balthazargetty_brothersandsisters_290.jpgTonight on "Brothers & Sisters," Tommy comes back and is just as big a jerk as he always was, except right at the end.

Sarah
Sarah won't tell her kids about Sexy Luc yet and at the episode's Walker dinner, Paige spies her mother kissing Luc. Oopsy.

But it turns out Paige is totally cool with it and suggests Luc stay in the guest room. Grown-up Paige rocks. I hope Luc sticks around for Sarah, she deserves something awesome.

Kitty
Kitty and Nora have their very own Halloween-scare scene with Luc (which is hilarious, btw) when Tommy comes back to the house.

Kevin & Scotty

They're moving ahead with the surrogate and Kevin is all nervous about Scotty's friend Michelle.  Kevin busts out a contract and both Scotty and Michelle go nuts. Maybe it's the lawyer in me, but... seriously? OF COURSE there should be a contract. That girl is going to carry your BABY and from Michelle's perspective, those guys are going to pay you to be an incubator. There should BE a contract. Don't be stupid. I'm not always with Kevin on this show, but tonight I'm totally with Kevin.

They make it up later and talk about Kevin's tactless way of springing it on Scotty and Michelle. Ultimately Scotty says Kevin was right in wanting to protect them. Uh, duh. Welcome to the party, Scotty. They agree to find another surrogate but Kevin goes back to Michelle to beg her to reconsider and he explains that the signature on the contract makes him feel at least a little in control of not losing his child to someone. Awww. That's so totally fitting in with Kevin's personality, I love it.

Tommy

Tommy decides to drop back in on his family by sneaking into Nora's house in the middle of the night. The ensuing "burglar" scene is hilarious. Zen Tommy seems to be totally fine with living on a commune and being all crunchy granola, which is freaking everybody out.

It comes out that Julia has been dodging Nora's calls because she and Tommy are getting a divorce. Julia doesn't want Tommy in Elizabeth's life. Nora wants to help but Tommy wants to be left alone on it. Of course, it all comes out during the Walker family dinner and Tommy rails against Nora's expectations, which I don't think is fair. It's totally Nora's right to try to be in her granddaughter's life, Tommy's problems aside.

Nora talks to Kitty about how, growing up, she "gave Tommy away" to William because he was so close to his father and now that's what he's doing to Elizabeth. Kitty talks to Tommy and remarks, "I don't think we've had a dinner like that since the last time you were here." Uh, that's not true. You Walkers have a dinner like that about every other episode. Anyway, Kitty uses her cancer-as-dragging-her-away-from-Evan to guilt-trip Tommy into fighting to be in Elizabeth's life. Totally fair. Cancer trumps being a weirdo wuss in a commune. Tommy leaves at the end of the episode and says he'll come back any time Kitty needs him.

He and Nora have a moment when he reveals that he's headed to Seattle to try to be a father to Elizabeth. Oh yay. That's good.

Ojai Foods
Saul catches Ryan going through Holly's office after-hours and Ryan says he heard Holly taking off-the-books meetings and telling her secretary not to tell Saul or Sarah. Oh dear. Ryan, you little liar.

Later Ryan meets with the Dennis York again, this time to give York Holly's fianancial records. York is apparently in the know about the investment going bankrupt and thinks Holly will sell her Ojai shares.

Meanwhile, Sarah supports the cheap wine idea and gives Holly the green-light on going forward. Saul is still against it so Sarah and Saul want to oversee the project.

However, Holly gets shaken down by Dennis York to buy her shares of Ojai for double what they're worth. She passes (which surprises me) and when asked why she's still in bed with the Walkers, she gives a resounding no to selling. Way to go, Holly.

Thoughts & Tidbits
  • I love the vintage Walker phone tree that happens the morning after Tommy comes back. Adorable and hilarious.

  • The Nora comments about "giving Tommy away" were so interesting. My boyfriend and I got into a discussion about that phenomenon when we watched the "West Wing" episode "Ellie" because President Bartlet remarks that "Ellie always belonged to Abby." Kids belong to different parents and my boyfriend (as an only child) didn't understand that. But it totally happens.

  • Kevin: Remember that summer I spent in Oaxaca? I came back looking like I'd eaten an entire Backstreet Boy.
Scotty: I hope it wasn't Nick Carter, he's my favorite.

  • Paige: I thought it was weird there was a random French guy staying in Grandma's house.

  • Cooper: I don't wanna miss the fight.

Totally agree with you on everything. Having Tommy back was okay, at least it is realistic seeing that Kevin is having a kid, kitty has cancer, and etc.

Tommy has always been my least favorite Walker sib. Tommy returning home reminded me how much I haven't missed him. lol

I was completely on Tommy's side this episode. Nora needs to back off and let him solve his own problems. None of her reactions were about what Tommy, Julia and Elizabeth need or want - only what she did.

Kevin was completely in the right, and it seemed unrealistic for Scotty and Michelle to be so against the idea of a contract.

And, uh, I think you mean Oaxaca, not 'Wahaca'.

T., I tried to hear what he said and when I googled my best guess, Wahaca, Mexico came up. Thank you for the correction, I could NOT understand what he said. I'll fix.

I don't care what anyone says, I want Tommy back and the family dynamic to go back to normal...and i feel we're not too far away from that happening, even if Tommy and Julia do go through with the divorce.

I also want Tommy back for good. This episode reminded me of the original chemistry the family had. Since Tommy left, the show has just not been the same. The family is incomplete, and the dinners and arguments are lacking. Tommy might not be the funnest sibling, but his conflicted personality is needed to balance the clan. His scenes with Norah and Kitty were phenomenal. I was in tears the whole time. Please bring him back for good!!!

I'm torn on the Tommy issue, tonight was one of my least favorite episodes from the season so far, but if Julia and Elizabeth came back I think it would provide some good storylines for Tommy's return.

I'm actually beginning to like that Michelle girl, I think it will be interesting to see how this works out!

I'm interested to see how Dennis is going to stay involved now that Holly is shutting him out...

Kevin's tactlessness combined with his snarking were the problem. Once Scotty calmed down he agreed, but I'd be pissed too. I identify with Kevin and he's lucky to have Scotty.

Loved the 'gave you to William' bit, so fits with how they've portrayed the characters and that totally happens. It's really not fun to be the one they both give away though.

I think I'd like Tommy back too. I find that while I don't always miss Tommy, per se, I do feel that the brother/sisterly dynamic is off since he's been gone.

And while Sally Field is awesome in her role, I want more scenes where the kids call Nora on her stuff. Nora is a loving mother and a good person. But she's also manipulative, needy and selfish. I was fuming when she spilled everything at dinner. Just once can't she butt out? Her 'rights' as a grandparent don't trump what the actual parents want - even if they don't know what they want, or she thinks they're making the wrong decisions.

The episode ended really sadly to me with her "I guess I'll see you when I see you..." and Tommy just walking out without a hug or kiss. I think he should come back just to continue this new/old fractured relationship with Nora. The series started with this supposed big beef between Kitty and Nora, but that was quickly resolved. People sometimes have lifelong issues with family members, so seeing them deal with it over the long haul might be interesting.

Norah! What's up with the pork roast..? You are an enlightened earth mother who makes green drinks in the blender..Was it really Tommy's favorite? He seemed happy to whip up some mole for the group..
When the evil heavy guy asked Holly why she was still in bed with the Walkers..and made a few comments like that, why did she not immeiately think of the fact that her daughter is going to marry a Walker and they are her family..especially since she and Norah have come to terms with each other since the kids announced their plans to marry..I don't think Holly even remembered that she will soon be part of the Walker family as an in-law..UNLESS..she did not want to share that information with a man who he dislikes and distrusts. It is jarring to have Ryan appear suddenly nosing around Ojai files..He reappears then vanishes..He looked kind of cute..Better hair style helped..Paige is an awesome little girl..Her brief appearances are magical..
Glad Tommy is back ..Looking great..There must have been a health spa in Mexico
