'NCIS': Damon Werth and fast cars

mark-harmon-ncis-320.jpgDamon Werth, former steroid taker and one-time mercenary is probably not the greatest witness in the world. And yet, a witness is exactly what he was with this "NCIS" case. The fact that he broke into Gibbs' house and was seemingly involved in some other illegal stuff with folks who probably got his friend, Heatherton, killed didn't speak very well of him either. Plus, he claimed to have blacked out and thus couldn't remember what happened. Yeah, he was definitely somewhere on the list of suspects even if he most likely wasn't the guy.

It may have been a roofie that caused Werth to black out, but even Gibbs knows that he can't trust Werth -- Gibbs may kind of like the former marine, but he still gave him the drug test. I know, you're going to say that Gibbs clearly trusts Werth because he allowed Werth to get on the truck of our interstate trafficker, Aaron Szwed, and that if Gibbs didn't trust him that never would have happened. I'm going to tell you right back that Gibbs sent Ziva along as well because Gibbs knew that Werth couldn't be left alone with the baddies. But, that's just how I see it.

It was kind of an odd episode though, there was very little case to the case. The team just went with the theory that Werth's buddy was murdered by Szwed because of the interstate trafficking (which turned into a hijacking). They didn't seem to look anywhere else, they solely operated based on Werth's information. Okay, maybe you're right, maybe Gibbs does trust Werth (or maybe they just didn't know where else to go). Szwed was doing illegal stuff obviously, but the leap from illegal activity to murder seemed liked a pretty large one.

How did it all boil down to "Cannonball Run?" And why, if it did boil down to that cross-country car race movie, did Tony not reference the classic flick? Szwed was apparently all perturbed about losing a fancy-schmancy car in a race for pink slips (I know a Barracuda and a Maybach -- nice cars, but I'd rather a Veyron) and the theory went that Szwed killed Heatherton for costing him the race. Man, that would have made Szwed a really bad dude, wouldn't it have? Killing someone over a car is totally not cool. I'm not suggesting that killing someone over a hit-and-run they witnessed is, Devoisier was certainly a bad guy, but to me that felt more reasonable than just losing an expensive car in a race.

Let me ask you this though -- Werth and Ziva? That's all just a bunch of hooey, right? Tony hates that guy so I'm assuming that Ziva did the peck on the cheek thing solely to tweak Tony. I don't think that if Werth and Ziva got together that would preclude Tony and Ziva getting together at a later date, but I just don't believe the show is going to head down the Werth/Ziva road. Even McGee made it clear that he thought Tony and Ziva were sleeping together. There's just too much potentially happening in that relationship at this point for them to bring Werth in for anything more than a quick laugh at Tony's expense. Right?

Odds and ends:

  • Gibbs is going to be locking his door now? Margaret Allison Hart must have really rattled him.
  • I respect Tony for trying to sleep in a massage chair, I couldn't do that.
  • Can McGee really not handle a couple of all-nighters? I know Gibbs is the man, but I expected better from McGee than that.
  • Who doesn't like Fornell?

I didn't see anything between Werth and Ziva and Tony was more irritated than jealous. Werth did hurt him and his teammates, but it was nice of Tony trying to help the guy out.

You can tell Tony is SO in love with Ziva.

Tony had a hamster called Ferrari. lol

There were SO many obvious hints to Tony and Ziva being already involved I'm not sure where you could even think Ziva and Werth. First was McGee when Gibbs said "get Tony and Ziva out of bed" - McGee's stuttering implies that Ziva and Tony were in bed together and McGee knows all about it. Then there was Ziva talking about where Tony sleeps (the sleep chair) if that didn't sound like a girlfriend slightly scolding a boyfriend.... And then at the end when Werth leaned in for a kiss, Tony sat straight up in the chair (after jealous behavior all episode) and when Werth left his looks at Ziva and her teasing back, they are def. together and that was a little jealously Tony was showing at the end.

I think since Gibbs rule is that co-workers don't hook up, they are keeping it on the downlow, and later in the season, or another season, its going to come out that they are together and there will be some sort of flashback showing when and how they got together and kept it all hidden.

Unless the writers are screwing with us big time, Tony and Ziva are already involved. Maybe even have slepted together.

The episode itself was mediocre by NCIS standards. But still, good television.

What's with the soft focus. I thought the show was a dream sequence in the beginning... kept waiting for them to get to the "sharp' present. Nix that 'Doris Day' lens or does everyone on the show want to look younger. More Substance story wise... less artsy stuff... less personal affectations would be appreciated. Overall disappointing episode.

Fornell is a great character and Joe Spano performs the role very well. As a character, it's great to see an equal to Gibbs, personally and professionally. I like the beard, gives him an added depth.

Liked it when Gibbs said to Fornell - "you slept with my wife" - precious. Was surprised to see Damon reprise his character in the show - NCIS doesn't do that very often. Was also surprised to find Gibbs not trusting Damon - after all, he gave him his medal in the previous ep. Thought he admired the young marine. That's just to show you - one can never tell what goes on in the Gibbs head...

Damon will be on NCIS LA next.

Ziva had a thing for Damon the last time he was on, so Tony knows that she's already attracted to him. So, his jealousy had a foundation...but I think Ziva was just messing with him and nothing will come of it.

Tony and Ziva are SO doing it!

Don't think Tony and Ziva are doing IT.
Not yet.
Maybe never the way its going.
Ziva and Werth are two kindred spirits. She knew that when they first met if you will remember back to Corporal Punishment. And now, since her time in Somalia, she's more conscious of that than ever. Witness what she said to Werth on the truck. She was talking about herself as well. Don't think she did the peck on the cheek to make Tony jealous but as a true sign of affection for Damon. Tony made himself jealous.
I really loved the interactions of all the players in this episode. Fornell and Gibbs, always fun to watch, Gibbs and McGee, Tony and McGee, Ziva and Werth, Ziva and Tony...all fun. Gibbs seemed very "playful" this episode. That was fun too.
