'More to Love' finale: Luke picks Tali!
Tonight on "More to Love," Tali wins and we all rejoice. We are down to two women on "More to Love." Both women have to meet Luke's family tonight and Tali is first.
Tali's Date
They see each other in the park (with a cute doggie!) and hug. Tali looks so pretty in jeans and a blouse. She's a gorgeous woman. They walk his dog and have a picnic. Tali is nervous to meet Luke's dad because of the different religions and Luke is honest about that being a concern.
At the family meeting, the father Mike, brother Michael and Grandma are there. (Luke's parents divorced and the mom isn't there.) Dad loves Tali's charisma and Tali heads off with Grandma for a chat. Wow, Tali only moved here from Israel four years ago! Grandma reminds me of Minnie Pearl without the hat (in her looks) but seems totally nice. She and Tali hit it off.
They all sit down to dinner and they join hands and pray and Luke's dad is heavy on the religion talk, which must be super-comfortable for Tali. The family talks to Tali and she shares about being put down for being bigger and so her goal is to share her story and do motivational speaking and be comfortable with who you are. Dad makes another "amen" and then Luke totally snubs Tali on clinking glasses. Was I the only one who saw that? HAHA!
After dinner, they eat cake and the dad talks about Israel and Christianity with Tali. She says it's more important to have faith than the fact that she's Jewish and he's Christian. Tali says she wants her kids to know their heritage and teach them both and to be good people.
The dad keeps pressing the conflict of the different religions and Luke says that ultimately they believe in the same God and the dad looks a little unsettled. Luke says he's open to the children knowing all the beliefs, which is nice. It's good he didn't just throw Tali under the bus with his family.
Malissa's Date
They head to a pool hall and have flirty banter, which seems to be all these two have. Malissa is quite the pool shark, which is awesome. Me too, Malissa. I actually got in my first bar fight because my female friend and I beat two guys in pool and the drunker of the two guys wouldn't shake our hands, threw a beer in my friend's face and I had to punch him in the nose. Best night ever.
After Luke's pool beat-down, they have pizza and beer and talk about how much they love it. Don't let anybody forget that these are fat people and they like to eat pizza. Sigh. I had pizza tonight and I am not 200 lbs. Pizza is not the devil, folks. Good grief.
It's family time! They bond over beer and Malissa's Irish eyes. At dinner, the dad says they always say grace and Malissa says, "Oh, I love that." I would NEVER make fun of anyone's faith, but... did that seem disingenuous to anyone else? Maybe it wasn't and that's great, but... I dunno.
Luke expresses in another talking-head that he's not sure if Malissa is in it to win it or actually in it for love. I repeat: what would she WIN? This isn't exactly a ticket to stardom. After dinner, the dad says it's a pretty easy decision (implying that Malissa is the obvious choice) and the brother pipes up that he doesn't think it's easy at all. Thanks for that, brother.
Meanwhile, Malissa talks with Grandma and says she looks forward to building a life with Luke. Back to the guys, the dad says he feels like he's known Malissa his whole life and that Tali wouldn't open up. Luke says Tali was hard to get to know for him too but that's part of what he likes about her.
Luke's Mother
Both girls get to meet the mom when she drops by their shared apartment. Oh lord. Luke's mom is this tall beautiful blonde woman named Faith. Malissa totally dominates the conversation and Tali just has to kind-of sit there. Malissa also totally kisses up with complimenting Luke's heart and all that. Ugh.
Tali finally gets to talk when Faith asks about where they are from. When Tali talks about what she does for a living (modeling) and where she's from (Israel), Malissa very rudely gets up to check on the biscuits and makes all this noise and draws Faith's attention away from Tali. Oooh, Malissa sucks. That's dirty.
Later, Luke joins them for breakfast and the mom grills Tali on her faith, saying that people need to "share the same values" and then says that people can share values while sharing different religions. Well, thank god for that.
Faith then asks the girls why they came on "More to Love" and Tali says it's for respect and showing that love comes in all sizes. Malissa then says she did it on a whim and calls herself a "main character" and that she did it for the experience. Hmmmm.
Alone Time with Mom
Tali totally wins Faith over by talking about how she came here and pulled herself up by her bootstraps and just did her thing. Malissa talks about her mom dying when she was a young girl and afterwards Faith says in a talking-head that Malissa as a future daughter-in-law is premature, though Malissa does "seem well-rounded." (Ba-dump ching!)
When Luke is alone with mom, she speaks very highly of Tali and not as highly of Malissa. Actually, that's an understatement. Faith seems to HATE Malissa (as a match for her son). It's so interesting that mom loves Tali and dad loves Malissa. I think I side with Faith on this one and that dad shouldn't let faith get in the way so much. Ba-dump ching!
Final Dates
Tali very clearly loves Luke's mom because Faith is more open-minded and clearly really warmed up to Tali. He expresses concern about Tali being willing to move from NYC, but she says she can pursue her dreams in a new location and just comes right out and says that she's willing to move to California. Yeah, Tali can pursue modeling in Cali too. They make out and share their true feelings.
On Malissa's date, you can tell she thought she won over the dad, brother and grandma but DID NOT win over the mom. Okay, just as an aside: Malissa's dress is like falling off. Us busty gals cannot wear strapless dresses that are not supported by a corset-type body. It looks terrible and saggy and over-exposed. Blech.
Anyway, Malissa tells Luke that if he asked her to marry him, "Yes, yes, a thousand times yes." Oh, gag me. You can't do any better than that, Malissa? They make out.
Final Showdown Montage
The girls get their hair and make-up done, Luke picks out a ring. That's it, total filler.
Final Showdown
Luke tells us he has deep feelings for two women but that there is a difference between loving someone and being IN LOVE with someone and he's only in love with one girl.
Who's first to arrive? OMG, it's... Malissa! Did he pick Tali? I will be surprised. Malissa comes up and Luke says she's a beautiful woman and is fun and adventurous and that he loves her, but that his heart belongs to somebody else. There's some schmaltz, but whatever. See ya later, Malissa! She puts on a good sad face, but I don't necessarily believe that she's THAT broken up.
Tali arrives and there is much schmoopiness. Luke goes back to how hard it is for people like them to find love. Good lord. He calls her a beautiful curvy woman, which is nice. He then brings up the two different worlds thing and she looks so sad. But then he says he made a promise to love her for who she is and then gets down on one knee and proposes. Awww. They smooch and laugh and hug, it's very cute.
You know, if it's for real... I hope they are very happy together. I am very skeptical of these shows, but if it's real then good for them. I wish we got some kind of reunion show to find out how they are doing.
