'24': Renee gets nasty with the Russians

24-season-8.jpgChalk up seven more souls to the rising "24" body count, but I'm sure Agent Walker would like to have been number eight, after doing the horizontal mambo for the greater good of America.

Hassan is getting an itchy trigger finger with regards to those who threaten the peace in his country. Wanting to ensure the accords are signed, he begins to have every ne'er-do-well rounded up. This group includes the cousin of Jamot, a key member of his delegation. Because of this, the seemingly mild-mannered Jamot is forced back to the embassy for further questioning. This increase in violence doesn't fare well for President Taylor, either, as she now has the unenviable task of calming down the co-signing delegates by keeping them in the loop of the entire situation. Just you wait when this blows up in their face. Figuratively, of course.

As for this Dana/Kevin Wade deal... oy. She continues to play along with this ridiculous plan of his to acquire a six-figure payoff, so that he'll stay quiet about how she's merely reformed white trash. Dana even makes a NYPD access card for Keith to use to break into an evidence locker and swipe $120,000 in drug money. What she should be realizing all along is that she can't continue to play Arlo for a fool, especially with him watching surveillance footage of her passing the keycard to Keith.

Onto the much more honorable (if futile) effort of Josef trying to cure his younger brother Oleg of what ails him. The good news, according to the doc, is that despite being in renal failure and having been exposed to enough radiation to kill a normal Russian, Oleg's condition can be managed. Josef insists the doc show him how to treat his brother, even after nixing the better option of a bone-marrow transplant. Sergei is rather miffed that his sons haven't made it to the safe house yet, so he sends a team to retrieve his kin, shooting the entire clinic staff in the process. Of course, because he was so blatantly disobeyed numerous times, Sergei ends Oleg's suffering once and for all. Just because you can do a mercy killing doesn't mean you should do a mercy killing. Then again, I imagine Josef won't be disobeying Daddy again.

Renee is one tortured soul... that we know. Jack absolutely insists to Brian Hastings that she be pulled out ASAP. Of course, because CTU isn't exactly in the torture business anymore, she's the only viable plan they have. While CTU develops Jack's cover, Renee works Vladimir to get 30% of whatever deal is negotiated. Vlad wants $5 million up-front or else there is no deal. It wouldn't hurt if Renee willingly offered her mind, body and soul as well. She does ultimately give in to his whims... if only because pain is temporary, while defeating Russians is forever. Or at least until Day 9.

Meanwhile, Jack and Cole (he's back) butt heads a little bit. Methinks Mr. Bauer isn't used to CTU agents being his physical and mental equal. Once all the pieces are in place, Jack meets Vladimir's people on the roof of a parking garage. In disguise as Ernst Meier, Jack talks the talk and deposits the cash into the account, while getting an assist from Team Cole in taking down three of the four flunkies. The lucky(?) survivor gets the privilege of driving Ernst back to Vladimir HQ. I'm sure he's not ready for what he's about to find: Renee getting it on with Vlad, even after promising herself that she wasn't that kind of girl.

Can't Dana find a better way to get the money? You'd think she would have a better way to get money than getting the two guys to physically steal the money. The Renee story is making good progress, but I'm still waiting for something to happen with the other stories. It's 24 so patience is needed.

Review of the episode on my blog:
http://th3tvobsessed.blogspot.com/2010/02/review-24-season-8-episode-6-day-8-900.html

Jack spent most of the episode driving around in a car, which early in the hour was a Chevy Malibu (product placement, since chevy is a sponsor?) Then later in the show this beige car suddenly turned into an Audi!!! More upscale and appropriately 'German'... BUT....

"Then again, I imagine Josef won't be disobeying Daddy again."

I disagree. I think this might be cause for a big betrayal later in the season.

Heather-I 100% agree. I think this might tip the scale for Josef to do something to get back at his dad; but his father's actions just made him realize he needs to be smarter about it.

The Dana Walsh story better have a GREAT payoff, because...UGH. Never have I been bored with a side story since (maybe season 4?) the female head of CTU had the daughter with mental problems - so she kept getting sidelined.

There's no way fredie prince would be able to shoot down two gunman that quick by himself!

I keep thinking that there has to be something more to the Dana/Kevin sub-plot. I haven't read any spoilers, but maybe Arlo is going to help Dana cover up that she is helping Kevin??? Otherwise, I'm not sure what the point is of Arlo and Dana getting so much screen time.

I agree with Heather that Josef is going to betray his father in a future episode because he shot his brother. Of course, I have to mention that Chloe and Cole (C & C?) have been doing a great job helping out Jack so far! :-)

Last night's episode was SOOOOO boring. We were fighting to stay awake in the first half hour. I so don't care about these stupid Russians, Renee, or Dana with her hair over her shoulder. And Jack barely did a thing last night except wear dark-rimmed glasses to be German. So stupid. I've been watching this show since season one and normally love it but this season has sucked azz.

So far this season has been rather ridiculous and scattershot, as if they need to keep introducing new storylines to fill out the required 24 episodes. This has been like watching a soap opera (like General Hospital, perhaps) instead of the typical season of 24. I'm not bored, per se, but I really think the show needs to be put to bed after this season. It had a great run, but it's time to drop the curtain.

And I say again...if CTU was really in charge of all and sundry where national security was concerned, we'd be speaking either Russian or some Arabic language by now. There is no way a lying limp dishrag like Dana would make it past the initial interview, let alone the psych evaluation that potential agents must all complete before being hired. Plus, any decent background check would have discovered her previous life anyway. It's a shoddy subplot in a subpar season. I expected better material for Katee Sackhoff, not this Lifetime Movie of the Week merde.

MEH! Another episode that was completely boring.

Although the Jack & Renee plot is dull, what made this episode worse is the storyline with Dana/Jenny and Kevin...I can't stand them anymore.

If “24” continues to be dull, I’ll be watching CBS!

I have never been so disinterested in pretty much all the storylines. Something good better happen soon because I'm losing any interest in the season. I think it may be because there's not enough Jack so far.
Next season: Jack running as vice-presidential nominee. Tell me if you think that would be cool and a good way to end the series.
