'Desperate Housewives': Katherine stabs herself
Tonight on "Desperate Housewives," Katherine's cuckoo goes to a whole new level of crazy. The Fairview Strangler
Emily Portsmith is found dead in the coffeeshop, which prompts the ladies to take a self-defense class (at the recommendation of Nurse Mona).
Lynette & Carlos
Carlos forces Lynette into a broom closet office and gives her job to Tim. Just when it looks like they're going to make up (because of Gabby), Lynette serves Carlos with lawsuit papers. Carlos then assigns her an impossible task on the night of Penny's Christmas pageant and when she doesn't get it done, has her fired for not being able to perform her duties (due to having a family/being pregnant). Lynette cries.
Bree & Susan
Bree goes to an ex-con Orson knew in the joint to bribe him to come see Orson (so she can get Orson's parole violated by showing him hanging with a known felon) but she tells Karl she only wants to scare Orson into a divorce, not get him landed back in jail.
Meanwhile, Karl switches cars with Julie to make her feel safer (because the attacker knows her car). This leads to some excellent hijinks when Susan sees Julie's car parked outside the motorlodge and finds out about Bree and Karl.
Susan decides she needs to put Bree straight; Bree needs to know what she's getting into. Susan lays out all the bad stuff about Karl, but Bree says he's changed and Susan gives them her blessing. It's a surprisingly mature scene from Susan and Karl and very sweet.
The Bolens
Angie is dismayed to hear that Nick was the last customer before Emily was strangled. Nick suggests they move and Angie balks because she likes Fairview and her new friends. Meanwhile, Danny takes another stab at Julie Mayer and she rejects him again. He comes home to his parents fighting. So he tries to kill himself. When he wakes up in the hospital, he tells Nurse Mona that his name is Tyler, not Danny.
Katherine and the Psychosis
Katherine starts trying to get at Mike through MJ, which obviously angers Mike. When Katherine ultimately pseudo-kidnaps MJ, Mike tells her he never really cared for her and to stay away from his family. Katherine then preemptively calls an ambulance and stabs herself with a big knife. Oh Katherine.
Thoughts & Tidbits
- I'm no lawyer (except I actually kinda am) and Lynette could still sue the pants off Carlos for discrimination. The time frame he gave her to itemize those things was unreasonable and he then fired her when she didn't meet his unreasonable demands, even after she worked all night (and is pregnant). She could take him to the cleaners. And I hope she does because Carlos is being an unbelievable ass to her.
- Bree choking Susan into unconsciousness was pretty funny. Both the victims so far have been redheads; maybe Bree has gone loco and is eliminating fellow gingers.
- Bree: A .38 special is a girl's best friend.
- Julie: I thought I'd dive into an old favorite.
Susan: And vice-versa, I'm sure. - Mike: I don't care enough about you to kill you.

The whole episode felt a little unbelievable (even more so than usual — and I love this show). Carlos was WAY over the top in his desire to fire Lynette. And Katherine? Seriously? Looks like we get a plane crash next week, that should calm things down! LOL
i actually thought this was one of their better episodes this season. contrived? yes, but it had all the right stuff that made DH a hit.
it's interesting to see how carlos's work ethics are. we never got to see much of that in past seasons. in season one he was kinda a douche, and now that we get a glimpse of how he really is in a working environment, it's actually believable. we're just so used to him being comic relief that we forgot that is a pretty aggressive person.
you know, all fingers are now pointing to emily's coworker as the murderer (now that that one dude who suspected him last week on this recap).
Maintenance of good skin.
Good to see you posting again.
I have to say as an HR professional, I kept screaming RETALIATION...PREGNANCY DISCRIMINATION...GENDER DISCRIMINATION...while DH takes place in an undisclosed state ("Eagle State"), Carlos behavior is federally illegal and it drives me nuts to watch...this is why I don't watch "The Office"...all in all, a great episode...loving the Bolens more with each episode...
I knew as soon as Mike took the knife out of Katherine's hands she would end up stabbing herself and setting him up. I used to love Katherine, but I'm at the point now I'm actually hoping they kill her off.
Not only did Lynette cry after she got fired, she promised she will not leave without causing trouble for the company...and good for her!
Part of me is almost happy to see the old dirtbag Carlos back though, because it feels like year one all over again...and we know that this will not last, given the friendship between the Scavos and Solises.
I hate what they have done to Katherine's character this season. She has survived a psycho-abusive husband, survived a cheating husband, and now she goes completely wacko over a man she clearly knew would return to the woman he loved and her friend.
She has added so much to the show in the past, and I have found the change in her character just too unbelievable with her past history. Also I have to side with Carlos in the Lynette situation. She started this situation, and he has a perfect right to his actions being betrayed and lied to by someone he considered such a close friend.
tmac: I agree about Lynette. Most seem to be on her side here, but she lied, and didn't tell him about the pregnancy so that she could get the promotion, even though, as Carlos pointed out, if she needed to be on bed rest and when she goes on Maternity leave, having someone in such a key role out temporarily could jeapoardize the company. If Lynette wanted to fight, she could've said she was pregnant from the beginning, when Carlos offered her the promotion and THEN sued him for discrimination if she didn't get it. She would even have the woman Carlos previously denied the promotion due to pregnancy back her up. It's the fact that she was dishonest about it from the beginning that irks me, and makes me feel like Carlos is in the right here.
Poor Dana Delaney, I wish she had better residuals from "China Beach" so she didn't have to play this crappy role. Katherine's turning into a later season of "Knots Landing" crazy.
