supernatural_s2_240.jpgLeave it to 'Supernatural' to pick up exactly where they left us at the end of season 5 - with the Winchester brothers in the abandoned convent, a portal to hell opening at their feet and the knowledge that they are about to meet Lucifer and unmake the world.

At least, that's where they start. A moment later, they are at a cruising altitude of 30,000 feet, somewhere over Baltimore. Until a light cuts through the sky from below, the plane lurches and the oxygen masks come down. Did they escape certain doom only to face...certain doom? Though we don't see it, the plane apparently lands fine because soon enough the brother are off to find Castiel.

They go to Chuck's house and find it destroyed. Chuck is alive, bus Castiel is in chunks strewn across his living room. Zachariah appears with some henchman and welcomes Sam and Dean back into the fold. Unfortunately for him, they have no intention of folding. Instead, Dean shows his hand - bloody and slapping onto the same symbol we saw Castiel use to take out some angels last season.

Sam makes up some hex bags with the tricks he learned from Ruby. He tries to talk to his brother about how things went down and how sorry he is, but it's not a conversation Dean is interested in having. Instead, he wants to find the Devil. Apparently, he needs to look in Delaware because that's where we meet Nick. Nick is a man suffering from visions attached to the loss of his wife and baby son that include waking up in a pool of blood, his dead wife telling him he's special and blood pouring out of the crib while he listens to a baby cry.

The only thing that could possibly be worse than contemplating a brutal end for such a family is being confronted with the reality of incestuous Winchester brother FanFic. It's wrong wrong wrong and it's being written by Becky - the biggest fan "Carver Edlund" has. Luckily he interrupts her via webcam before she gets into too much detail about her penny dreadful prose. He tells her he needs her help to get a message to Sam. In a scene lifted from Galaxy Quest, she austerely tells him she knows the books are fiction and she doesn't appreciate being mocked. Yet, when he tells her it's all real, she triumphantly shrieks "I KNEW IT"!

At the motel, Sam answers the door to find a transfixed Becky who can't keep her hands off him as she tells them that they need to find the archangel Michael's sword. She tells them that it's in a castle on a hill made of 42 dogs. Bobby arrives to help them figure out what that means, but when Sam reveals that the breaking of the last seal was all his fault, Bobby reads him the riot act and tells him that if they make it out of this alive, he wants nothing to do with him ever again.

Sam goes out to do some research on his own, so he misses when Dean figures out that Michael's sword is in their dad's space at Castle Storage, located at 42 Rover Hill. He also misses Bobby's eyes turning black as Dean reveals the location to him, as well as the fight that ensues after Meg returns with some henchmen of her own. She notes that Bobby is still awake and she wants him to know what it's like to stab Dean, but instead Bobby stabs himself as Sam bursts in and help Dean overcome the demons. Even without his special vanquishing powers.

They take Bobby to the ER and then run off to the storage unit, hoping to get there before the demons. When they arrive, they are met by some dead bodies as well as Zachariah and a few back up angels. They don't want the angels to have the sword anymore than the demons, but it turns out that's not too big a problem. The sword is more a metaphor for the vessel that Michael can take. And that vessel is Dean.

Zachariah tries to force him into accepting his role an an "angel condom" by giving him stomach cancer and taking Sam's lungs away. Which is a pretty convincing argument but not as convincing as Castiel's. Yes, you heard right, our favorite angel appears to dole out some smiting of his own. He drops the news that the angels were not responsible for the Winchesters getting on the plane, nor for him surviving. So who IS? Someone who scares the heck out of Zachariah, because rather than cross the almighty, he puts the boys back together and gets the heck out of dodge. Castiel brands the brother's ribs and then takes off before they can get any more information out of him.

Back in Delaware, Lucifer appears to Nick in the form of his wife. The Morning Star gives a convincing argument for getting justice from a God that showed no care to him when he allowed his family to be slaughtered and soon enough Nick is agreeing to let Lucifer take him over. In the hospital, Bobby apologizes to Sam and tell him he will never cut him out of his life. It would have been a nice way to end the episode, but Supernatural likes to twist the knife. Thus, we end with Dean telling Sam he doesn't think he can ever forgive or trust him again after he chose Ruby over him.

The Funny:

Dean: How did we end up on Soul Plane?

Chuck: I have a molar in my hair. This has been a really stressful day.

Sam: Becky...can you quit touching me?
Becky: No.

Lucifer: I'm not your wife. I'm an angel. My name is Lucifer.
Nick: Suuure. Naturally. Could you do me a favor there, Satan, and remind me to quit drinking before I go to bed?

Was it the premiere you hoped for? Will the brothers ever repair their relationship? What did Meg mean when she told the brothers that all the demons in hell were dreaming again?

I feel sorry for folks that don't watch this show, for one reason or another. It is arguably one of the best shows on TV right now, after so many great shows ended in the last couple of years. Another strong start, and a lot of intriguing storylines out there.

I'm fascinated by the Castiel storyline. If you can get over their discussions on God, Heaven, Hell, Lucifer, and so forth, this is actually a fascinating show about human character and about understanding identity.

Anyhow, a solid start, can't wait.

Terrific episode, and it left me wanting more. So much happened, I'm going to have to watch it a couple more times to catch everything. What a task... LOL But seriously, if anyone isn't watching, they're missing out!

Really, I'm appalled that no one in my friend's dorm decided to watch with me. It's not a great show. It's an AMAZING SHOW! Picking right off of the finale, they just went on and on. Of course Michael's sword is not really a sword. It's DEAN! Makes sense. Mark Pellgrino was also incredibly amazing, Castiel FIANLLY kicked butt, and Becky was just goodness all rolled into one. I even kind of sound like her now! Cannot wait! If there is a show that's doing a brother built for evil and a brother build for good right this is it.

I'm so glad Bobby apologized for what the demon told Sam. I really didn't want Bobby and Sam's friendship to be fractured, especially since the brother's relationship is hanging in the balance.

I liked the scene when Becky met Sam, the dialogue in that scene was hilarious.

I also liked Castiel's new attitude.

Great start to another season of one of my favorite shows.

Great balance of: exposition (without making it boring); setting up the new season; setting up roles for the new season for the major players - and even some of the minor players like Carver; setting up the conflict between Dean and Sam; and introducing some new characters i.e. Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) and I'm sure later in this season Michael.

Liked some of the callbacks to past seasons as well such as the reference to The Colt.

Will miss the old car. Seeing the digital radio was rather jarring.

Also liked how the majority of the 2nd half of the ep wasn't heavy on action sequences, but more about story and setup.

Looks like Supernatural didn't suffer from the Summer blues and we've gotten off to a great start. Truly one of the 2 or 3 best shows on network television right now (along with Lost and Chuck).

way to be original. Fans has been talking about how Dean will be angel Michael vessel. Kripke read fanfics afterall. And now Supernatural become a joke.

Excellent season opener. A little laughter, a little angst, a little action...well done! And, um, I'd also wouldn't be able to stop touching Sam! LOL!

Cant wait for next thursday, this season will be everything us fans have been waiting for,I skipped football to watch my show, and i love football.

Love this show, but didn't think this episode flowed as well as it could have. The plane scene was silly. And why did Chuck have to relay his message through a fan? Couldn't he have contacted Sam the same way? If someone was watching him, then they would have seen him contact her too. Also, maybe Sam did cause Lucifer to rise by breaking the last seal, but Dean broke the first one that started it all. He has no reason to blame Sam for anything.

I love SUPERNATURAL but I didn't love this episode. Agree with other poster who said that the writing was a little disjointed. Also, I couldn't help but compare this episode to last season's opener (Dean back from hell and the introduction of Castiel), which I thought was a stellar episode.

Best parts of this episode were the little moments: Becky touching Sam (great actress, I couldn't stop laughing), Dean's lines about being on the Soul Plane and the angel condom. Also loved Castiel kicking ass. Speaking of which, is Castiel really a regular angel or is Castiel THE angel, i.e the archangel Michael? Rather strange that Chuck saw him get killed only to have Cas reappear in his fine looking Misha Collins meatsuit. Not that I'm complaining or anything. :)

There were some huge things that just didn't seem logical to me. For example, Bobby getting possessed by a demon? After all his years of hunting he gets possessed? Yeah, right.

2). Chuck communicating with Becky via webcam because he's being watched by the angels. OK...so the angels don't know how to monitor the Internet?

3). Nick as the choice for Lucifer's vessel. Maybe there needed to be more time spent with Nick in his day-to-day life but I wasn't convinced that he was so permanently damaged that much in his real life to be so easily duped by the devil. Yeah, Nick had suffered a terrible tragedy but he wasn't an alcoholic, drug addict or living what looked like a hopeless life, so it just wasn't believable to me when Lucifer made that little speech and Nick was like, yeah, you can take over my body. That whole part just seemed rushed and kind of half-baked. I think that it would've worked better if they had thrown in one or two more scenes of Nick outside of his house, out in the real world and unable to connect with people or getting rejected or abused by other people or something to show how f-ed up his life was. The way it was set up, it just seemed like Nick was a lonely guy.
