'Moonlight' Fans To Howl at Warner Brothers Today

By Korbi Ghosh

May 15, 12:18 AM

Alexoloughlin_moonlight_240It is Upfronts week, that dreaded time of year when the networks hand out one of two grades to their current series: pass or fail. In the last few days, several "on the bubble" shows -- How I Met Your Mother, Boston Legal, Eli Stone and Reaper -- have received the okay to continue on, while a few cherished favorites -- Men In Trees, October Road, Aliens In America and Women's Murder Club -- have been shown the door. On Tuesday, CBS' Moonlight was added to the DNR list, and though there were rumors that the CW might pick it up, those hopes were crushed yesterday when the plans for other programming were announced. I'm wondering if, perhaps, CBS should be prepared for a movement resembling the one that assembled after last year's Jericho cancellation...

Because just as thousands of jilted Jericho fans united in solidarity 12 months ago to flood the Eye Net with truckloads of nuts and notes of protest, passionate Moonlight fans have already mobilized, organizing a demonstation outside Warner Brothers (they produce the show), scheduled to begin today (Thursday, May 15th) at noon. The hope is that Warners will be encouraged to shop the show elsewhere.

"We'll be outside the main gate at 4000 Warner Blvd., near Pass street, across from the big parking garage. We'll be wearing Moonlight-related shirts and welcome anyone who wants to come participate," protest organizer and head vampire (as she's been dubbed by followers) Lisa "Leeser" Gerry writes. Oh, and by the way, they will be singing.

Fans across the country who can't make it to L.A. for today's rally are launching their own campaign on moonlight-united.com, asking loyal viewers to blanket Warner Brothers and the CW with postcards, begging them to bring the show back to life.

Last year, Jericho fans were triumphant in winning the ear of the network, which ultimately revived the series for a shortened season. Will Moonlight's eight million viewers have similar luck? Who knows, 8 million is more than double what Gossip Girl garners each week. And besides, this is a world in which NBC saved a drama series that was barely attracting five million followers (my beloved Friday Night Lights) by thinking creatively and partnering with DirecTV. So I suppose anything is possible. Hope springs eternal...

Let it die.

I watched the first couple of episodes of Moonlight but finally let go and went to ABC's Women's murder club. Now they're both gone.

I say that was a big mistake to cancel Close to home last year who had more than 10 Millions viewers each week.

Ghost Whisperer and Close to home we're a force to be recking with on Friday nights.

They thought people wanted to see more supernatural thriller. They we're wrong!!!!!!

Unfortunately I can't be at the gates of WB with Leeser, because I'm stuck over here in the UK, But I'm with her in spirit!

Vampire Solidarity!

While the Jeicho nut-drive worked, the ratings were worse when it came back. The threat won't be as effective and at best, Mick&Co. Will fin refuge at the CW or maybe SciFi. Otherwise, it's time to return to the crypt with ya. Sorry.

Thank you for your continuing support, Korbi. We love our show and are doing everything we can to bring it back. If you can't join the protest today (and even if you cant), please join us at Moonlight United and send in your postcards.

I think CBS probably remembers the Jericho fans only too well. They gave in to them, and the show bombed. It won't be happening again on any network anytime soon.

Moonlight has a huge fan base that will not let the show go so easily. Vampires are the new big thing and I don't understand how CBS could let this show go.

It doesn't make any sense. Moonlight consistently won its time slot, as you say, it got more numbers than several popular still-on-the-air shows, and had more than respectable numbers.
And they're replacing it with what sounds like a perfectly awful date-of-the-week even smaller niche show?
Why?

Keep it up, everyone!

Thanks Korbi for posting this and to our wonderful Leeser for stepping up and organizing the protest. We may not get the show back the way we want, but we will sure get their attention. I'll be with you in spirit fellow Moonlighters. Please also visit http://moonlight-united.com/for details on our postcard campaign and any future plans by the united members of the Moonlight fandom.

Thanks Korbi for all your support we love our vampire and want him back...

MOONLIGHT will live on. Why would ANY network let go of a loyal 8 million fan base that grows in numbers each week. This entire issue is beyond absurd! The ONLY reason Moonlight will not go to another network will be if the dregs at CBS pull some tricks to block it! Can't be in LA today, but I will be Next week!

Deborah T | May 15, 2008 8:28:44 AM | #

I can't be in LA but I am there in spirit. I will howl at whatever power that be needs to hear us until this show is back on the air where it belongs.

The Eye screwed up this time - and no one will ever trust them again.

I wish I could be there too.
Stupid UK is too far away. :(
CBS made a terrible decision to cancel Moonlight, it should have tons of seasons not just 16 episodes.

Natalie E | May 15, 2008 8:53:23 AM | #

Thanks for the coverage Korbi! We have high hopes that other networks will see Moonlight as the gem of a show that it is! We aren't giving up yet!

We love moonlight !!!

Dont let it die

Ms.darkqueen | May 15, 2008 9:07:45 AM | #

Love Moonlight. How you cancel a show that wins its time slot and garners all sorts of fan award...well it's beyond me. 'Moonlight, love you to life!"

Leslie Demus | May 15, 2008 9:09:31 AM | #

Just a little note to tell you what a huge fan of the show moonlight I am. I really believe that it should live on wherever it can. I know that I will follow it anywhere it goes. This show and the wonderful cast and writers have created something so entertaining and addicting. I am ALWAYS left wanting more when I watch it. sitting down to watch it . I just can't wait to see what is happening. I am a wife, mother and nurse with a very busy schedule, yet this show has me hooked. Watching Moonlight is my time. Please don't let it just go away. It has a larger viewership than most other shows out there, why waste it.

Jozac | May 15, 2008 9:19:25 AM | #

We have to get Moonlight back,It wasn't cancelled because of the rating's it was cancelled because CBS and WB couldn't agree on anything about the show, all ratings are down on every show and Moonlight came back after the strike right where they were before the strike,That say's something.I am very sure that if the CW would have picked it up they would have gained a ratings giant for their network,

Tammy | May 15, 2008 9:27:05 AM | #

Moonlight cannot die! It is the best show on TV in a vast wasteland of drivel. If there is any justice, anothe forwardthinking network will pick it up and run with it!

Joanne | May 15, 2008 9:47:31 AM | #

Thanks for the PRing of our protest! We want our Moonlight to stay!!

Hazy | May 15, 2008 9:49:18 AM | #

I am hoping that someone will pick up Moonlight as this is the best show I've seen in a long time.
CBS citing ratings as the reason for dropping it is crap. The show maintained it's ratings after the strike. It seems no other show CBS has can say that.

Jo | May 15, 2008 9:51:27 AM | #

Moonlight is a magical show. It has 8 million fans who will follow the show to wherever it gets picked up. Please SAVE MOONLIGHT!!
