Wow, Lily and Marshall decided to buy an apartment tonight on How I Met Your Mother. It seems to me that the time has come for the two of them to take that step. I love the dynamic of them in the same place as Ted (it provides a good base of operations for the show), but the married couple living with a single guy thing is something that I just don't believe as true to life.

How does Harold (John Cho) of Harold and Kumar go to White Castle fame show up on How I Met Your Mother and not get to spend time with Neil Patrick Harris of Harold and Kumar go to White Castle cameo fame?

Watching How I met Your Mother week after week I have to wonder where they come up with the insanity (by which I mean "funny"). For instance, right off the bat tonight, Barney goes into the Vicky Mendoza Line." To summarize, picture an XY coordinate plane with "crazy" on the x-axis and "hot" on the y-axis. Draw a line originating at (0,0) with a slope equal to 1. The result is the "Vicky Mendoza Line," any girl that lies above that line is hot enough that the crazy does not matter. Any girl that lies below the line is too crazy and the hot becomes irrelevant. Ah, the "Vicky Mendoza Line," I think we all know girls that straddle the line.

Oh Barney, how I miss you Tuesday through Sunday. You're the only guy I know that would suggest to anyone a Picking up Girls Olympiad with 26 events over the course of 11 weeks in a neutral city with a panel of international judges. Frankly, that makes you awesome. Not quite as awesome as little Barney in Ted's imagination climbing all over Mount Stacey and completely freaking Ted out, but there is little more awesome than little Barney in Ted's imagination climbing all over Mount Stacey.

Turning on CBS tonight I was desperately in need of more than a little funny. The Yankees were on some other channel, in the process of finishing off their disappointing season with a complete inability to bring home runners that got on base. Of course, their pitching staff was something of a disappointment as well, and now they were virtually done.

Tonight, I’d like to pretend just for a moment, come with me dear reader, that I am Ted Mosby. I am an architect, I am a friend, and, one day, God willing, I will meet a nice young lady under a yellow umbrella. I will marry said nice young lady under a yellow umbrella and we will have no fewer than two children. I fully intend to relate to these children the story of how I met their mother, but plan on drawing it out for an incredibly long period of time. I am, I must tell you, a huge fan of shaggy dog stories.

To start off the new How I Met Your Mother season, Bob Saget returns as the old Ted, telling his kids that this season is going to be all about how he became who he had to become in order to meet their mother. Cut to the present and what we have all been waiting for “…dary. Legendary!” And Barney is back!
