Kuponoaweau_sytycd_s5_290 Up until now, the "So You Think You Can Dance" judges have decided who went home but in the final stretch it's up to the voters. Don't tick me off, America.

The group number, to "So Much Betta" by Janet Jackson, has a decidedly Asian theme to it. This has been a wonderfully internationally flavored week. Wade & Amanda Robson choreographed it.No surprise there. I liked that it was a fusion of dance styles. I dug it.

After host Cat Deeley comes out, she introduces a we get a brief montage of the four Emmy nominated numbers from last season - Mia Michaels, Tyce D'Orio, Tabitha & Napoleon, and former contestant Dmitry Chaplin. The Make-Up Department was also nominated. Cat wasn't, which is one of the most egregious nomination crimes of the year.

The judges, who have nothing really to do tonight, are Mary Murphy and Debbie Allen. Nigel Lythgoe is absent because he's receiving an honorary degree in England. We get a full recap of last night's proceedings before we get into the results.

All the ladies are on stage after a commercial to hear their fates. Janette...is safe. Yay! Randi is the first to land in the Bottom Two. Jeanine is deservedly safe. She was really great last night. This leaves Kayla and Melissa. I'm thinking the latter is in trouble. And I'm right. Melissa joins Randi on the chopping block.

To pad at the show, we get another Cat-throwing-to-Cat-throwing-to-a-sneak-peak-of-next-season segment. Tonight's Season 6 spotlight is on an 18-year-old girl auditioning for the first time. Adam Shankman looked like he was in love.

Now for the guys' results. Jason is safe, which is no surprise and totally deserved. He lets out several primal yells of relief. Evan is safe, which proves he was keeping his partnership with Randi afloat. Kupono is in danger, which makes me sad but I'm not surprised. It's down to Brandon and Ade and...Ade is in the bottom. The reaction was really interesting because Brandon wanted to be all happy but he didn't want to be at the same time. At this point, I'd gladly get rid of both girls in exchange for keeping both guys.

A brief aside: I don't not like the "Harry Potter"-ish commercial for "Fame." It seems like a desperate attempt to cash in on another movies heat, something totally unnecessary since dance movies have been doing very well. "Fame" will be no exception. Now back to your regularly scheduled recap.

Randievans_sytycd_s5_290 Our bottom four contestants will all get to perform solos, a last hurrah since they aren't dancing for the judges anymore. Randi and Kupono are the first two and they perform to the same songs as yesterday's solos, albeit with different costumes. I still really like Kupono's and I thought Randi did a better job tonight.

Melissa and Ade dance after the commercial break, also to the same music as last night but with different costumes. Debbie gives the great advice to Melissa saying if she makes it through, she needs to go to another level in her solos. I totally agree.

It's now time for the Black Eyed Peas to entertain us with their new single, "I Gotta Feeling." I simultaneously like and dislike this song. They have a bunch of freestyling back-up dancers who come flying in from all over the place. There's also confetti. Lots of confetti. Geez, they're touring with U2? I'd never think to put those two together. Ever.

After much balleyhoo, it's finally time to learn who'll be going home. First up, the ladies and it's Randi who'll be going home. She really is a great dancer, people just weren't connecting to her personality. At least she won't have to talk to her dog on the phone anymore.

The fewest vote-getter of the guys is...Kupono. After repeatedly flirting with elimination, it's finally caught up to him. He's taking it quite well - I'm pretty sure he expected it. I think he's awesome and I'm sad to see him go.

I'm not at all surprised by who got cut tonight - are you? Think you can predict the Top 4/winners now? Also, next week are the 99th & 100th episodes featuring all kinds of fancy stuff including the return of some past fabulous performances and dancers and Katie Holmes. That ought to be fun.

ade was in the bottom over evan!!! i'm glad the show stopped saying it's the best dancer but the public's favorite dancer. not that that takes some of my ****iness away.

yes, melissa has to go to another level.
randi would not have gotten cut if she'd been pared with any other guy but kupono.
kupono might have been saved if he had another dance other than paso doble.

america what are you thinking ... ade!!!

the final four should be jeanette jeanine ade and brandon. period. end of story.

Not surprised at all on the eliminations.

Just wanted to make a quick comment on Katie Holmes. I loved the fact that there was ZERO reaction from the audience. Cat paused expecting applause, but none was forthcoming.

I'm a bit worried about Ellen Degeneres (sp) joining the panel next week as she has a tendency to be very talky, which will only encourage the the other judges to be even more talky than they normally are. It'll be very interesting to see the essentially exact opposite people in Ellen and Mia back to back in the panel next week.

For a while I've thought that the 2 male finalists would be Evan and Brandon and I see no reason to change that pick at this point.

For the females I think Janette and a bit of a surprise in Melissa -> it looks like Jeanine is headed there, but I'm picking the upset.

Still going with Evan right now (as overall winner), although every week I'm coming a bit closer to picking Brandon.

Lastly, I was really glad to see Wade make use of Melissa's ballet in the group number as I don't think that the group choreographers' have taken advantage of that up to this point. To me it is the most unique skill left in the show.

interesting fact, before they were really big black eyed peas toured with no doubt.

We have a clear answer about dance.dialidol.com - NOT accurate. Had Randi as the top female vote getter and Kayla and Jason at the bottom.

I think the overall winner will come from the women - Janine or Janette. Makes no matter - they're all fun to watch and terrific dancers.

Certainly seemed to me that Randi was almost jumping out of her skin to go home. She was just glowing as soon as they called her name. Misses her husband, I imagine. Good for her! Great dancer, a tour coming up, with time to rest and recover. Best of both worlds.

I wasn't surprised by the result, either, but I'll miss seeing them both on the show. Randi is a cutie-patootie, and Kupono is really funny.

I think the final four is going to be Brandon, Evan, Janette, and Jeanine, although I think Kayla is a better dancer than both Janette and Jeanine. She just hasn't caught on the way the rest of the contestants have, it seems. Kayla seemed much more chummy last night, though. Anyone else notice her with arms draped around Evan for much of the elimination sequence? She must have liked being partnered with him. That's nice.

(I, too, am disappointed to see no Emmy nomination for Cat, but I'm really glad Tabitha and Napoleon got one for "Bleeding Love". I love that routine!)

Booo!! I'm gonna really miss Randi. Early on I wasn't a big fan of hers but I was starting to enjoy her now she's gone... :(

I never did like Kupono. He danced a little too feminine for me. If I'm gonna watch a dude dance he needs to really bring it and be the man.

I really can not stand Kayla. She should be the next to go for the girls, she should have went tonight actually but anyone partnered with Evan is going to be safe because he is inexplicibally popular. Jeanine, Janette, Brandon, and Ade/Jason for the final for with Jeanine winning. I really love Jeanine and Janette is fire btw did you know she is from Miami.

@renee- They've ALWAYS said "America's favorite dancer". At least they have for the past three years. I have only been watching since season 2. Nigel knows that the most technical or naturally gifted dancers don't always get the votes so he is always reminding us that it is America's FAVORITE dancer.

@Rishi- I always watch these shows on delay so I can FF the nonsense so I missed what you are talking about. What did Cat say about Katie Holmes? Glad there was no reaction. I may have to go back just to watch that part and laugh in glee. She bugs me. Also missed that Ellen Degeneres is coming on the show. Could be funny- but also annoying. I know her schtick is the dancing at the start of her show, but she isn't a good dancer and not sure if she really KNOWS anything about dance so- this could either be good (I like Quentin Tarantino on AI, for example) or it could be a disaster.

As for who went home- I guess I'm okay with it. Overall I think the girls are stronger dancers but there still really isn't anyone that I would love to see win. Honestly, I haven't really CONNECTED with any dancers since season 3. I like to watch the dances but I don't really care who wins.

That said, I still have a soft spot for Evan. I know he's not the best dancer and I don't think he should win but I love watching him do his own style. His solo was the only one I actually watched on Wednesday.

Oh- I also meant to say that I was actually upset that Sonya's (sp?) routine done to Mirah's The Garden wasn't nominated. I thought for sure it would be. I think hers should have been nominated over Tyce's. I liked hers better than his.

Ok- I posted and it said my reply was posted but now I don't see it. If this turns out to be a duplicate, I apologize (I so much prefer the blogs, etc, where you can actually EDIT your own posts). Anyway, I think that Sonya's The Garden dance should have been nominated for an Emmy. I absolutely loved that dance.
