'FlashForward': Demetri tries to file an extension

joseph-fiennes-john-cho-flashforward-320.jpgMarch 15 is rapidly approaching on "FlashForward," and that means we'll soon be getting our answer as to whether Demetri ought to have had a flash or not. For a minute I actually thought they might reveal the answer this week. They didn't, but we did get a pretty good cliffhanger ending and it does seem like we'll have an answer next week.

Everything started off this time out with Mark questioning Marcie, and one of the first things she talked about was her flashforward (she was in jail in it). It seems as though no one had ever bothered to ask her what it was she saw. Now, I don't want to start another recap by talking about things that don't make sense on this show, but do you honestly believe that with everyone in the office talking about their flash and what they saw no one ever -- ever -- asked Marcie what she saw? They were all there on their coffee break -- Demetri said he had no flash, Janis talked about the OB, Mark about the masked gunmen, and no one bothered with Marcie? If that's the case, they really are bad investigators and horrible friends. It's good that the bigwigs came in to take Marcie away from them.

Far more believable (and a storyline I quite liked) was the search for Mark's gun. It had apparently been used to kill a homeless man the night before. Mark and Demetri ended up following a lead on a car seen driving away from the shooting to a crazy guy who was holding a salesgirl hostage. Why a salesgirl? Because salespeople sell cell phones and cell phones caused the flash (as the crazy guy explained it -- no one blacked out before they had a cell, did they?). Gotta love the logic. Also, gotta love the fact that the gunman was taken out by Demetri without our hero getting shot. Let's face it, no one wants to see Demetri off the show.

Unfortunately, the gunman wasn't using Mark's gun (we learned later that it was probably Dyson Frost who killed the homeless man). There was no real hard proof that the crazy guy had the gun, just that he was driving a car similar to someone who was seen driving away from the other crime scene.

This week Demetri ended up making the decision Mark couldn't make last week -- to leave town with his beloved before something could happen. He asked Zoey to marry him early and said they should travel to Hawaii before he was supposed to be shot. Poor Demetri didn't leave town early enough. Frost followed Demetri home after he and Zoey booked the church. Frost then knocked Demetri out and shoved him in Frost's car. The really weird thing about that was that Frost brought Demetri to the school carnival Olivia and Charlie were at. Frost met Charlie at the end of the episode, but it was kind of unclear about where Frost was headed with that meeting (your thoughts appreciated).

I was also happy to see this week that the Jericho stuff is being folded into the main storyline. The new VP had a little chat with Wedeck and asked him to investigate the head of the paramilitary group. That was also great because it meant that Wedeck might become a bigger part of the show and he's a character who has been severely underutilized. Wedeck, at Mark's suggestion, went on a search for -- and found -- Aaron who promptly informed Wedeck that he was headed for Afghanistan. The agent then provided some slightly illegal support to help get Aaron into Afghanistan so that Aaron can go find his daughter. Illegal? Oh certainly, but heck, that wasn't the first time this season they'd done something illegal.

Quick flashes:

  • At least Mark admitted that he hasn't been making good choices.
  • Charlie and Dillon are setting up playdates for Olivia and Lloyd. The kids are playing Cupid, isn't that sweet?
  • Speaking of, when did Olivia and Lloyd really fall for each other? Because, tonight with that smooch they definitely seem to have fallen.
  • Boy, a bunch of people on the Mosaic squad started at the FBI on the same day. Odd.
  • Nice to see how Zoey met Demetri and that Demetri is a fun drunk.
  • Janis told Demetri she was pregnant. Was that just to make him feel better or for real?

The TV and Film Guy's Reviews - we wouldn't mind a trip to Hawaii ourselves.

I agree both about Marcie's questioning and the search for Mark's gun. Poor Demetri. Out of his friends from school, one's dead and the other two are moles. At least he got to be a good cop with the hostage, and a better partner to Zoey than Mark has been to Olivia. This is the first time I've enjoyed the flashbacks in an episode. Dem officially became my favorite character tonight, so he's not allowed to die next week.

Olivia is all over the map. I want to like her because I like Sonya Walger, but she doesn't make sense. So she's just going to lean into her vision now? Seems like an abrupt turnaround. Glad to see Jericho being connected to the main thread (I hope). Still don't know what to think of Janis. Did she and Dem hook up? Is she really pregnant? Did she tip Frost off?

For a set-up episode, I really liked this one. It was a nice centric for Demetri with a good cliffhanger for next week.

I too was/am confused by Olivia. One minute she doesn't want to have anything to do with Lloyd because she wants to rebuild her marriage and the next she wants to go with her vision.

I agree with the two above. I hate what the writers are doing to Olivia. She's the worst part of the show.

Let's not assume too much about Olivia just yet. One kiss does not mean she's going to be waking up with Lloyd later on. The same way we cannot assume that Aaron finds Tracy. We've seen that the future can change..

My thoughts on what Frost is doing with Dem and Charlie is possibly arrange them in such a way that forces Mark to kill Dem. I'm not totally sure yet, obviously, but I think it's leaning that way. Interested to see what happens.

I watch the shows online after they air, but really enjoy your recaps. Seems like this show is really picking up the pace (whether or not it makes sense to do so!) expecting not to get a pickup for season 2.

I think it is very interesting that the term "Jericho" is again being used for a group or a cell or whatever. The gal who plays Janis reminds me of that quiet girl who was in the show Jericho - the one always scheming to get close to the main guy.

In any case, several of these characters seem to be jumping around without any anchor - Janis, Olivia, Demetri - just for starters. Even Zoey has been a little weird.

The last eps that I truly LOVED and also made some sense were the ones with the doll factory that burned (when they were seeking out the snippet with D. Gibbons name on Mark's board) and the one with the blue hands that Demetri and Mark followed where the blue folks knew Demetri was "one of them".

I really hope that Janis' baby is not Demetri's. In any case, Janis seems expendable and if they have to keep her whiny @#$ on the show, then please make the baby Simon's instead.

Hope that they give Mark a heart, Olivia some courage, and Demetri a brain then we can follow the yellow brick road back to Aunty Em's in Kansas to find the good show that is buried within FlashForward. It had SO MUCH PROMISE, yet is getting swept away with the tide...

Yes, the show is flawed. So is "V".

However, since the return from hiatus, I'm actually enjoying watching this one over "V" (and I really dig a good alien invasion story).

Olivia is just a poorly written character, which is too bad for Sonya Walger.

Although I am warming up to Lloyd. At one point (the kids bumping heads in the park scene) I thought to myself "Lloyd is actually a better father than Mark!".

Both FF and V are have their problems, but at this point, FF is doing better at making adjustments and fixing the most glaring ones.

Why do I have a feeling they are going to try to make Zoey kill Demetri. (I don't think they are going to kill Demetri off.) then when she doesn't succeed Demetri ends up falling for Janis. man if that's happens I'm done with the show. something also tells me they're going to write Gabrielle out of the show.
