'The Biggest Loser' Premiere: A round of Second Chances for everybody!
Welcome to 'The Biggest Loser': Second Chances. In case you missed it the first time, this season is all about second chances. The producers are going to run this theme into the ground, aren't they?
This year, none of the contestants are related/married/friends or acquaintances. They're all strangers. Which is an interesting dynamic we haven't seen in a few seasons. But before we really get to know their back stories, Alison Sweeney flags down the bus to a sexy beach in Malibu for their first challenge. What? Already?
The Challenge
We haven't even weighed in yet, but we might as well see who's in the best shape of the obese people. Which is kind of ironic. Alison reminds us about the oh-so-amazing marathon that Top 4 completed last season. Well, they won't have to do anything so difficult yet. It's just a mile. Anyone can walk a mile, right?
Apparently not so much. Daniel, who is back after losing, like, an entire person last season, was the first to cross the finish line. It's not surprising because he had months more cardio training than everyone else. He wins immunity and first choice of a teammate. Everyone else files in shortly thereafter. Except for Tracy. She's a Texan hot-head who thought for a short time that she could outrun Daniel. The result: being airlifted off the beach by a helicopter. Yeah, perhaps you shouldn't try to push yourself too hard in the first week. Just sayin'.
The rest of the gang makes it back to the ranch in one piece. Everyone sits around the campfire roasting marshmallows and telling their tales of woe. They've all had a hard time in life, but no one compares to Abby. She's a woman who lost her husband, 5-year-old, and 2-week-old baby in a car accident. I don't care what you say... you all cried too.
The First Weigh-In
Now that we've gotten to know each other, the teams are chosen. And it's straight to the weigh-in!
Team Orange: Daniel (312) and Shay (476) *The biggest man and woman in the history of the show
Team Green: Allen (325) and Abby (247)
Team Pink: Amanda (250) and Rebecca (279)
Team Blue: Rudy (442) and Dina (253)
Team Red: Antoine (367) and Sean (444)
Team Brow: Liz (267) and Danny (430)
Team Black: Alexandria (309) and Julio (407)
Team Purple: Mo and Tracy *Neither weighed in due to hospitalization
These guys are pretty big. Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels are shocked. SHOCKED, I say! They've never seen so many people over the 400-pound mark. The looks on their faces could be described by one word: Oy.
The Workouts
Since Bob and Jillian are joining forces like an extremely sexy and kick-ass superhero duo, all the contestants will feel the wrath of both trainers. This is not going over so well. Now instead of one person calling them names and screaming in their face, it's two people. As per usual, the workouts were littered with vomit, sweat, and moans of "I caaaaaaaan't!" Shay was officially the first person to give up, sob off-camera, and come back to the party. And remember the tales of woe? Yeah, um, Jillian doesn't give a crap. So don't bother.
The Weigh-In
Tracy has yet to be seen. What a sweet deal. She got to chill out in a hospital bed all week and she doesn't even have to get weighed. Instead, Mo had to weigh in alone as the Team Purple consul. Week one always boasts some major weight loss. Rudy was the week's biggest loser, with a whopping 28 pounds. That's not just major; that's mayjah! Amanda, who was America's choice, only lost six. But it was enough to keep her team from under the yellow line. Falling under this week was Team Black.
Alexandria and Julio both dropped 13 pounds, even though he had an extra c-note on her. Cue the violins: Julio whines about his family and asks for a reprieve. The others fall for it hook, line, and sinker. But it all worked out. Alexandria went home and dropped some poundage. And not only that, but she revealed that she had a crush on someone in the house! Let the speculation begin.

What happened to the gal who used to write the recaps? Was her name Sarah? She was always so funny! Oh well, I liked the show just fine. I fast forwared thru alot with my DVR. I liked Abby, Mo and Daniel! Everyone else was fine too so far. Looks to be a good season.
PLEASE NBC!!! STOP WITH THE VOMIT SHOTS!!! The sound effects are more than enough for me to figure it out.
I thought the medical routine they did this time was very interesting. I don't know if I believe that everyone had "how they were helping humanity" as their first thought but it was very informative and kept my interest. I still like the old host. I would think the contestants wouldn't want to stand next to "Barbie" either.
I was wondering about the diet that first week. THey usually approach the statement of diet(and product placement) on the third or fourth ep, but does anyone know if they are put on a strict diet as well to drop such large numbers the first week?
when you are 400lbs, you do a bit of exercise and you could drop 10 lbs easy. its all water at this point.
First things first, I don't think its fair that Dan came back! The other players are lazy snack-bad food eating people who do not exercise(I am 1 of those type of people). Dan has had a year to at least get into the groove of things, was it a surprise he won the race? This looks promising, we will have big weight loss numbers like last season. Probably more records broken.I hope Shay remains on the show at least to gain the skills to help her in her day to day life. Its the first episode so I have no favorites yet.
The only way to watch this show is with a DVR..you can fastforward through the 90 minutes or so of fluff and watch the stuff that really matters. My "bad guy" so far is Julio who completely turned me off with his comment that he promised himself he would change when he turned 40. When did he make this promise...when he was 30??? How lame. And then he whines and complains and acts all dramatic during the workouts. Enough already, be gone with you. And Abby, her story is heartbreaking and I can't imagine what she has been through, but how many times an episode are we going to hear the story? I'm already tired of it.
I do miss the person who used to write the recaps!! I think she did a little blurb on each person, it was hilarious. It helped me to keep everyone straight. Good recap though :)
I would Like to be able to become an contestant on the biggest loser me and my B.F.F that means me and my best friend forever would like to be able to become an contestant on the biggest loser and don't know how to apply please help thank you so much.Tina Coonce
I miss Sarah's recaps! They were so good!
