'Smallville': The battle lines have been drawn
Justin Hartley is credited as a writer of this "Smallville" episode... his character suffers a far worse fate.Betcha didn't know Watchtower had such fantastic security that locks down when an intruder is detected. Tess didn't, and her infiltration very nearly cost her and Chloe's lives.
Yeah, she just wanted the leg-up on the competition, so thanks to Oliver's inability to keep a secret, she went diving into the computer banks of Watchtower. It takes near asphyxiation before Chloe realizes the front door can be frozen, then shattered to allow for escape. However, this means the complete destruction of ALL the info stored in the system because they're using a tank powering the system keeping the mainframes cool. At least they're home free, right?
Not so fast, because Amanda Waller planted a tracking device IN Tess and sent Stuart Campbell after her former boss. Our newfound White Knight initially loses track of Tess when Watchtower locks down, then is able to follow the girls to the hospital (now against Amanda's orders), but loses them in the shuffle. Chloe hides Tess in a body bag, but only because the one way to disable the tracking device was to "kill" her. Sadly, Chloe's conscience gets the best of her, and drives a huge atropine needle into Tess, reviving her and allowing for the distrust to resume.
On the other side of town, Clark enlists Oliver in his attempt to locate Zod. He initially finds the mortal Kandorians bonding and preserving their history, but deep down they just want Zod's forgiveness. Clark gets Faora alone and determines that she is with child... Zod's child. Meanwhile, Green Arrow finds himself at Castle Luthor, but only after Zod completed his dirty work. They think they have each other, what with Zod smacking Oliver into next week, but not before he gets a Kryptonite arrow in his leg. Shaken up, Oliver thinks he has Zod under control, but when your driving focus is to retrieve the Book of Rao and gain the ultimate power, nothing will stop you. Oliver pays for this with quite the nasty "Z" burned into his chest.
With his declaration of war on Checkmate, Amanda Waller tries to nip Zod in the bud, but he tosses her aside like a chewtoy in his attempt to dole out his brand of justice on Faora for betraying her own kind. What he doesn't realize (until it's too late) is that he also killed his spawn when he took her out. He proceeds to roast and toast the Checkmate home base and burn everybody (including Amanda, presumably) as retribution. Clark saves the mortal Kandorians from the remaining Checkmate agents, but when he discovers Zod gave powers to the rest of them for their loyalty, he realizes that the world may very well end at the hands of the newly promoted General Zod. Kneel, indeed.
Oh, and Mama Kent returns next week.

This was an excellent episode..
Smallville just being what it is, the greatest series our mankind has ever seen.
Another crappy Chloe centric episode.
My god is smallville good tv. I mean what tv show in it's ninth season is this good. Marth is coming back next week and I can't wait.
Ur right Scott. Not many shows if any r this good in a 9th season. This episode had a good intro and was full of action all throughout and is setting up a great season finale starting with next week! I hope the next 2 episodes are kick ***! Smallville just keeps getting better and this season is arguably the best one!.... I said arguably! The episodes set up the story line and if you know the mythos and comics AND cartoons you know what im talking about! Yes theyve changed some things and adapted some others butSmallville is damn good! This show is the second best live action interpretation of ANY comic book besides THE DARK KNIGHT! Yes i said it! AND even though Erica Durance wasnt in this episode... She is THE BEST Lois Lane live interpretation!
The show was excellent....Justin did a great job co writing it....=)The Chlollie was heartbreaking..
Such a great episode! Season 9 has been excellent!
For me bit of a meh episode. It was fine and I liked seeing Chloe and Tess working together, but the Kadorians just bore me. The Checkmate guy looked like a cut price HRG from Heroes and the story just didn't particularly excite me. Roll on Martha Kent!
i would say that im a smallville fanatic ..i dont even missed 1 episode and now on its 9th season im still excited for the twist and turn of smallville...oh Martha dear mama...so excited to see you...
I really hated this episode. Truly wish I hadn't bothered to watch. I'm done with Smallville as of now. Simply not interested in watching any more of Clark's character assasination at the expense of Chloe's glorification. Even the once enjoyable Clark/Lois romantic build up has become a joke. The forced stalling was becoming laughable with each episode, and now there's the added bonus of the 'iconic' love-triangle to further delay the relationship. Smallville should be renamed Angstville. And the current showrunners should be replaced. They obviously don't think much of Superman.
Enjoyed much of the episode. Liked the Tess/Chloe snarkfest. Good character stuff.
I truely wish more had been done to show Clark "bonding" with the Kandorians or at least showing Zod and Faora's relationship, then perhaps I would care that she and the newly announced spawn of Zod got murdered and then maybe I wouldn't snort with laughter when Clark whines about all the hard work he has put into the Kandorian peace project. I seem to remember him lying to Zod, threatening Zod and all the Kandorians with extiction (if he messes with Lois), handing out ID's that Chloe made, and beyond that, pretty much ignoring them.
Their your family? Really? Do they know it? Is this the kind of family that never actually spends any time together?
That lack of connection left the episode weak, but if you didn't get bogged down with how badly Clark played out Operation Hug Zod, then this was a pretty good episode. Good acting, some action, lots of things happening, consequences sticking, life and death choices, Chloe actually turning down free coffee!!! (What has the world come to!!)
Next week will likely stumble with some odd almalgam of goofy (That Lois, she's soooo wacky!) and sinister with hints of the Red Queen. But the final looks interesting.
