'Vampire Diaries': Damon the Lone Ranger and Elena's blood save Stefan

On "Vampire Diaries," Stefan turns into what he feared most and Mystic Falls finally gets its answer to Vicki's disappearance. 

Since there were several reveals in "Let the Right One In," follow the highlights as they happened in the episode: 

8:01 p.m. Jeremy asks Anna for help in turning him. A scene that set the tone for the episode, it prompted Jeremy to embark on his quest to answer Anna's question as to why he wants to be turned into a vampire so desperately. While he may have firsthand experience with vampires (Vicki), his knowledge of the species is quite bare. Plus, you can't really trust Netflix as a reference.

8:04 p.m. It all comes back to Katherine. Damon lets Stefan and Elena in on his little team-up with Pearl (guest star Kelly Hu), and of course, she's going to bring him to his true love Katherine. How many times have we heard this song and dance?

8:08 p.m. Stefan goes squirrel hunting. A boy's gotta eat so Stefan heads out to the woods for some innocent animals to fulfill his hunger, but instead, he's treated to the mighty Frederick (guest star Stephen Martines) and his minions. Worried about his little brother's whereabouts, Damon goes straight to Pearl's house, but can't enter because he hasn't been invited in. Poor Stefan; he's going to get a pounding tonight all thanks Katherine's fascination with the Salvatore brothers.

8:12 p.m. Elena and Damon team up. After Frederick tells Damon the bad news about Stefan's fate, Elena and Damon resort to Plan B just as the storm is about to start. Elena's understandably worried about her boyfriend and Damon's beginning to take charge of his role as big brother, but it's not exactly the easiest mission to accomplish. First, how can they get in?

8:14 p.m. Stefan's torture begins. With vervain on the ropes and a vengeful vampire leading the pack in making sure Stefan's life is a living hell, Stefan doesn't have many things going his way. Frederick wants to avenge the death of his Beth Anne, who died at the hands of the Salvatores, and he makes pretty damn clear that there's nothing stopping him, even tying up fellow vampire Harper, who tries to defend Stefan's honor.

8:17 p.m. Anna gives four reasons to be turned: 1) needing someone to do the dirty work, 2) revenge, 3) boredom and 4) to love someone so much to want to spend eternity with them.

8:18 p.m. First Tyler Lockwood sighting in a long time!

8:20 p.m. Damon protects Elena. After recruiting dear old Alaric with the Save Stefan mission, Damon stops Elena from offering her help. It's one the rare moments between the two where Damon has no ulterior motive or is circumventing the truth, and you can tell that he actually has Elena's best interests at heart. If you were Team Stefan before, this episode might be steering you to Team Damon before night's end.

8:27 p.m. Alaric is invited into Pearl's house after pretending to be a stranded passerby, but one of Frederick's minions Billy doesn't buy Alaric's schtick and goes after him - unsuccessfully of course. After Miss Gibbons fails to invite Damon in, he breaks her neck and enters the house. Hey, when things don't go according to plan, you gotta improvise. Easy as pie.

8:30 p.m. Elena strays from the plan, and heads straight for the dungeon-like cellar where Stefan's being held captive. "Are you insane?!," Damon asks Elena after he offs a vampire keeping guard outside the room. Seriously!

8:35 p.m. Caroline discovers a body. After her car shuts down, she has the bright idea to (in the middle of the storm) see if she can get cell phone reception in the woodsy area. (Damn technology.) She slips, of course, and grabs onto what she thinks is a branch but it's a hand! Ahhhh!

8:36 p.m. Pearl gives Anna an ultimatum. She wants Anna to stop hanging out with Jeremy, because he and his family is the reason she was stuck in the damn tomb for all those years. It's too bad because Jeremy already knows who Anna is! Score for teenage rebellion.

8:37 p.m. Stefan's safe, for now. But being hungry for so long, must be hard to resist Elena's blood, eh? What seems like seconds later, Frederick stakes Stefan, but Elena offs Frederick! The girl has impeccable timing. But we can't celebrate just yet; is Stefan dead? We know the answer to that but doesn't hurt to ask, doesn't it?

8:45 p.m. Damon and Alaric make a mad duo, killing all the vampires in the house, but just as they think they're safe, three more vamps show up. "How many more vervain darts do you have left?," Damon asks. "One," Alaric replies. "Not going to be enough," Damon answers dryly.

8:46 p.m. Matt's mom cooks? Kelly (guest star Melinda Clarke) reassures her son that she's here to stay. We've all heard that one before. Caroline and her mom Sheriff Forbes pay a visit to the Donovan household. The body that Caroline accidentally discovered? It's Vicki. (What?!)

8:48 p.m. Elena saves Stefan with her blood. Oh boy. As expected, Stefan turns into an animal. Elena, what did you start?

8:53 p.m. Not all change can be good. After seeing how quickly Stefan can turn on a dime, it might be a little more difficult for Elena to be so quick to side with him. "You're like this other person. And it's my fault, I made you," Elena says.

8:57 p.m. Jeremy has his answer for turning. "[Vicki] was the reason you wanted to turn," Anna says. "You wanted to be with her." Poor Anna.
