'FlashForward': Simon (Dominic Monaghan) reveals his future
Tonight, "FlashForward" figured out how to do a Halloween episode. It wasn't like anything was really spooky, at least not more than usual, but it took place on Halloween, so that kind of counts.
Rather than really liking the Halloween stuff, I preferred the fact that we got some more of Simon. He may be a bad guy, but he's great fun to watch, and he showed us all a great way to get women: Look at one on a train, have her say something to mock you and then tell her to do an image search for "quantum physicist genius" on her phone, because it's your picture that pops up.
Simon is still definitely a mystery. There he was, still in bed with the woman, and he told her that he killed someone in his flashforward. Who does that? Was he telling the truth? And, why, after he did that, did he disappear for almost the rest of the episode? Don't we deserve more than just a few moments of Simon near the beginning and end of an episode?
We also got more on the Blue Hand people this week, mostly due to Demetri's dogged persistence on going after the folks who hurt Janis. I like the fact that that he's going after the baddies and all, but maybe he ends up dead because he doesn't sleep and his reaction times drop significantly. He should have been dead tired after last week's grenade incident.
I was intrigued about Demetri's argument with Al over whether they should be heading to Baltimore St. in L.A. to find Blue Hand folks or if they should be going to Baltimore, Maryland. I wonder if Demetri being right means that the show was in some way trying to save fictional FBI money by not wanting the guys to have to fly anywhere this week. Whatever the case, the Blue Hand group was in fact in Los Angeles, and by tracking them, Demetri and Al found a bunch of dead bodies and the opening of the Rutherford case that we heard about during Al's flash.
As for the best moment of the night, that was Dylan showing up at the Benford's and being followed by Lloyd and then Olivia. This may sound odd, but I wonder if the marriage has not actually broken up by the time the flash rolls around, if maybe they're all just living together because Olivia wanted to keep a closer eye on Dylan... and Lloyd. You know, they could have some sort of new-fangled, experimental, open sort of relationship going on. Maybe Olivia just calls everyone "honey."
Okay, that's all farfetched, right? I don't know why I'm against the Benfords being broken up, but I definitely am. Even Olivia and Mark appear to be wavering on the whole marriage thing - Olivia hiding Dylan being back on her team and Mark only now copping to drinking in his flashforward. Those two have some definite issues to work out, but if the future is any indication, they'll be parting ways instead. Olivia was absolutely right: They don't trust each other anymore.
Quick flashes:- Simon seems to be a Scotch guy. I love that.
- The double-slit experiment -- as I understand it -- helps proves light is both a particle and a wave (or at the very least has properties of both).
- Janis Hawk proved to be alive this week. You weren't really surprised by that, were you? As I said last week, it's not like they were going to reveal the visions to be untrue at this point. That means that "almost impossible" for her to have a baby is not the same as "impossible."
- I get where Mark was coming from chasing the guys with the masks, but it would seem to me that anyone who launches a raid on an FBI building does it in a mask they've never used before (unless they're with Patrick Swayze, because then it's a signature move).
- Why did Wedeck apologize to Mark for yelling at him last week? Wedeck was pissed because Mark was drunk during his flashforward and Wedeck staked his career, reputation, livelihood, you name it, on Mark's flashforward. Wedeck should have been pissed.
- So, "we" are all worried about Lloyd, are "we?" I wonder who the "we" Simon mentioned are.
The TV and Film Guy's Reviews - we never particularly liked Halloween.

Nice recap. This was my favorite episode of the series so far. I think Dominic Monaghan is a great edition to the cast, and Simon is a very interesting character. I think he gives the show direction, kind of like the Henry Gale (Ben) character did in season 2 of Lost. I also really liked the scenes with Olivia and Mark, their characters are finally being fleshed out to more than just delivering cliches and one liners, and into characters you can care about.
not liking the way the actress is playing Olivia. her eyes are kinda crazy!
good thanx...
I definitely agree that this was the best episode so far. I have been waiting for months for Dom Monaghan to show up! I was not disappointed with his flash forward-- I can't wait to find out more about his character, and how his experiment involved Lloyd!
And kudos to the kid who plays Dylan-- he's cute and he can act. I laughed at his Halloween costume, but I thought the writers missed an opportunity for an inside joke. Lloyd should have said that the only costume he could find at the last minute was Johnny Depp's "Jack Sparrow" costume. Then Lloyd could have told Dr. Varley that he always hated pirates! **HA-HA!** ;-)
Well, you would think, based on how Olivia's flashforward goes, the marriage would have been broken up long before that happened. Lloyd seemed awfully comfortable in the house, and Charlie was telling Dylan it was his house, too. Clearly, both Olivia and Charlie are over Mark, and one would guess they don't bother with Mark since he appears obsessed over solving April 29th.
Im not sure why charlie said D gibbons is bad when in her flash forward she looks happy...i mean how much more could have happened in her 2 minutes that would make her think things were so bad in the future
I think this show is losing me - it's - I don't know. I've watched every episode and think I know what's going on and then there's a night like last night....
I have to tell you that if Olivia wants to ditch their marriage based on the FF, then she doesn't care that much. Who DOES that?
I'm really getting to where I don't care about this show - I didn't even care enough to vote in the poll.
I can't see Simon as anybody but Charlie......
The look on Olivia's face when she walked into the house and saw Dylan and Lloyd was perfect. Kudos to Sonya Walger.
The best moment was the Kangaroo jumping down the street
and the little girl saying "that's the best costume ever!"
also
if Simon was telling the girl about the FF, does that mean
he wasn't the one walking around at the ball park??
and
everyone one is assuming Olivia is saying "honey" to Lloyd, when she
could possibly be saying it to Dylan!!
just saying!!!
I'm with Jan. Something about this show is just not working for me. I don't like any of the characters particularly Dylan and Olivia, but I think Demetri might be the most annoying.
I keep watching hoping something will grab me but it hasn't. I think I'll give it one more week and then I'm deleting it from my season pass.
