'Brothers & Sisters': Rebecca's pregnant!
Tonight on "Brothers & Sisters," there's a new Walker on the way!Nora & Cute Doctor Guy
Nora is trying to deal with donations being down at her cancer center but can't concentrate because Kitty is considering alternative medicine instead of chemo and she doesn't want anyone's help. Nora ends up making a new "friend" named Simon Craig. He's a volunteer, a doctor and quite handsome, so you go with your cougar-self, Nora Walker. He takes her for a ride on his motorcycle. Because she needs a cooooool rider, a coooool rider. If he's cool enough he can burn her through and through.
He assures her that everyone threatens to quit chemo at some point but that almost everyone goes back. He says that she shouldn't quit chemo, but that belief in the power to change things might be just what she needs. At the Open Doors benefit that night, Simon asks Nora out. Woo woo.
Kitty & Robert
A total right-wing lunatic is entering the Republican primary for the Governor of California, who accuses Robert of being too liberal. Robert gives him a talking-to that makes me think Aaron Sorkin wrote this episode. I heart Sam Seaborne.
Meanwhile, Nora calls in Sarah for reinforcements with Kitty, who immediately goes after Kitty to talk about it. Apparently Kitty ran into a woman who had her type of Lymphoma and is in complete remission after using the power of her mind and alternative medicines. It sounds a lot like the whole Suzanne Somers thing.
Sarah helps Kitty get all dolled up for the Open Doors benefit and Nora crashes the facial party. Nora and Sarah go off to talk about it, but Kitty overhears and tells them to leave her alone. At the benefit, Kitty's hair starts to fall out.
Nora follows her into the bathroom and Kitty cries. Sarah then busts her way in and sees Kitty's bald patch. They fix her hair and she and Robert go home. The next morning, she shaves her head. Man, you should really have taken that hair to Locks of Love. I suppose that wouldn't be as dramatic. When she comes out, Nora and Sarah help her try on wigs.
Kevin & Scotty
Scotty's father stops by, dressed as Cluv the Crusader for a comic convention. He has to tell Scotty that his mother left him. Scotty's worried it happened because he's gay, but his dad assures him they just drifted apart. Scotty then tells his dad about the surrogacy and he's happy for them.
When Scotty and Kevin go to his dad's hotel to pick him up, they spy him chatting up a pretty blonde lady. Kevin has to run off because Robert's tirade was caught on camera. When Wally has to make an excuse to go upstairs, he has to confess that he's been seeing blonde lady for awhile. Her name is Moira and that's why Scotty's mom left. Scotty storms off.
Meanwhile, Kevin thinks Robert's tirade might now give his opponent in the primary some teeth. Robert says he won't disavow what he said.
The next day, Scotty realizes that he doesn't care his father had an affair because he knew his mom was hard. He just wishes his dad had learned to care about himself sooner. Kevin assures him that HIS father "took care" of himself all the time and it didn't make it better. A package arrives, it's Wally's Captain America comic from the 1940s. It's for Scotty and Kevin to help pay for the baby. Awwww.
Rebecca & Justin
Rebecca has been in bed for a week because she "had the flu." Justin keeps trying to diagnose her because he's all worried and a shiny new med student but she says she's fine. Except she's all nauseous and her sense of smell is off, so... Rebecca's preggers. And right at the end of the episode, Justin apologizes for trying to diagnose Rebecca and says he can't imagine having a baby right now. Which is Rebecca's cue to look at a pregnancy test. Where did that come from? How did Justin not see it in her hand? This whole storyline tonight was so predictable and lame.
Thoughts & Tidbits
- That's exciting, two new babies (once Kevin and Scotty get going).
- Don't sell the comic book! Keep it, because it's worth more than money.
- Rachel Griffiths looked just a dish in that purple dress at the benefit, beautiful.

Is there a chance that Saul will have a tiny bit of plot this year?
So far I lost count of the chances gone totally amiss (starting with the ep with IDA)
Agreed, Stef. Saul NEEDS a real storyline.
Unless this Rebecca pregnancy goes in a totally unexpected way, it may just be the last straw for me. Completely predictable, lame and contrived Drama-with-a-capital-D. She's not a horrible actress, so I don't see why they saddle her with these plots. I'd much rather they focus on one baby story a season, thanks. The K/S plot is unique storytelling, politically and culturally important, and deserves sole attention.
Kitty losing and later shaving her hair was very emotionally powerful.
Again - thanks for spoilering a story in your link to the blog zap2it ! Some of us DO want to read other things so do come to your site, but aren't ready to know other things yet !
So since we have complained about this for years and nothing has changed - guess what you are saying is that we can stop reading your contect altogether.
Andrea, I so knew someone would yell at you for putting that spoiler in the headline. I really don't know why people even go to zap2it unless they've already seen the show... just in case.
Anyhoo, a pretty good ep and like Nora's new boy. All the scenes with Kitty were terrific and the head shaving part was very emotional. Oh, and I really liked that red Asian-swoop skirt dress she had on. Why would Sarah bash it?? It was prettier than that fuchsia thing she ended up wearing.
Loved that Scotty's dad sent them his Captain America comic collectible. Very touching.
And Rebecca being pregs? Soooo predictable. And I so knew she was holding that test strip. I too wondered, how the heck didn't Justin see her holding that?? Whatever... at least the writers can't throw this one "under the rug" like they did with Rebecca's weird personality disorder which was the finale of last season.
Ally- I'm still upset that they brought up "Rebecca is crazy" thing and then dropped it.
It is odd that they want to pregnancy story lines on the show at once- maybe Rebecca will miscarriage? (I'm not hoping for that... it's just a thought).
I'm glad to see B&S having some patience with story lines. They aren't rushing through things as they have in the past, and it allows us viewers to become more emotionally invested.
I just had another thought as well, what if NORA ends up getting married one of these seasons... how would that be?
I take it they've dropped the "Rebecca's personality disorder" plot line for good, but since it had a really prominent spot in last season's finale, I *really* wish they'd bring it back up again - if only to just wrap it in a pretty bow and put it to rest once and for all.. Because all I think about when I see Rebecca now is "when is she going to go crazy?"
And yeah, why two baby stories? Not cool. Just follow Kevin and Scotty on their journey.
Actually, I didn't think about Rebecca's hands and why didn't Justin see the test strip - I think I figured she had her hands behind her back, but now I want to rewatch the scene to see if it just materialized.
When I think of how awesome Ron Rifkin was on Alias, I'm really annoyed that Saul has absolutely nothing to do on this show.
I was SO happy for Scotty to have something to do that didn't involve the Walkers! I hope they keep his dad around just so he can have scenes with someone else.
Something that keeps bugging me is Kevin's hair - it's gotten super big and fro-like lately... I understand it's curly, but they need to tame that a little more, it just makes him look even more different than the rest of the sibs who do not have curly hair...
And speaking of hair, wow on the hair shaving for Kitty.
Oh, and I like Simon; it's time for Nora to date someone again. And a real relationship - not just a thrown together one like with Danny Glover thing...
Thanks for throwing in a random Grease 2 reference.
With regard to the pregnancy test, I felt like Rebecca had it in her pocket and pulled it out to look at it.
Finally, Locks of Love is a wonderful charity that helps a lot of kids feel better, but they do sell or throw away a lot of the hair they receive, and most recipients have lost their hair because of reasons other than cancer treatment. If any readers are interested in donating hair, check out the various organizations out there so you can pick the one that best fits your wishes. And make sure you follow the guidelines to the letter so that your hair will be used in the manner you intend.
Is Emily Vancamp pregnant? Her face just looked a lot fuller...maybe the storyline was just working its magic on me.
It would be interesting if Rebecca gets rid of the baby because she realizes that Justine has a point. Then it is discovered at the wedding, what she did, and he leaves her.
That would be an interesting plot development.
Loved the episode, so powerful so emotional... Kitty shaving her head made me cry remember she said "i love my hair" in the second episode. I love seeing Roberts care and concern more for Kitty than his ambition. Kevin does a great job protecting Robert. Love the part when Kevin about to leave and sees Wally in his costume, so funny. Always the best Kitty/Nora moment even the moment with Sarah was emotional sisters bonding. Thank God no Ryan and Holly. Rebecca being pregnant-- so I guess no wedding in Hawaii? So predictable, it happened in Season2 when Kitty kept the secret being pregnant, she had a miscarriage. Love B&S can not wait till next episode.
