This is Zap2it's new quick 'n dirty "American Idol" recap. The full recap is live here.

The Highlights: Lacey Brown and Didi Benami finally put their quirky voices to good use. Their choices of "The Story" and "Rhiannon," respectively, were brilliant. They may have sung their way back into the Top 12.

The Lowlights: Katie Stevens still can't figure it out. She has a tremendous instrument and no idea what to do with it. Paige Miles also had a really rough week and that coupled with the issue we addressed last week plus the fact that she had little to no screen time before the Top 24 means she is most likely going home.

The Lights: Katelyn Epperly was in good shape last week but her milquetoast effort this week should have her scared, while I am left to wonder what Simon Cowell was thinking after Siobhan Magnus. She gave a straight-up beautiful vocal, but Cowell was critical. Lilly Scott wasn't my personal favorite but the judges gave her good critiques and she should be safe.

Why no mention of Crystal Bowersox? This marks her third good week in a row -- she's the only one who has absolutely punched her ticket to the Top 12.

I thought the Lacey Brown performance was AWFUL. She took a powerfully emotional (and SAD) song and turned it into a coy little happy ditty. No thank you, Lacey.

Crystal seriouly wow how come no one has signed this girl yet? Siobhan was good as well...Didi was too!

Strange night by Simon. I don't know what he was talking about a couple times. I think Siobhan is the highlight of the show right now. I'm not a crystal fan. There`s one way and one only to be a guitar harp player and that`s to be an incredible songwriter like Bob Dylan. Otherwise it gets real old, real fast. Everybody is on the bandwagon now but let me know in a month.

Crystal is beginning to bore me. Siobhan is my favorite right now.

None of the females have a outstanding voice. Siobhan song Think by Aretha Franklin last week and was weak through the whole song. She screamed that one note. And everyone thought that was good. Terrible. That was not singing that was just yelling. The judges have already decided who they want to win. And the voters are going to go along with the judges. The only one who has a descent voice is DiDi. But noone moves me!They surly are no Fantasia or Jennifer Hudson. Put them on the stage with those real good singers. Wont stand a chance!

american idol, the show i once loved, died last night. it died when i could no longer deny after watching these performances that no one, not even bowersox, was able to bring a measure of energy, of excitement, a fire to their performances that would signal that they really wanted to win, and that they wanted to give an entertaining performance.

these contestants are starting to look and sound exactly alike - there is nothing making any of them stand out in the crowd, or provide that one ''wow'' moment that let's you know they are a contender, and that they really belong there. i'm even wondering if the casting for s9 is a joke, done to deliberately sabotage idol to make way for simon's ''x'' factor. idol has lost its magic, that mojo surrounding it and the contestants - that something special quality that, regardless if your fave won or not, made you want to tune in each week. clarkson, underwood, aiken, studdard, fantasia, daughtry, hicks, doolittle, archuleta - just a few alums who had performances that lit up the show, created watercooler moments that are lacking in this season, and compelled the viewer to want to watch.

idol's fast descent to the bottom began last year in s8, and last night was evidence of idol scraping it, and scraping it hard. the show is a shell of its former self. the party's over for idol, and this former idol lover, i'm turning out the light as i leave.

Sibhan rules!!! I love Tim Urban!!!

Did anyone else notice the chemistry between Ryan Seacreast and Didi? If you don't see it, go back and watch video of them together from last week and this week. They stand a little bit closer than Ryan does with other contestants, he touchs her arm more than the others... there is something there... watch them.
