We've Got 'Bones' Intel: Gormagon, The Grave Digger & a 'House' Crossover
Good help is hard to find, but I have been blessed, people. My trusted, television-obsessed intern, Marisa Roffman, has many a TV-related talent and being a Bones expert is one of them. This morning, she jumped on a call with executive producer Hart Hanson who said that Monday's season finale will finally answer some of the mysteries that've tortured fans for quite some time. The identity of serial killer, Gormagon, will be addressed. The Grave Digger's storyline, though, may have to wait just a bit longer. And remember our old friend Goodman who up and disappeared after season one? We'll eventually find out what all that was about too.
I'm going to step aside for now and let Ms. Roffman fill you in on all the details...
Marisa Roffman: Thanks, Korbi! Yes, the Gormagon arc is ending on Monday, though the writers did actually consider extending it into next year. The road to crafting this season-long story wasn’t exactly the smoothest, since the WGA strike and subsequent loss of episodes forced them to scrap a few twists and turns in order to condense the plot. “Being as we’re very episodic we [ultimately] decided it behooved us to wrap it up and not carry it on to another season,” Hanson shared. (Fun fact: Gormagon wasn’t originally intended to be a cannibal. According to Hart, they had the teeth marks in the skull in the third season premiere just to provide a good tease for the episode, but then it stuck!)
The Grave Digger storyline, however, was a casuality of the strike that couldn't be avoided. “We only had so many episodes to do before the end of the season and we knew we had to choose between the Grave Digger and Gormagon to pay off," Hanson explained. "[Gormagon]’s a very complicated back story, so to come back next year and reset that, we felt like our loyal viewers would get bored and for the new viewers, it would be like a tutorial.” The resolution? We're going to see the return of the Grave Digger in season four. (Let’s hope this time he stays away from Brennan and Hodgins!)
For the fans that still desperately miss Goodman, I’ve got good news and bad news. The bad news is that we’re not going to get Goodman back to the lab anytime soon. Hart says that he felt they couldn’t service the character properly, hence the addition of Cam. The good news? He loves Jonathon Adams as much as the fans do, saying he's “one of my favorite actors that I’ve ever worked with.” He is currently hatching a plan that could bring Goodman back for one episode, permitting Adams is available to shoot. That episode would potentially take place in an alternate reality where we would see some of the characters like Booth and Brennan leading lives the fans would like. Like married with children, maybe. If it’s anything like the recent episode where Booth and Brennan took care of the baby, I’m game.
Other little scooplets:
• Sweets will be coming back next season (provided he isn’t Gormagon). Eric Millegan’s Zack is more of a question mark. However, Hart promises that we haven’t seen the last of him. Still, I’m worried for our little Zacaroni.
• The shot-on-location season four premiere is going ahead as planned and it will be a two-hour episode with Booth and Brennan working their magic in London.
• Booth’s family was supposed to be brought in this season, but the strike limited what they could do. They’re hoping to show more of Booth and Brennan’s families next season.
• Hart doesn’t want the show to move to Friday any more than its fans do: “I hope [the Fox Winter 2009 schedule] is another Bones is moving to Friday joke. I’m cranky about it on a whole bunch of levels. We are a very good pairing with House, so to be split up from them bugs me. I can see what the network is doing. I see their reasoning. I just don’t like it.”
• Hart would love to do a crossover with House. He and House creator David Shore are friends and he says they've talked about crossing over their shows and bringing Stephen Fry (Dr. Gordon Wyatt) along for the ride. Booth, Brennan, House and Gordon Gordon all in one scene together? Pure magic!
• Dream guest star for season four? Miss Britney Spears, herself. Well, not really, but Hart jokes that after the magic she worked on How I Met Your Mother’s ratings, she might be just what Bones needs -- though he's proud to share that Bones is one of the only shows to actually gain viewers post-strike: “Our audience is following us. It’s gratifying."
Are you looking forward to the Bones finale and the conclusion of the Gormagon storyline? Sound off.
Great article! So glad to see Bones coverage! Love the tidbits, can't wait for Monday and next seasons! Korbi, your intern rocks!
HelloNurse | May 16, 2008 7:31:42 PM | #Can't wait for Monday!! Thanks for the scoop- I can't get enough Bones these days--how completely awesome would a House/Bones crossover be?!?!
lkate07 | May 16, 2008 7:42:45 PM | #Great stuff! I LOVE Bones! My hubby & I are addicted to it and the post-strike eps are getting better and better. I think Bones & Booth have the best chemistry I've ever seen (including Mer/Der from Grey's, and that's saying a lot!). We love House, too, so the thought of a crossover makes me all giddy. LOL
Jenny | May 16, 2008 8:40:03 PM | #Great article! I always love to read things about my favorite show! Not so sure about that alternate universe episode. That would be...weird. YAY to Bones for gaining viewers! That's great!
Stephanie | May 16, 2008 10:39:40 PM | #Great article and great intern! Love the Bones scoop, thanks!

Mo | May 17, 2008 3:29:33 AM | #Bones is so good! I usually can't stand any procedural shows,ie CSI, Numbers, etc. But Bones has me sucked in. Theyre all so charming. I hope the strike didnt break their desire to extend plots for a few episodes. The Gormagon plot was going good until the strike chopped it up (puns are great).
boze | May 17, 2008 8:55:15 AM | #There wuz a Zap2it story about the House/Bones cross last week.

Janis | May 19, 2008 5:26:06 AM | #Great article - enjoyed it more than the headliner on the home page today. Thanks for the info!
Bones Fan | May 19, 2008 6:04:42 AM | #I truly believe that one of the reasons that House and Bones have been so successful is that Fox, for the most part, has kept politics out of the show. Of course, the great scripts and actor chemistry don't hurt either!!
Mike H | May 19, 2008 7:37:51 AM | #i was thinking about this last week, if one of the cast member is gormogon, i'd prefer it to be zach. i really like the character, but he's the one i'm least attached to. i think sweets provides a really interesting way for booth and brennan to interact that we wouldn't see under their usual circumstances.
carrie | May 19, 2008 10:02:16 AM | #I really hope they bring Jonathan Adams back, Goodman was such a warm character. And a wonderful nuanced portrayal of an African American family man. My favourite eps with him was the time the cast was trapped at the Jeffersonian over Xmas and they got to learn more about each other.
He was a great boss/father (and he's hot!) figure to the squints too. The time he reassured Angela that he was useful and Zack said "Apparently Angela just needed to hear she was of some use in a deep African American voice" still cracks me up.
there won't be any kind of show if booth died last week. did anybody see the trailer for the last show? they are going to booth's furnal!!!!!!
bill | May 19, 2008 12:25:24 PM | #This is the greatest Bones article I've ever read, written by the greatest intern even!:)
This is all great scoop. Can't WAIT for tonight!
Kate | May 19, 2008 1:57:32 PM | #I really don't want it to go to Friday (TV's night of death for a show's ratings)... unless it means not taking 3 months off because of American Idol...then I might be ok with it. Awesome finale episode by the way!
3man | May 19, 2008 9:55:36 PM | #3man, they've threatened to move the show to Friday every year. I seriously doubt they'll go through with it (or maybe that's just me in denial ;-)). It was a fantastic finale, wasn't it? I'm still reeling, almost four hours later...
Marisa | May 19, 2008 11:50:38 PM | #I LOVE Bones! It is my favorite show since Alias!
I have been looking for a show I enjoy as much as I did Alias and I have found it!
The chemistery between Brennan and Booth is Awesome!
I am slready having withdrawls, can't wait until season 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so with you about Bones and Alias, Die Hard! But I'm really starting to think that I know I watch too much TV when I start to wonder how Brennan would react to House. Would she think he was correct for always thinking about the case, or horrid for not seeing the patient? She is uber-rational and clinical, but she also feels she "sees the victim" though their bones. Ahhh I'm thinking too much about this!!
Sarah | May 20, 2008 10:48:08 AM | #That intern can write, digest, understand and explain what's going on! Show her off, who is she, we need to know.....I heard she was a big fan of the X-Files. Hum!
