!! I'm praying we see a season 3, but I'm so happy to hear we'll get a resolution even if ABC isn't smart enough to pick it up. (P.S. This is id4_girl, if you remember from your Quickie. Congrats on the new site - I'll definitely be reading! :o)

We are trying so hard to convince ABC to keep October Road on the air...It is awesome to know that the writers and cast are on board to give us resolution no matter what...Let's hope that comes in the form of many more seasons for our beloved show!!! I love October Road and it's so great to hear that regardless of what happens that us Roadies will get some resolution. I'm thinking that no news is good news at this point, since Men in Trees was cancelled last week. That being said, we better get a Season 3!

Korbi,

Thank You so much for this news! I for one am so relieved! I'm still hoping and expecting for a Season Three of Octobter Road. However, if the worst does happen, I'm thrilled we will get a resolution to the so many unanswered questions. The last memory of Eddie and Janet can not be Eddie throwing her out of his hospital room! Thanks again and long live October Road!

Thank you so much - Maybe if they would change the time slot (put it in ugly betty slot) It would be the biggest hit of the season.

Glad to hear that we will get an ending

Just to let all of you fans know, ABC is doing research on reaction to this show. I took an internet survey a few weeks ago that required me to watch an episode (the first episode with Stacy Kiebler in it) and rate it. It went into details about each character and how I liked them and how I enjoyed their relationships to other characters. I got the sense that the survey was written in such a way as to see who might be cut from the cast if they bring it back on a smaller budget. At least there is hope.

As for my answers to the survey, I gave positive answers. I actually don't enjoy this show at all but my wife watches every episode so I answered the survey for her.

Good luck guys!

Korbi, a thousand thank you's from the bottom of my heart for this wonderful, wonderful news! We Roadies have been living on the edge for what has seemed like years waiting for some kind of word on October Road's fate. I'm so glad to hear that our voice is being heard at ABC, too. We fans have come to know and love the cast of OR as though they were family. And while our top wish is obviously for a season three, it is so nice to know that in a worst case scenario that they will all be back to at least give us some resolution to that awesome S2 finale. Thanks again for this update and Long Live the Road!!!

Korbi, you rock!

Korbi what a wondeful article. Yes October Road is a great show and us Roadies are dedicated to see that more people find out about this wonderful show. LOVE IT and hope ABC see's that it would be making a huge mistake if they didn't give us a season 3. I am glad that we have this campaign in place and glad that we are helping soldiers too!! thanks. So nice to read your article. Thanks for keeping us in the loop. The fact that we might get a season 3 and that even if we're canceled we may have some resolution thrills me.

It's also nice to hear Josh, Scott & Andre are not giving up. We're counting on them to convince Steve and the other ABC execs to give us another chance.

We can grow their fan base. They've seen and read what a bunch of college students, housewives, families, grandmas teens, etc. can do when they love a show as much as we LOVE October Road. Heck I'd even watch it on Pay Per View if I had to.

And if ABC would hop on the mktg bandwagon! Do you know how many of us would buy merch from this show? I'd put bumper stickers on my bumper, Drink coffee with O.R. Mugs, sleep in PJs from KR and advertise the show by wearing T-shirts with October Road or Knight's Ridge. There is a lot of potential here and I am sooo glad to hear people who make the decisions are at least listening and our great producers haven't given up and moved on to other projects.

(And if ABC joined us in sending October Road DVDs to soldiers in IRAQ, who knows, this little show might even make the history books! LOL)

Korbi, I couldn't thank you enough for this article. I needed some uplifting and this was it. I am still hoping our efforts with our campaign will get us the season 3, but glad those producers are seeing it in them to not leave us hanging in the event that we don't. Just goes to show the power of the fans! And we keep fighting, because that is what Roadies do!! Thanks for mentioning about the Pay October Road Forward campaign. That is still running and we hope anyone who is reading this and wants to join in, visit the ABC.com boards to find out more. You rock Korbi, thanks again for the article!!

YAYAYAYAYA!!! Our Save-OR campain is actually working. I can't believe how awesome the Roadies have been. For months now we have been kickin butt to help save our beloved show, and I am so happy to hear that even if it doesn't get picked up (which I'm pretty positive it will, because if it doesn't that would be one big slap across the face to all ABC fans) that OR is not gone for good. LONG LIVE THE ROAD!!!

Korbi, I want to thank you for this. It was certainly a pleasant surprise to see linked on the home page. Season 3 or a resolution, there's no other series that has truly represented (as close as possible) my life in New England as "October Road". And I'll gladly and passionately continue to fight to get you guys back on the air. I'm as eager to see a third season, but also like everyone this puts my mind at ease knowing that ABC’s best series won’t be ending open-ended. Kobi, again you have my complete gratitude for this article and to Josh Appelbaum and the rest of the “October Road” crew.

Dear Korbi,THANK YOU for the wonderful, uplifting news that we roadies have been waiting for. This is awesome, and I do agree that even if they don't bring it back, at least they have heard our call for resolution and closure for our gang. AND to abc, please understand the depth and devotion that has been put forth to support this show. I am positive that the ratings/audience for Season3 will be overwhelming! Thanks again to everyone for their continued support and dedication to the long term success of this beautiful, heartwarming show. Long Live October Road!

Thanks so much for the article! October Road is such a great show and deserves to come back for another season.

Thank you so much, I am so happy to have read this tonight. We fans have been working so hard because we love Ocotober Road. It truly is the best show. I am not the type of person who ever campaigned for a show in the past but October Road is very special to me and I want to do my part to make sure we get a Season 3. Snippity Loo friends of mine.
