'American Idol' first impressions: Michael Lynche improves, Tim Urban does not
The "American Idol" men were 100% better than last week. Which wouldn't actually take much, but still. Good for them. This is Zap2it's new quick initial "Idol" ZapCap. The full recap is live here.
The Highlights: Michael Lynche and Lee Dewyze
These two were the bookends Tuesday (Mar. 2) night and rightfully so. Michael kicked it off with a killer "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" by James Brown and got deserved praise by the judges. Lee Dewyze capped off the night with "Lips of an Angel" by Hinder and while there were a few bum notes, Lee is incredibly current and radio-friendly.
The Lowlights: Aaron Kelly and Tim Urban
Aaron's "My Girl" wasn't that good, but thousands of tweens just went New-Kids-on-the-Block-crazy and text-voted a gazillion times for him. Likewise, Tim Urban got panned by Randy, Ellen and Kara but will surely be saved by Simon Cowell's praise.
The Lights: Todrick Hall and Casey James
Todrick Hall again changed up a song and again the judges ripped him apart. They then spent the rest of the episode telling the contestants to change up songs and make them more original. Meanwhile, frontrunner Casey James might have shown his soft underbelly this week -- that he's actually a great guitar player who can kinda sing.

I agree Tim Urban was not good but I kinda liked Aaron Kelly and I am 42 not a preteen...i also liked the mullet kid and Lee Dewyze
Andrea I'm so glad that you mention the fact that the judges CONSTANTLY tell the singers to change the song and make it their own...they constantly say DON'T just sing the same exact song...then with this guy all they do is criticize that he does. I LOVED how David Cook sang Hello his year...BUT...it was hardly recognizable as the same song but they fault this guy for that. Not saying he is the best singer...it's just very frustrating and I can't believe no one is saying anything.
Like: Michael Lynche
So-So: Lee Dewyze ( I hate that song), Andrew Garcia (He's a fav, but why do his songs suck?), Alex Lambert (love the voice, hate his awkwardness), John Park (love his voice, hate the shyness)
I have to say that Lee isn't as great as Simon says he is. There are about 4 dudes with better voices, but that said, he's not BAD.
But some of your comments are similar to mine on MY recap:
