Tomwelling_smallville_240_005Along with the news that original cast members Kristin Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum decided not to renew their Smallville contracts for next season, came word of two new characters -- both villains -- who will join the series this September when the show returns for an eighth year. Doomsday, we were told, will be Clark's ultimate challenge, as he's known in the DC Comics universe to be the only character to have killed Superman. And the second fresh nemesis will present Mr. Kent with other problems, seeing as she is intelligent, manipulative and they'll have a mutual attraction. No additional information was provided, but a bit of fresh intel has just landed in my hot little hands...

I'm told the female villain will be named Tess. In her late-20s, smokin' hot and incredibly strong, Tess will take aggressive control of Lex's estate in his absence. While she's perfectly capable of making her own decisions, she will always differ to Lex's wishes, as she's completely devoted to him. She could prove to be his greatest asset, as she possesses numerous talents, including a power of persuasion that even Clark can't resist. Still, she knows something isn't right, as she can't recall any of her life before meeting Lex, which leads me to believe that he's got her under some sort of spell.

And the new dude they're calling Doomsday? I'm hearing he'll go by the name of Davis Bloome. A good-looking 20-something, he'll tend bar at a trendy Metropolis club, and be popular with the ladies. Though seemingly easy-going and well-adjusted, he will battle a deep sense of insecurity and loneliness that leads to an unmistakably evil, dark side.

Sounds kind of awesome, no? Maybe a season minus Lex and Lana won't be as awful as we originally thought. What do you think? Any casting ideas?

For Doomsday, I'd love to see Jesse Bradford ("Bring It On"/"Swimfan"), Will Estes ("American Dreams"), or Matt Long ("Jack and Bobby") cast in the role.

Smallville without 'Lex' is like Batman without 'The Joker'. The doomsday thing sounds pretty crap but I guess we'll never know until the new season begins. Smallville is full of surprises.

ok not 20 but, Adam Baldwin for Dark Side

DoomsDay would make and is an awesome foe. For Superman! Not for Clark Kent. Lets face it, people just want someone Clark can pound on. Like Titin. If they bring in DoomsDay, why should clark even think about becoming Superman. What will be the point. Some say there's still Darkside and Mongul. And if they bring them in to do battle with Clark, would you still be happy? Or, would you come up with some other excuse. They have already made a joke of the Superman movies

It is time for Clark Kent to move from Smallville and become Superman. Eight years is long enough for him to be a boy and the cast changes make it the perfect time to make the change. Lex will be missed. DoomsDay is a great foe but only if done as in the comics. A good-looking 20-something, he'll tend bar at a trendy Metropolis club, and be popular with the ladies. That is crap.

Move them all to a new series called "Metropolis" and let's see Welling as Superman...although I'd rather see him on the big screen as the Man of Steel.

If they actually make a 8th season without Lex and Lana (and maybe chloe) and with Doomsday and some other chick the WILL totally screw the ending of a really valuable superman show. Its seems that the producers are just interested in the money and have no real respect for the show.

I still cant get over that Lex,Lana and Chloe will be leaving the show. Chloe a maybe but lex and lana wow. It will defenetly impact the show big time. As for the two villans. Iam not liking this idea. If they are going to bring in these two characters its time to progress Clark to become whom he was born to become...Superman. And I do want to say that Tom should really be the man of steel on the big screen. To me hes almost a look a like of our beloved ex-superman, Christopher Reeve. I just hope they dont ruin smallville, it had its few episode bumps but overall I have loved the show from the beggining, dont let it fall from greatness at the end.

I've been ready for the end of Lana for awhile and I can survive without Lex, but they better do whatever they can to hold onto Chloe, especially after losing Lionel. (Would they really get rid of 4 regulars in one season?)

Love Smallville but everyone is right - make him Superman already!!!! Clark is well past coming to grips with his power, his destiny, etc and next season will be more spinning wheels...Why do the producers fear making this switch? I'm much more likely to stay with the show if it evolves, not if it stays the same...

Given what we've seen of the series so far, "Under Lex's spell" is a poor prediction. More likely cloned by Lex as Julian/Grant was and the million Lana clones.

If y'all will pardon my crop-dust for a bit of your time...

In my on-and-off following of sci-fi, Superman and other superheroes on television, in the movies, and in the comics since the early sixties, the dual setting of Smallville and Metropolis keeps this rendition of Superman more interesting than those that have focused on only one main setting amidst the more exotic settings of the various episodes.

Give 21st Century rural life, as well as agribusiness, in America a chance to continue shining after being overshadowed by Metropolis throughout much of the 20th Century when its quasi-New York state-of-mind allure reflected the pre-WWI through post-WWII era when abandoning life in the country for the city was the "modern" thing to do for the sake of "progress" and not being a "square."

Let's consider concepts like having a "meteor freak," or recovering "33.1" victim, who knows Clark's secret (in order to not be alarmed by his sudden comings and goings from Metropolis and other non-typical farm activities) become the caretaker and primary farmhand on the Kent farm while interspersing solar panel array and windmill power generation amidst livestock and bio-fuel crop production.

Of course, this would be more fun if Clark's acquisition of a primary caretaker-farmhand succeeded a notion by Kara to eliminate fossil fuel usage on the Kent farm by manually pulling a 37-foot wide plow - sponsored by John Deere? - to till the soil after using a pair of side-by-side hay wagons to manually drag it back to the farm from a nearby farm implement dealership at night -- or am I just reaching for a super-blond joke?! :)

The future powerplays involved in energy vs. food over corn crop usage alone is enough controversy to allow old characters to transition out while new ones transition in. Without Lex and Lionel manifesting some new fiendish plot in the semi-seclusion of rural America, some new person, persons or entity should maintain the connection between the vast quantities of food-or-fuel crops growing in the sun leading to indifferent, self-serving corporate types getting some sun.

And finally, with all respect to who's-with-who, let's get Superman "off the ground" with sweeping Lois Lane off her feet! So far, this series has been an almost complete waste of Erica Durance's beauty, charm and talent.

WHAT? Are u insane?

Man... | May 9, 2008 6:39:10 PM | #

The new female sounds awesome, but come on...Doomsday is a really bitchin' character, and now they're casting him as a stupid bartender? He isn't human man!, screw this. I love smallville, but really think they are taking a wrong turn with the story. It won't be the same without lex and lana...and maybe even Chloe.

S.V. was at one time a decent show, but it sux badly now. I mean WTF? A 20 something goodlooking Doomsday? get real lol.

fireman | May 10, 2008 7:27:10 AM | #

Jeeezus Christ these clowns are ruining my show. Go to a freaking comic- con and hire some people for some decent ideas. Doomsday - some mysterious chick boy we haven't seen that before. And as for lana goodbye. but Chloe - no way. And give Superboy his nads back so we can remember he is eventually going to be Superman and not wine so freaking much about everytime some gets hurt it all my fault. Tell the writers to quit cut and pasting his lines from one show to another and go back to the first 4 seasons and watch those and try to remember what it made it special. Doomsday - really - OMIGOD!! and not in a goodway. If you are going to open that door then Darkseid would make alot more sense.

tim | May 11, 2008 1:40:41 PM | #

Doomsday is an alien with grey skin and large bony protrusions poking through his skin. He killed Superman in a mutual battle of destruction. How the hell is a 20 y/o bartending human being Doomsday going to make any sense at all? The shark has been jumped if this is true.

What? | May 15, 2008 1:50:19 PM | #

Love Smallville havent missed an episode yet.Have been a superman addict since the 50's
Yes that long. Please make clark into Superman already, get him into Metropolis, show more superpowers.I like the addition of Kara to the series.Doomsday ,No Comment,
Keep the shows coming.

Mariann | May 16, 2008 7:55:24 AM | #

I think it is good to remember that the series is called "Smallville" not "Metropolis" or "Superman," and that Tom Welling is Clark Kent, not Superman. Part of the charm of the series is the fact that it is about the person before he is Superman, and all he goes through to become that ultimate hero.

Carillon | May 16, 2008 10:09:10 AM | #

think its awful without lana&lex but we will see

tilaye | May 27, 2008 1:54:54 AM | #

I think that without Lana this series can run but without Lex Luthor this Show will be Crappy ... since season one Whole story Line is revolving around Clark and Lex and without both of them I don't think I will going to like this Show anymore.

I agrees with all the above People Clark should become Superman now and In previous Season what I found Funny that Clark can't even Learn to fly if he would have he could have saved himself from lot of Problems.
