'The Amazing Race': Lance and Keri out of their minds, but not the race
Things still seemed different this week on "The Amazing Race." When the episode began, the Pitstop was moving. Oh sure, it was a boat, and it was better that it was moving after everyone was on it rather than it having been a moving target for them last week, but it was weird.Once everyone got off the boat they had to head to Ho Chi Minh City, which is where they first arrived in Vietnam before heading to the village where the boat was. I'm hoping that the boat moving made it easier for the teams to get back to Ho Chi Minh, and the fact that it was only a two hour cab ride instead of what appeared to be a long bus ride seemed to indicate that it was closer. Of course, they didn't actually get off the boat in Ho Chi Minh, which some of the teams had a tough time believing (didn't their instructions say "take a cab...").
The Globetrotters, still my favorite team, reached the water puppet theater first - a place I just have to visit. I don't quite get what, if any, the cultural significance of the water puppets was, but they were awesome. And seeing the racers get soaking wet and begging the dragons to come close to them was great.
Also great - Lance & Keri got the clue, but couldn't work out that they did. Smaht lions, those people. I shudder to think what would happen if they were in charge of the pride. Even if they didn't have they accent they'd still rub me the wrong way with their stressed out yelling. At one point tonight it sounded like Lance said to Keri "I'm all done with you," because they couldn't figure out where they were going. I don't know about you, but I'm all done with them.
Flight Time & Big Easy were still in first place as they started the Detour, and they were not only smart enough to choose the easier one, it involved pulling a heavy animal statue through a park, but also chose what seemed to be the lightest of the heavy animals. Marcy & Ronald chose the Detour that required them to go hunt for a hotel, and then to find random letters on various vehicles down below in a traffic circle, and then to rely on the kindness of strangers to solve their word puzzle. That's how you get eliminated, people, especially when you skip that last part and try to spell words in a foreign language you don't know all by yourself. What were they thinking?
It is true that they could have been safe because you also get eliminated when your dolly breaks, which is what happened to Tiffany & Maria; and you also get eliminated when you break your giraffe, which is what happened to Zev & Justin, but Ronald & Marcy's odds still didn't look good after those things took place.
Was it just me or was the editing tonight a little schizophrenic? We were jumping back and forth between tons of teams for very brief periods, and by the time we got to the Roadblock, we actually hadn't seen the Globetrotters for quite a while. Magically, they were no longer as far in the lead as they last appeared to be, but they still finished destroying their VCRs first and made it to the Pitstop at the Reunification Palace first. Meghan and Cheyne were right behind them though, literally. There was a sprint to the finish and even though Cheyne came in first, Meghan came in fourth, allowing the Globetrotters to chalk up a "W."
Marcy & Ronald - all the "could have been safe" moments weren't enough to help them. They chose the wrong Detour, and I don't think they lost by much, but they did lose. And I so wanted Lance & Keri to go home.
Odds and ends:
- I can't believe they gave Lance credit for taking apart the VCRs. Wasn't the task to do it so that the pieces were reusable? His weren't.
- If I was a kid, I wouldn't accept the broken giraffe to play with in my park, but maybe that's just my Western Imperialist talking.
- You know which team I hate the most at this point, but I'd love to hear which ones are on your list (not that I'll waver in my convictions).

I thought for sure lance would get a penalty for just destroying those VCRs. It was supposed to be about reusing parts and just destroyed the thing. IT wasn't called break the things as fast as you can.
Yes Lance needs to go, they didn't understand any of the clues, they're jerks and letting him just destroy the parts can't possibly have been adequate for the purpose.
Maria was a lazy cow as well. I don't like them.
I really did like Marcy and Ron, they had a good attitude. It wasn't the detour itself, they actually did most of it faster than the physical task except they refused to ask for help. That was weird, the clue Phil read seemed clear.
I do like several of the other teams trotters, sandiegans, brothers and team zebra managed to make 'team zebra' endearing.
Thanks for sharing this reality story with me.

i think the teams have to choose the detour based on a often-rhyming clue ('child's play' or 'word play') or the road block simply on a broadly worded question (something like 'who's good with their hands?' for the vcr recyling task)
or do they get to see the whole clue ? that could be editing to move the show along.
I, too, so wanted Lance & Keri to go home. They are my least favorite team; although, it's mostly him I don't like. It's hard to believe he's a lawyer. Also on my list are Tiffany & Maria and Brian & Ericka. I will say, Brian & Ericka totally rocked the Detour and really worked well together this episode, so more performances like that could get them off my list. Sad to see Ron & Marcy gone, but I agree with Kev, if they would've just asked for help with the word right away they probably would've been fine. I'm happy the Globetrotters came in first, I like them.
if Lance actually IS a lawyer, he's probably of the "public defendant" variety, when you can't afford a REAL one. snerk
Dear World:
Please know that Boston is not full of idiots no matter what reality television would like you to think. Some of us even pronounce our "R"s.
And I think that all they really had to do with the VCRs is take the cover off, put the wires in one pile and the 'boards in another.
Yeah, the editing was frenetic, but it sure heightened the tension.
Lance shouldn't have been allowed to just destroy the VCRs. The Roadblock was supposed to be about dismantling the VCRs for recycling.
Get rid of Maria and keep Tiffany. She's the one doing all the work.
Did Canaan really say "son of a bitch"? Oh, my.
Too bad about Marcy & Ron. I kept thinking, "Didn't the instructions tell them to get help from the locals to descramble the letters? What on earth are they doing?"
Don't be hating on Brian & Ericka. They went from last to 4th, play well together, and are smart enough to join forces with other teams when it makes sense to do so.
I couldn't stop laughing at whatever couple it was that started dancing to try to get the puppets to give them the clue.
Marcy is an annoying, know-it-all ding bat. She was so harsh to Ron for no reason at all.
I can not stand Zev's voice! It is so high pitched and irritating.
Love the Globetrotters!
