'Brothers & Sisters' Takes Its Season Two Bow, But Where Will They Go From Here?
If you haven’t yet
seen the season finale of Brothers &
Sisters, I would advise you to stop reading now. But if you’re all caught
up, there are a few things we should discuss, as last night’s hour dropped a bomb
or two that could drastically change the show’s dynamics next season.
We already knew Saul was gay, but now he’s out to the
family: On Friday, I spoke
with Ron Rifkin, who said the decision to make his character gay is a great one.
He feels that Saul got lost in the shuffle at some point during the first
season. The writers were trying to make the character more specific when one of
them introduced the idea of Saul struggling with his sexuality. And though his
complete coming-out will be a gradual process, it will be a major theme of
season three. We won’t see him jumping into bed with Michael Nouri or joining
GayDate, some new internet matchmaking service, right off the bat. However,
producers fully intend to eventually bring love interests into Saul’s life. “We want to
honor [this story] in the right way,” executive producer Monica Breen said to
me. “We’re very aware of how important our show is to the gay community. It’s
important to put these stories out there in a way that’s not “In a very special
episode of Brothers & Sisters.”
We take that responsibility very seriously and want to be true to people’s
experiences.”
Justin’s former sis is now his squeeze: Whether you’re down with the idea of Rebecca not being a
biological Walker
or not, you should know that this is
happening. Last night’s Hollywood Hills kiss is but a preview of things to
come, as the two will be spending quite a bit of time together when the series
returns in September. And because Justin and Rebecca have already established
such a tight rapport, their relationship will be pretty serious from the
beginning.
Rebecca’s out and Ryan’s in? I had heard rumors of this development last week,
but wanted to stay unspoiled, so I refused to take it seriously until I knew it
was real. At this time, producers have a pretty clear idea of who they’d like
to see playing the role of this possible new Walker spawn, but final
decisions have not been made. And since the first couple episodes of season three
have already gone into production, we know that we won’t meet Ryan right away
this Fall. However, when introductions are
made, I hope to see an actor who’s cute like Justin and sarcastically funny
like Kevin. Any casting suggestions?
Adam Brody
Mia | May 12, 2008 9:57:33 AM | #HA HA! Adam Brody would be PERFECT.
Frank | May 12, 2008 10:17:13 AM | #Eddie Cibrian ... if he was a little younger.
Tracey | May 12, 2008 10:45:12 AM | #I personally WOULD LOOOOOOVE and DIE to see either Will Estes or Sean Faris embody Ryan.
I assume Ryan would be someone who's out there to DESTROY Justin and Rebecca.
If so, Sean Faris FITS the role a lot after seeing NEVER BACK DOWN.
Sean Faris is also not a long shot for ABC having considered him for a role in PRIVATE PRACTICE and being in an ABC show LIFE ON A STICK before.
I call for a reunion with Dave's REUNION co stars.
Adam Brody would destroy the show. He should join one tree hill or something, but not Brothers.
James | May 12, 2008 10:49:55 AM | #Jason Dohring
B- | May 12, 2008 10:59:24 AM | #benjamin mckenzie? lol "ryan" XD
jc | May 12, 2008 11:14:50 AM | #Zac Efron
Patrick | May 12, 2008 11:33:45 AM | #Cancel Private Practice and bring on Piz from Veronica Mars!
Melissa | May 12, 2008 11:34:38 AM | #Sean Faris or Jason Dohring. They both physically fit in with the family, which, to me, is important. They can both play about that age range and they are both tremendously talented actors.
I think this new sibiling should be a little more brooding and dark. I mean, not everyone would be as happy as Rebecca to have some new family forced themselves on them. This is likely a guy who grew up without a father or maybe he knew who his father was and is some what offended William never wanted anything to do with him. He lost his mother a few years ago and possibly has no interest in gaining this new delusional family.
I think Will Estes is a great suggestion! But I will take Jason Dohring in any capacity, so I would be perfectly happy with that too! But ((and I haven't ready ANY spoilers or info on it, so forgive the ignorance) but are we SURE Ryan is a guy?? Because it would be a really interesting story line to bring in another sister and then see how the siblings react differently to her than they did to Rebecca and whether that bothers Rebecca. For instance, maybe Kitty would be more open to this new sister for some reason than she was to Rebecca.... Just a thought. But, it's probably a brother anyway.
um..zac efron? are u effin kiddin me? first he looks nothin like the family, second, he pisses me off like no other...so...no...
but adam brody would actually be a good fit..
will | May 12, 2008 1:12:24 PM | #I guess Adam Brody would be a good fit since he and Dave Annable completely remind me of each other. But still, I like Annable and can live without Brody.
Michelle | May 12, 2008 1:28:51 PM | #AndreaC--great thought about Ryan being a girl....I think Old Man Walker just called the baby in the picture "...her youngest"?
CJ | May 12, 2008 1:33:13 PM | #What about Gregory Smith? Then he and Emily Van Camp (Rebecca) would be reunited on another series. I still miss Everwood.
Sue | May 12, 2008 1:38:52 PM | #Jason Dohring or Matt Long or Chad Faust
pointoforder | May 12, 2008 2:14:03 PM | #I would be down with Adam Brody ... he is cute like Justin and sarcastically funny like Kevin. I think he could be a Walker.
Tiffany | May 12, 2008 2:18:35 PM | #I thought Ryan could be a girl at first, too, but didn't William say "how's he doing"?
Tracey | May 12, 2008 2:35:39 PM | #Korbi I am so happy to find you. I hope you are planning to do something similar to the Korbi Quicky I miss it and don't know what to watch anymore
Erin | May 12, 2008 3:04:23 PM | #My first thought was "wouldn't it be great if Berlanti roped in Gregory Smith??". But, I think it would be a quite odd to see both Emily and Gregory side by side and NOT as Amy and Ephram.
I'm all for Jason Dohring though! Now, THAT would be interesting.

Hannah | May 12, 2008 3:46:54 PM | #Will Estes
Matt Long
or Sean Faris FTW
If Ryan is the gangsta type, Will and Matt are out of the running already.
James | May 12, 2008 7:30:00 PM | #Gregory Smith is just perfect. Nobody can play a rebellious son better than him.
William | May 12, 2008 10:27:46 PM | #Jason Dohring is on Moonlight... and too old. Ryan would have to be in the neighborhood of Rebecca's age.
Zakry | May 13, 2008 3:43:24 AM | #How about Ryan Sypek (from Wildfire) as Ryan? Hey! The name even works! I'd really like to see him in something else now that Wildfire is ending.
AndreaC | May 13, 2008 7:57:02 AM | #Gregory Smith. That would be so cool.
