'Desperate Housewives': Two killers in Fairview
Gaby gives until she can't give any more
Lee and Bob are arguing and Gaby eavesdrops from outside. When Bob walks out the door, he finds her there. They tell her their egg donor has dropped out again and Lee is ready to just give up. Then, Gaby, ever the giving neighbor, offers her eggs to the couple. As if Carlos would ever approve of that!
Carlos, of course, says no. Gaby tells him that she can do whatever she wants with her eggs. She says her mind is made up. Later, when she's talking to the guys, though, it's clear that she sees herself having a role in the child they create together. Then, the guys tell her that they're moving to upstate New York with the baby, so they can be closer to Lee's mother. That's a shock for Gaby and the guys tell her that the kid will have her genes, but it won't be hers. It's clear that's not what Gaby thought would happen.
Later, she goes to Bob and it seems that Carlos (covering for her) had told them that he wouldn't allow her to give them her eggs. She says she feels awful and Bob tells her that Lee left. As in left, left-- they broke up, because Bob still wants a child and Lee no longer does. Aw, I'm sad for them.
Mike is desperate, too
Susan sees a man trying to break into Mike's car and she runs out to confront him (waving a frying pan as a weapon). She then starts yelling fire in order to get the neighborhood's attention. The man tells her that he's repossessing Mike's truck and she doesn't believe him. Meanwhile, her neighbors run over to see if Susan is OK. Then, Mike runs out and admits that it's true. Turns out he was trying to keep it secret, but so much for that! Hello neighborhood, goodbye truck.
When Susan finds M.J. trying to clog their drain, because he thinks that will get his dad some work, she gets an idea. She goes to the other housewives and has them break something plumbing-related at their homes and gives them money to pay Mike to fix it. Later, Mike comes home from all the work on Wisteria and he's on to Susan. He found her earring in Gaby's drain. Of course, Mike is humiliated. She has a good point when she says that he could have avoided all this if he let her pay his truck for a while. His hang up on being the family's provider, though, just won't let him accept it.
We find out that there's more to his financial problems, though. Later, Mike admits to Carlos that he's broke-- really broke. And he has kept that from Susan. He doesn't want her to find out, because he's not sure she'd forgive him for keeping it from her. So, Carlos offers him a loan.
Is Sam cooking up some trouble?
Bree and Sam arrive at the office and tell Andrew that they're working on a southern cookbook idea. But, Andrew has other fish to fry. It seems he went ahead with his decision to investigate Sam. It turns out that Sam didn't earn his MBA as he claims. In turn, Sam says his mother was months away from dying and he left school to take care of her. He says he'll be making up the credits soon. Bree forgives the lie, but it's clear she's not happy about her son's investigation into Sam.
Later, Sam finds that Andrew has been charging clients for more alcohol than they received. When Bree confronts Andrew, he admits that he did it. He then turns it around on Bree and says Sam is obviously pitting them against each other. Did I miss something? Andrew has been steeling from clients and he decides this is where he calls Sam out? Um, fail. Bree then fires him. I don't know if Sam is on the up and up, but Andrew was clearly in the wrong here.
Bree and Sam are testing recipes for a dinner to show her publishing company that a southern cookbook is a good idea. Sam mentions Andrew's firing. Bree tells him that's their pattern and she'll bring him back to the company eventually. Hm, it doesn't look like Sam is going to sit by and let that happen.
At the business dinner later, Sam discovers that the wine Bree used over her dish was switched with vinegar and ruined it. It's a bit obvious he's trying to frame Andrew. For some reason, the waiters can't grab the plates back and Bree gets a bright idea. She lights a cooking torch near the sprinklers and sets them off! Later when she's telling Orson, he says he doesn't think Andrew did it. Duh. Why is Bree being so thick about this?
Danny and Patrick do some father-son bonding
Patrick has some coffee at the café Danny's works at. He tells Danny he's writing a novel and Danny asks him what it's about. Patrick basically tells him the brief story of his own history with his mother, Angie. When he gets to the part where the guy has tracked down his ex and their son, he tells Danny that he's stuck. Danny then suggests the character should kill her. Patrick tells him that was his first thought, too. Scary!
It's late and Angie is returning home from errands when she hears a noise in the house. She goes to check it out and the phone rings. It's Nick and she asks him to hurry home. Meanwhile, Patrick is watching her through the window.
Back at the café, Patrick visits Danny again. When Danny asks about his book's ending. He tells him that he had "the character" at the house and she was alone. He could have killed her then, but it was too easy. He thinks that since the woman took his child, that the character needs to take something from her. Danny guesses the kid and Patrick nods.
Lynette saves Preston from Irina, but who's looking after Irina?
Lynette takes Irina shopping for wedding dresses and she's being terrible to her future mother-in-law and the salesperson, who happens to be Russian, as well. While Irina changes out of her gown, she gets a phone call. It's some Russian guy and Irina hurriedly tells him something in Russian and hangs up. When Lynette asks her about the phone call, Irina tells her that it's none of her business. The salesperson, though, is more than willing to tell her what Irina said.
The salesperson told Lynette that Irina said, "Go ahead and call the police. You'll never find me!" Over the top Lynette goes straight to the immigration service to rat Irina out and get her deported. Lynette is no joke. After the first guy says there isn't enough evidence to investigate her, Lynette decides to move on to a woman who has family and try again.
Lynette tells Tom that she's going to steal Irina's passport number, because her new friend has agreed to run a background check on Irina. While she's writing the number down, Preston and Irina run in. She hides in the closet while they start to mess around. After texting Tom to get home right away, she realizes that she has to do something and throws a baseball through the window. When Preston and Irina get up to check it out, she runs out of the room.
It's Preston's wedding day! Preston can't find his shoe and Lynette tells Tom that she hid it. Just as she's waiting for a miracle, her friend from the immigration department arrives. She then goes up to Irina and tells her that she has a file on her and she knows she's still married to some guy back in Russia. Oh, and then there's a guy in Italy whose bank account was cleared out. Boldly, Irina tells Lynette she doesn't care, because she'll be married to Preston in an hour and he'll believe her over whatever's in the file. Snap! Preston overhears the entire conversation! Yay! I'm so happy for Lynette, but poor Preston. She approaches him later and tells him that she knows he hates her, but she'd rather he hate her for a while than let him ruin his life.
As Irina is walking way from the house, Preston's friend sees her walking and picks her up. He comes onto her and she rejects him. Then, he goes nuts on her and kills her! We see him digging a hole while her dead body lay next to him.

I know he's sneaking up behind the women and all, but Julie is the only one who escapes? This dude doesn't look too strong.
I think Orson and Andrew are trying to set up Sam.
I really hope Lee will be back and I like him and Bob. That Christmas ep he had the best lines. I guess they had to give Mike a storyline, his whole thing with 'jail' and chasing after Susan is over so now it's onto money problems...okay - fine.
Ah, John Barrowman, even as a creepy stalker he's entertaining.
Good episode.
Someone around here pointed out Eddie as the strangler when Julie was first attacked at the beginning of the season. Can't remember their name though, but I've been on to him since then!
"Why is Bree being so thick about this?"
Basically, to provide Orson some sort of role, otherwise he'd have no screentime. Bree is perfectly capable of coming to the conclusion that Orson told her tonight, but otherwise Orson would have no role in this storyline. I still don't understand why they didn't kill off Orson, since it's so clear that the writers are struggling to keep the character relevant to the show.
Jethro, I SOOOO CALLED The Strangler back in November!!!!! http://www.tvovermind.com/desperate-housewives/who-is-the-fairview-strangler-on-desperate-housewives-the-anti-critic-thinks-he-knows/13626
The strangler reveal was just too lame for words. This is a character that has been so minor, it's an exaggeration to call him a minor character. Sorry, but these writers are a lazy bunch aren't they? They're mailing it in.
Bottom line, somebody said something about having a problem coming up with a role for Orson, and somebody else mentioned the change in Mike's storyline to keep him relevant.
Here's the thing, that's not the character or actor's job. Things don't just happen, that's the job of a writer to develop story lines, and so far they have failed.
Who even knows who Angie and Nick are at this point? Their characters have become almost as minor as the lame strangler. Danny's role isn't much more developed, and to what extent it is is due only to Anna, who was also quickly relegated to afterthought status.
Marc Cherry should just change the name of this show to "Happy Positive Gay Role Models In A Neighborhood Of Desperate Housewives And Their Screwed Up Straight Husbands". You just know that's what he really wants to do with the show anyway, why not just do it and get it over with.
Bottom line, and disclaimer-I like Bob and Lee, and Andrew, and the lesbian stripper, etc., but they've been given so much screen time they've interfered with the main plot to such an extent this show has become practically incoherent.
ABC ought to send Bob packing next, back to One Life to Live, where, as I understand, the ratings are up about 80,000 viewers a week since KISH has largely been written off.
Wonder if the ratings go up here now as well, as we head to the season finale?
PatrickKelley, that's exactly what I said. I said that the WRITERS are struggling to keep Orson relevant to the show. I never laid blame on the actor. IMO, the character isn't interesting enough for the effort, so they should just kill him off.

PatrickKelley, that's exactly what I said in my original comment. I said that the WRITERS are struggling to find a role for Orson. I never laid blame on the actor. IMO, the character is simply not interesting enough to warrant the effort. Throughout his run on the show, I've never seen his marriage to Bree being either A) interesting or B) believable.
As DB said in KTV's related post, the big reveal of the killer was pretty obvious from the intro!
Here's my 10 cents worth...
-I feel so bad for Bob and for Bob & Lee!
-Is it wrong that I totally loved the scenes between Danny and his daddy?! Great job with the casting of these two as they look so much alike and had an instant chemistry!
-Andrew is smart, Orson (surprisingly?) is smart, Bree is stoopid, Sam is eeevil (and would look hotter without that ridiculous hair cut! I know how cute Sam Page is from his soap opera days and DH is doing him (and us!) a disservice with that do!!) and this storyline is currently way to predictable!!
-MJ was adorable!! A big "ahhh!" moment.
-You forgot to mention that last night's DH was brought to us by Teri Hatcher's *****!!
Thanks for the recap!
I totally agree that that the reveal of Eddie as the killer was kinda lame and obvious from WAY back. It doesn't bother me that it's a minor character, just that NO ONE would sense that he's nuts. Come on, he'd slip just a little here and there at least...
And yeah, that Eddie is pretty scrawny... But if I remember correctly, Julie didn't escape. We just see her getting strangled and then it cut away. I'm guessing he left her alive on purpose...? Didn't he start killing after Julie? As in he began to escalate his crimes? And there better be a pay off with this. Besides the main housewives, who could he kill that would make this worth doing?
Yes, the writing is definitely off, but this show has always had too many characters and frequently left them in the background. So this isn't exactly a new problem; it's just more obvious now that there are even more characters around.
I find now that when I watch DH, I can enjoy that individual episode, but when I think about the season or the storylines or character development, then I'm unsatified. It's like the sum is less than it's parts.
My beef with the Bree/Sam story is similar to some other folks. I don't understand why Bree isn't picking up on how creepy Sam is. I also don't understand why While Andrew isn't a better match for Sam. While Andrew has changed for the better over the years, I think his behavior as a teenager would prove that he's more than capable of dealing with Sam. Sam may be more clever, but Andrew is more diabolical...
