Bones Finale: What the hell was that?

Remember when some Obama press conferences threatened to bump this episode of "Bones" to next year, and fans raised a stink to make sure we got to see it? Perhaps our president was just looking out for us...

Davidboreanaz_bones_s3_240 Yeah, yeah, we had a nasty bendy corpse in a barrel of wine, but who cares -- this is the episode of "Bones" where Brennan asks Booth to be her baby daddy! Plus, a whole lot that has been going on starts to make sense, and the last scenes are absolutely fantastic. Well done, Bones! More »

Emilydeschanel_bones_s3_240 Tonight Bones stuck to the formula that keeps me addicted, with a quirky mystery (presence of college mascot = quirky), plenty of quippage, and just the right amount of deeper personal material to keep it from feeling like junk food TV. Plus, of course, a priceless Booth/Brennan scene at the end.

Davidboreanaz_bones_s4_240 "Bones" put a lot more thought into Japanese subcultures than the actual crime this week. I can forgive that when there are decent character moments. On that score, we got some sweet Booth/Brennan interaction, one relatively rounded guest character, one featureless guest caricature, and a whole lot of nothing for the lab rats to do. More »

Tjthyne_bones_s4_240 After last Thursday's amazing episode, just about anything they did would seem slight. Instead of fighting it, "Bones" embraced the fluff with the obligatory wacky funeral episode. After all, what could be funnier than body snatching and murder plots? More »

Stephenfry Oh, "Bones" -- when you're good, you're so very, very good. The team delves into a death-metal murder, and ends up unearthing enough of their own childhood trauma to fuel a hundred howling rantsongs. It's all with the help of the fabulous Stephen Fry, who returns as Gordon Wyatt and leads our heroes to some inner truth and homemade family. Rock on!

Johnfrancisdaley_bones_s4_240 "Bones" encounters a woman who has been planning her perfect wedding her whole life. This gives Brennan the opportunity to talk about pointless, antiquated rituals, which prompts Booth to defend love and marriage, which causes random passers-by to shout "Just get a room, already!" Or maybe that's just me. More »

Tjthyne_bones_s4_240 Hey, "Bones!" See that blue-lit pressure chamber over there? See how it's all shiny and enticing? You want to go in it, don't you? Well, don't! Have you learned nothing from Watchmen, or, say, every other sci-fi flick involving sealable rooms ever made? I mean, really, folks -- that's almost as dumb as pissing off a founding member of ZZ Top! More »

Tamarataylor_bones_s3_240 We've got another poker-winnings episode this week on "Bones." Tamara Taylor must have won big against the writers, so they gave her the starring role in a tale of a dead ex-fiancĂ©, a painful past, and a child she left behind. More »

Tamarataylor_bones_s4_240 "Bones" slips into very Special Episode territory with this tale of teen pregnancy, a poor man's Paulie Bleeker, and a gruesome corpse. Plus, NotZack  teaches us a valuable lesson about religious tolerance, and Angela's Gotta Have It. More »
