'One Tree Hill': Alex lives!
"One Tree Hill" left us last week with the grisly image of Alex killing herself. This week, it opens with a big "just kidding!"
Julian goes to see Alex and discovers her in the bathtub. I can't remember why he would just randomly show up there. Did she ask him to come over? Or was he just responding to Alex's super-pathetic voice mail? Anywhoodle, of course Alex isn't dead. I guess only non-regulars are allowed to actually go through with the deed (like Jimmy, as a commenter so kindly reminded me of last week).
After visiting Alex in the hospital to tell her they got financing for their movie, he goes to Brooke and tells her he loves and wants to be with her, but is still going to make the movie with Alex. Brooke gets him to admit he has a habit of trying to "save" women, which he reveals goes back to his mother. Ah, Mommy issues. Run away, Brooke! Run far, far away.
Clay gets a tip that the center for the Sacramento Kings (who just so conveniently is from a town near Raleigh) is in North Carolina visiting his dying mother. Clay proves he might just have agent in his blood after all when he goes to the hospital and immediately tries to talk up the player in the hospital waiting room in order to steal him from his old agency. In the process of maneuvering a deal to get the player on the Bobcats and therefore closer to his dying mother, Clay and Quinn get closer.
Meanwhile, Jamie is worried about going to Spain, so his parents try to convince him to be okay with it by pelting tomatoes at him in the spirit of La Tomatina. Um, okay? Just as Nathan is ready to sign his international deal, Clay shows up with the news he landed him a $15 million deal to play with the Bobcats (via a trade with the Kings). Wow, the Bobcats went from a $2 million offer to agreeing to take over a $15 million contract from the Kings? Clay is the best agent ever! I guess. Or else this trade makes absolutely no sense. (If the center with the dying mom was that good a player to encourage Charlotte to pick up Nathan in a package deal, would Sacramento really be so willing to let him go? But here I go again, trying to apply Earth logic to OTH.)
Millie tells Mouth about how she stole the signature dress from Brooke's new collection. Millie then apologizes to Brooke for stealing the dress and for her bad behavior in general, even the cocaine use. Brooke fires her as her model but tells her as a friend to go to rehab. She does, and then Millie and Mouth break up! I'm not sure where either one of them fit on this show separately, so it should be interesting to see where the powers that be take their characters from here.
Dan does his promised show from the hallway of Tree Hill High, but instead of doing the sensational show Rachel wants he uses the time to end his show for good and promise to give all of his money to charity since you "shouldn't be able to profit from murdering someone." This is very true, but...I dunno, guys. Evil Dan is far more fun than a redemption-seeking Dan. Also, I'm sorry, but Dan is simply not allowed to miss Keith. He treated Keith like dirt right up until the day he shot him in cold blood.

Random thoughts:
- I know this show always starts with a musical montage sequence (at least it has in the last few seasons) but some things don't quite feel like montage material. Like the image of Alex's wrists bleeding into a warm bathtub.
- No WAY the GM of a sports franchise is at dance team tryouts. Just...no WAY.
- Skills got the sports choreography job in Los Angeles. See ya, Skills! I used to love your comic relief, but now you're just sort of boring. They never really developed his relationship with the blond teacher (she's such a nothing character I don't even know her name) so it was hard to work up any emotion about the end of their relationship.
- The random bartender dude shows his purpose when he reveals his musical talent on the Tric piano. (In real life, he's apparently the lead singer for Wakey!Wakey!.) It always bugs me when characters who are supposedly alone have backing vocals, though.

1. What time of year is it in the OTH world? Because the NBA is in full swing, yet on OTH it seems to be pre-season... no practices, contracts being negotiated, cheerleading auditions, etc. I am confused. And ditto on the GM at Cheerleading tryouts.
2. I think we won't have Mouth anymore -- he's moving to L.A. with Skills, so it will just be Millie, at least for now. And thank God, b/c Mouth gets on my last nerve.
3. I liked Dan and Rachel as this evil power couple.
4. Still feeling kinda blech/blah about Quinn.
I laughed so hard when Quinn was dancing at the try outs. She was so bad! I also thought it was funny how Grubs the bartender gets everyones drink right except the one he likes. Clay was very sweet in this episode and it made me like Quinn a little more. I hope Brooke and Julian make it but I have a feeling there is going to be a break between them then after sometime they will get back together. Who is this blonde guy that talked to Brooke at the end?? He better not be a new love interest, he is not cute at all!
I have told my friends, and everyone I know that Dan (Paul J) is probably the best actor on TV right now. In a show where so many characters struggle to just be 2 dimensional, the man is vividly 3 dimensional. Is he evil? Is he loving? Can he really be a good grandpa to Jamie after being so bad with Lucas and Nathan? Does he love Rachel? Is he honestly sorry about keith? How did Jimmys mom effect him? Each word he says, I think slowly reveals what is going on in his head, and leaves me begging for more. In so many shows that have young adults, and another generation above them, I am so bored, but Dan on OTH honestly makes me really come back for more. Finally, what is amazing, is that I hear that he is an absolutely amazing person off the show in real life.
"But here I go again, trying to apply Earth logic to OTH."
Nice. That's why we like this show, right? It's good fun in its ridiculousness.
And, seriously, what was blonde teacher's name?
Why oh why is Brooke so insecure? Could she be any hotter? It's so annoying.
You missed a HUGE OTH inside joke. When Jamie and Nathan goes to the bar they are discussing Jamie's age, and when his birthday is, he says something like "sometimes its in june, I don't know, it changes" it was a throw back to season 4, 5, and now. Haley was in labor at their high school graduation, they then had his party sometime after the new yr (just after lucas' non-wedding)and recently it was in september. That's the thing with this show, no one knows what time it is ever, and we just embrace it!
I think that Lucas and Peyton should be brought back. They disappeared without knowing what happened. That was one bad decision. I don't watch it like I did either to my other friends, it is not the same.
brooke is the best character on the show and has been since the beginning i really wanted s7 to be good cos i wanted it to do well without chad after the way he left the show and it wasnt fair on hilarie, even tho they said it wasnt about money, after the vid she posted on youtube said it all. i dont think s7 is any good tho they keep making brooke sad and she nevr even spends time wit haley which i would love to see. also i hope she makes julian really jeolous and he realise who is the best brooke not alex she will be hat way forever
Bring back Lucas and Peyton. We need to find out there story. OTH is not the same w/out them.
You think the time line is bizarre. In one small town in N.C. there are two major recording artists, two best selling authors, an NBA star, a cafe owner who marries a billionaire mogul, a cheerleader who starts a major fashion line, the class nerd is a tv sports caster. Poor Peyton is the least accomplished she just has her own record label.
