'NCIS': Ziva, Gibbs and Vance talk about the future

We knew that Ziva was alive and back in the States as of the end of the last episode of "NCIS," what we didn't know was whether or not she was going to be part of the team again. Except, of course, that she was definitely going to be, whether or not the show wanted to make it explicit last week.

Agent Fillmore was in Ziva's chair at the beginning of the episode, but she quickly resigned, and did so in excellent fashion. Everyone on the show is so quirky and hysterical, that it all completely works as television but is obviously foolish as reality. Fillmore called them on their foolishness, it won't change them - it shouldn't, that would be horrible - but it was nice to see the reality check and a good way for Fillmore to exit Ziva's chair.

Vance was the guy who really hit the nail on the head with Ziva's reinstatement though - she was the Mossad Liaison Officer - if she wasn't Mossad anymore, or they didn't want her there anymore, she couldn't really be the Liaison Officer, could she? Vance signed her up for psych evaluations, but he wasn't definitive on whether she'd get a job following them. But Gibbs was pushing for her, and he has some clout, so, as we all knew, she was getting her job back eventually.

The big thing though was at the end of the episode when Ziva admitted that she had orders back in the day to earn Gibbs' trust by eliminating Ari. Gibbs called that a "problem." Building a relationship on such a lie, even if the relationship became a great one, is unquestionably problematic. I did accept Ziva saying that she didn't kill Ari to earn Gibbs' trust but to protect him, Gibbs did too, but I can't imagine that the trust issues just disappear. That's going to linger, even if Gibbs and Vance did make sure that Ziva was back on the team at the end of the episode.

And because it would be wrong to not discuss the case at all... The killer tonight shaved his victims. Now that's a signature. Sure, it might have been hard to dispose of the hair later, but it was a good calling card. Not that the killer was using it as such, but still. Also, the killer didn't so much kill our three victims at a bachelor party - it was a fake bachelor party complete with real stripper. Way to go the extra mile.

It made for a good case, right up until they decided that Officer Shelley had done it. It seemed like an awful long time to hang onto high school bullying, didn't it? I get that Shelley was bullied badly, but triple murder in which he sets the victims in the same positions he was put in during high school? That was way too much and I don't know why Gibbs and company bought it even for a moment.

Elaina, the auction house lady who worked with one of the victims, learning of their nefarious smuggling activities and teaming with Shelley? I guess I can buy that, but not enthusiastically. Needlessly twisty and not well-established if you ask me, but I was really far more interested in watching how Ziva was going to rejoin the team (and I get the impression that the writers were more interested in getting her to rejoin the team) than in the murders.

Bits and pieces:

  • "Hector Stuckey, I'm in showbiz." Wow, the guy manages strippers. Is that the way you'd describe yourself if that was your job?
  • What is the Gibbs/Ducky bachelor party story? Did I miss that episode, cause I definitely want to see it.
  • Abby yelling at Ziva - great stuff, right?
  • Is Gibbs going to have trust issues with Ziva for a while now? He is, right?

Off topic but where IS the CSI recap? Is someone covering CSI at all? I mean if Grey's Anatomy and Gossip Girls can be covered, is it too much to ask for CSI?

I didn't think the plot explanation made much sense with respect to the killings. It was far too convoluted. Also, what if the fall guy had an air-tight alibi at the time?

The parts with Ziva, Tony, Gibbs, Abby were all very good and well-acted.

Not quite sure I understand the explanation of the crime. I get that Shelley was set up for the murders, but was he involved in the plan to rip off the dead guys? Or did he think that Elaina was helping him to bust those guys?

Wow, you didn't even mention the Tony and Ziva aspect of the episode?

Them staring at each other before McGee broke it with the humorous, "Nutter Butter" was quite intense and thought provoking, then their bathroom conversation was even better.

Loved that Ziva apologize and the long kiss on the cheek was perfect and then Tony calls her genius. Heh.

And I liked Abby kinda pissed at Ziva. She wrong Tony and Abby made damn sure she knew how she and the rest of the team felt.

Dude, you totally missed the Ziva/Tony conversation in the men's room! The classic "long enough to see you are well hydrated after returning from the desert" response to Tony's how long have you been there. And ended with Ziva giving Tony a lingering kiss to the cheek. awww!

And with all the talks that Ziva has had with everyone, wow she really did have a lot of time to think about things

But what the show has me now wondering with the psych evals etc is Ziva going to be joining NCIS as an actual NCIS member and quit Mossad as like Ziva said Eli is all but dead to her.

And dang, Ziva is always so up to date on the latest fashion. That red/white top she was wearing at the end with her hair down and everything was oh so adorable!

But Josh, I do respectfully disagree with your assessment that the team and their quirkiness, etc wouldn't work in the real world. Sure some stuff may be overly exaggerated but working together as a four person team you can't always be all about the job especially a high strung job like what they do. You would need some comic relief etc now and then to break the tension. It also helps build morale and team camaraderie. I know for myself if all people do is go to work, sit at a desk all day, and then just go home, the job gets dull but when you have fun etc with your co-workers during the work day, the job can become fun and not something one absolutely dreads having to do.

NCIS wouldn't be the same without Ziva

NCIS is still going well. We couldn't lose another 'Kate'. It is fitting Ziva should stay. Couldn't stand all that Testosterone which just oozes out of NCIS LA. Which btw is lame dull and just predictable. Yawn....

Can anyone help me out with the whole "24 hours and re-engaged" DiNozzo crack? Gibbs really laid into him for it, but I don't remember who we're talking about. I can only assume it's something with McGee, because Tony's come a long way with Gibbs, but not that far.

I love this show, mainly because of the relationships of the characters. They are all likeable and interesting. I just cannot watch NCIS LA version. No one is likeable or interesting.

Can someone please explain the "re-engaged in 24 hours" dig that DiNozzo shot (at McGee?). Gibbs came down pretty hard on Tony for it, but I don't remember the incident in question.
