'FlashForward': Zoey shows her love
Things are really starting to move on "FlashForward." Not everything is moving in sane and/or logical ways, but stuff is moving. Even if it sometimes leads me to yelling at my TV due to the foolishness of the movement, it's fun to watch.I can't really imagine what life is like for Zoey and Demetri at this point. Zoey has to try and accept the fact that soon, rather than planning a wedding, she's going to be planning a memorial service. Does that make her grilling Mark about hypothetical situations in which Mark might want to kill Demetri right? Probably not, but it makes it understandable.
Her filing a Freedom of Information Act request however for all the Mosaic stuff- to me - not only made sense but was probably right too. Oh, I get that it would completely piss off Demetri, but I think another set of eyes, particularly a clearly intelligent lawyer's eyes, might be able to help. That's especially true as it doesn't seem like the taskforce has been able to work out much at all, does it? Wedeck's reluctance to hand over the info made sense too, but I'm happy he acquiesced ... even if he had to be bullied into it.
Zoey's pursuing the issue may destroy her relationship with Demetri, but if she's faced with the choice between loving a dead Demetri and losing a live one... well, that's not much of a choice, is it? Janis understood perfectly and explained it to Demetri - Zoey was acting in the way she was because she loved Demetri; she's was doing everything she could to keep him alive. That wasn't a particularly easy conversation for Demetri to have, but it was good that he listened and seemed to understand.
Actually, it was a night full of really difficult conversations, wasn't it? Mark had a conversation with Lloyd in the room where Mark currently sleeps with Olivia and where Lloyd will soon be sleeping with Olivia. Good to know that Lloyd gave up all the info he could last week. No, I mean that seriously - I'm happy to have the information, you can't fault someone for divulging everything they know when they've been kidnapped and their children have been threatened.
You want to talk about foolish moves though? We can do that. Seriously, how dumb was Aaron telling anyone - even Tracy's army buddy - that she was back. No one deserves to have their child kidnapped, but Aaron was kind of asking for it, wasn't he? Hadn't Tracy explained to him about Jericho? Hadn't he been paranoid enough to have Mark look into Jericho? Hadn't he learned about Tracy's CO dying two days after she "died?" When you have that sort of info, you don't tell anyone that your daughter - who is still in hiding - is back. Really dumb move on his part.
At least Aaron was smart enough to go and question Mike about it. I might have called in my good friend the FBI agent to help with the questioning, but Aaron probably wasn't thinking straight, was he? No, he couldn't have been because he went to visit Jericho's head of operations, Erskine. The fact that Aaron got info on Tracy probably being in Kandahar by listening in on Erskine's call didn't mean that the way he went about getting the info - or the way he is now going to use the information is right.
But, Aaron's a guy who loves his daughter, that's why we got the flashbacks of him tonight. And, as with Lloyd giving up info when his son was threatened, you can't really fault Aaron for trying to beat the stuffing out of the guard who said some less than polite things about a young Tracy.
Quick flashes:
- Grilled peanut butter and banana sandwiches... oh lord, that's disgusting, completely disgusting.
- "I don't have the time to play 'Prissy Brit' with you." Mark, if your flash is accurate, you're going to be playing "Prissy Brit" for a long time.
- D. Gibbons is Dyson Frost. I wonder if Charlie has been playing with plagiarizing physicists lately. Can't wait to find out more of that storyline.
- Vogel has apparently jumped on the crazy train (as evidenced by the Somalia trip)... gee, that didn't take long. At least he didn't want Mark in the field for the trip.
- Uh oh, Mark's gun is gone. I would say that no one could have seen that coming, except we all did.
The TV and Film Guy's Reviews - we crumble under torture.

This show is a good example why serials most often fail. Big inconsistencies, glaring omissions, dumb and illogic protagonists. And of course the constant threat of cancellation, which would mean that you never get to see the end or even the second act of the story. Even serial shows with only season long good story arcs are rare and practically nonexistent on network television. And in the past years only Lost managed to be a successful multi season serial with satisfying (although not perfect) internal logic and consistencies.
Theoretically I prefer serials over procedurals, but I'm so frustrated by the poor execution of 99% of them that I almost completely stopped watching them on network tv.
Enjoyable episode overall. I like that they seem to be shifting more to character stories than just random stuff happening and olivia's ff playing 1000 times. Janis, Demetri, Simon, Aaron, Lloyd, and even Zoey are starting to take shape for me, and the plot's getting interesting, too. I can appreciate the strong female characters, too. They have agency, which is really refreshing to see. Too bad Fiennes still has to be the lead because he's not really cutting it. Can we lose him and keep Vogel instead? As far as Lost goes, while I'm a fan, that show has practically zero internal logic (remember when everything was supposed to be based on (bad, faulty) science? now, it's all explained by magic and two random dudes who may or may not be gods). Back to FF...Aaron was a total idiot, but I did like that he went rogue. Also, how cool is it to have a show where people actually talk to each other and question all of the weird crap going on?
I gave up on this show after last week, and now I think I'm glad I did! There is no way the feds would have to turn over Mosaic records under a FOIA request, it would be subject to an exemption/exclusion. Totally ridiculous.
About Aaron last night when it was showing the "Previously on FlashForward" and it showed Aaron talking to Tracy's army buddy I thought ... "He's in on it" and then during the episode when Aaron told him that Tracy was at home I thought ... "He's going to be sorry he did that."
I really like "FF" and I really, really hope it gets picked up for next season, but unfortunately I am having my doubts. I just hope that one way or another, if it does end this season that they can wrap things up, but honestly I'm not quite sure how they can do that.
Also, to Mikey71, one thing I've noticed about most tv shows and movies is that they are never perfect and there are alot of inconsistencies, omissions, etc ... and if you're looking for a show that doesn't have these then you're probably going to be looking for a long, long time. It's sometimes difficult but for me I just try my best to ignore these things and enjoy the show.
I realize that these episodes are running later than intended due to the Olympics, but still - Janis told the fertility doc that in her FF she was in her second trimester, and right now she's not even pregnant, and that FF date is only 4 weeks away.
"another set of eyes, particularly a clearly intelligent lawyer's eyes"
The things I could say on the subject of Gabrielle Union's eyes would run on much, much longer than this.
Well, the good news is the story pacing has picked up and a few peripheral characters (Lloyd, Aaron, Zoey, Simon, etc.) have gotten a little more interesting.
The bad new is it may be too little too late. Serialized shows need to come out of the gate strong and remain that way. Long breaks, like what ABC has done to FF and V, will kill momentum and viewer interest.
FlashForward does have an solid premise. ABC should have worked out all the bugs before the show began airing and then run it non-stop beginning in February or March.
"Seriously, how dumb was Aaron telling anyone - even Tracy's army buddy - that she was back."
I'm guessing the writers had to create a situation were Tracy was abducted in order to push Aaron to take more aggressive actions. The Aaron character was a huge failure right from the start. This new direction makes him infinitely more interesting.
The other moves the showrunners made during the hiatus (pulling Mark from active duty, bringing in Vogel, making Simon a major player in the story, etc.) are all positive steps. However, judging from the ratings, it doesn't appear enough TV viewers actually care anymore.
Nice to see all the interest left about this show--NOT. LMAO. last night was the first night i didn't watch it and NO REGRETS.
While Flashforward was on hiatus, I watch Jericho, remember that great show ? Great story line, great acting it should not have been canceled. Then I went back to Flashforward... ouch ! I could not help to notice all the flaws, the bad acting, stupid non sense story line.. Joseph Fiennes is especially mediocre, I unfortunenately saw "the Darwin Awards movie" and it seems like he's playing the same stupid character in Flashforward. Very, very disapointing !
