'America's Got Talent': Drew Stevyns pulls it out
Tonight on "America's Got Talent," the finalists include Barbara Padilla, Recycled Percussion, Hairo Torres, Lawrence Beaman and Drew Stevyns. After a video recap of last night, we get right down to business with Footworkingz versus Hairo Torres. You know, before last night I would've said Footworkingz for sure. But now I say it's Hairo. Footworkingz kinda blew it last night. And then... Hairo Torres is in the finals! Good for him.
There is now video of the judges' decision from last week during the commercial break. Apparently the judges really did sit around and agonize over Voices of Glory vs Fab Five. Or the alternate theory is that this was pre-planned as a stunt and the judges had to sit there and "agonize" so that they had this footage to show us. Hmmm. Moving on...
...to the Orville Lounge segment. Sigh. Nick compares Jeffrey to "Beethoven meets Purple Rain." I like that better than "Mozart meets Amadeus, Amadeus."
Back to the results. Now we have Erik & Rickie and Jeffrey Ou. Really? Please let both of them be eliminated. Please. They are talented and cute, but not good enough to continue. And then they both are. Nick Cannon sounds genuinely sad about it, which he probably is because he seems to have such an affinity for the child acts.
The next pairing is Mario & Jenny and Recycled Percussion. Well, based on last night, this should be Recycled Percussion, but based on the whole season I would say Mario & Jenny. And then... Recycled Percussion has made it to the finals. No surprises there. They aren't my cup of tea, but they were certainly one of the five best acts LAST night.
We now have the cast of "Jersey Boys," which is awesome because it's the music of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons. I love not only that era of music, but I love groups with names like that: Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels. Love 'em.
They perform "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," which alternately makes me think of Heath Ledger (RIP) singing to Julia Stiles or Denise Richards singing to Jesus. Hahahaha. That launches into "Walk Like a Man." and "Tears in Your Eyes" and "Who Loves You." Man, Frankie Valli had an amazing falsetto. The guy singing his part is very good, but not quiiiite in the Frankie Valley stratosphere.
Back to the results. Nick brings forth all 4 remaining acts, which are Lawrence Beaman, Drew Stevyns, the EriAm Sisters and Barbara Padilla. The first act advancing is Barbara Padilla. I get confused for a second because Nick said the act taking the FOURTH spot, but only Hairo and Recycled Percussion have gotten through so far, so she is the third. And I'm pretty sure they are taking 5 acts. Isn't that what they said?
Now we have the last three acts for two spots. As long as the EriAm Sisters make it through, I'm happy. The next act through is... Lawrence Beaman. No surprises there, he's pretty popular and he's been good up until last night.
I'm sorry, Drew Stevyns. I liked your "Careless Whisper" last night, but I want to see the EriAm Sisters advance. And then... Drew Stevyns advances. Awwww. Booooo. Nothing against Drew, but I wanted to see the girls advance.
What did you guys think? Did the right 5 acts go home? I know I'm happier this week than I was last week.
So our Top 10 finalists, who are performing MONDAY NIGHT SEPTEMBER 14TH (don't forget, it's not Tuesday), are the Texas Tenors, Grandma Lee, Kevin Skinner, Voices of Glory, Fab Five, Hairo Torres, Recycled Percussion, Barbara Padilla, Lawrence Beaman and Drew Stevyns. I am firmly rooting for the Fab Five and Barbara Padilla.
Right at the end of the broadcast, Nick Cannon gets a little flustered and goes, "And if y'all think I'm talking weird, it's 'cause Piers Morgan is standing in front of the prompter." HAHAHAHAHA. Awesome.

I was pretty upset with how the judges kept saying that Drew's performance was original. Have they not heard the remake by Seether? Or did they really think he was the original to sing that song after Wham? In my opinion, he is just another guy with a guitar trying to sound like his idols on the radio- nothing original about that.
My personal favorite act out of the top 10 is Hairo, but I'm guessing Barbara Padillo will win the contest. I don't think Kevin Skinner can take her out.
The Eriam sisters failed my first test: If you can't sing in tune (and they were really off in the opening), you shouldn't be in the finals for $1,000,000.
I just wanted to thank you for giving this recap. This is the only show I watch all week and I record as to watch at my convenience. Due to the Presidents speech, it cut off everything after Barbara so I was searching the web looking for results and finally came across this. I appreciate the prompt play by play you gave!
My biggest disappointments of the season were seeing acrodunk leave as well as the platt brothers. At this point though they should all be proud to have made it this far, after all, there can be only 1 left in the end. My guess is Barbara. I'm a rock genre fan, but her singing gives me goosebumps.
charlie i felt exactly the same way! and not a soul bothered correcting them. drew stevyns should no way no how be in this competition, but i guess it's a non-issue at this point because his chances to win altogether are slim if not none.
I'm not disappointed with the acts that advanced! Sooooo glad Drew Stevyns did though. He has an Awesome voice!!
I would really like to see the Fab 5 take it. They have been so creative, but I don't know how they could keep up that endurance for the length of what would be a Vegas show. What perhaps an hour and a half? I do think Barbara will take it, she is such a phenominal singer.
I also was very upset when my recorder turned off after Barbara. Did the judges have to choose between two acts--or did they just announce the winners? I agreed with the results.
Barbara is the top of the list and should be the winner. I don't listen to opra but when she sang ave maria last night and gave everyone goose bumbs she sang with feelings and she sang from her heart. I would go listen to her any day. She is the best out of the rest. They are good but their voices and talent is not as beautiful and gifted as barbara padilla. You have be truethful she was the best.
While I like the opera voice of Barbara - whom I think belongs on broadway rather than AGT - my vote goes to Lawrence Beaman. His deep bass voice is both talented and inspirational. Although I agree that Acrodunk would have made the best Vegas show.
