Tuesday's Damages finale walked a line between wrapping up the season's central mysteries and setting up a potential second season. Well, it didn't so much walk the line as paint it across the episode about two-thirds of the way through.

You have to hand the creators of Damages this: They are not being stingy with the resolution. A week before the season finale, two big questions have been answered, and in a perfectly logical way.

Damages confusion update: One week closer to the finale, I'm still no closer to understanding who killed David and who attacked Ellen, and why.

So, one episode closer to the season finale of Damages (that's coming in three weeks, if you're marking your calendars), we're not really any closer to knowing who the hell did what to whom.

I've been OK thus far with how Damages has jumped back and forth in time; the end-of-the-timeline scenes with Ellen in jail have served as a good reminder of how far she's had to stray off the path in working for Patty Hewes.
