'NYC Prep': Christmas in July

Nycprep_taylor_290Hey, "NYC Prep" fans! Tired of the summer heat? Well sit back and chill out because it's December and snowy on the Upper East Side.

Since "no one stays on the UES for the holidays," PC is headed to Mexico for some fun in the sun. Once in Cancun he meets up with his old boarding school friend JP, and them together is far too many initials for two people to possess. PCJP go to a club in Cancun (which PC calls "trashy" which is the only kind of club they have in Cancun, as far as I know) and we learn that the drunker PC gets, the douchier he gets, all up until a certain point when he gets so drunk he no longer remembers he's a douche and starts to have a good time with the lesser folks. At least until the grain alcohol wears off. PCJP spend the rest of the weekend getting drunk and looking down at all of the people in Cancun who aren't from New York. Good times.

Jessie is in Palm Beach for the winter break, and seeing her driving around there makes me nostalgic for the gone-before-its-time CW drama "Privileged." Sniff. I miss you, Rose and Sage! Anywho, Jessie meets up with her friend Kim, who starts harping on Jessie for being secretly in love with PC. Jessie denies it, but Kim rightly points out that all of Jessie's denials come along with much blushing and smiling. When Jessie returns to NYC, she grills PC about his misdeeds in Mexico and tells him about Kim's theory of their secret love. She's not really convincing me Kim is wrong, here. The only reason you would mention something like Kim's theory is to gauge the reaction of the other party.

Taylor is poor and therefore spending her holidays in the city. The shame! Her continuing dilemma: she likes both Cole and Sebastian, and they both like her back. While on a shopping trip, some non-drama regarding Kelli's feelings for Sebastian is discussed between Taylor and Camille. Out of nowhere, Camille suggests that Taylor, Kelli, Sebastian and Cole should all hang out together one night. Taylor is all (appropriately) "the hell?" I will give Camille credit for something, she likes to cause trouble. I respect that in a reality television show character. Taylor spends some quality time in the snow with Sebastian, and later is flustered when Cole shows up at her gymnastics meet and starts asking her about him. They go out after the meet and Cole straight up grills Taylor about Sebastian. Back off, dude!  Cole then tells her they should get back together, and she should tell Sebastian to bug off. Taylor is still on the fence, mostly because Cole is a known commodity to her and Sebastian is new and shiny and different and rich. Never underestimate the power of the new and shiny to a teenage girl, and the power of the rich to Taylor.

Kelli is in the Hamptons for the holidays with her family. We meet her sister Chelsea, who has cerebral palsy, but don't get to know much else about her. Kelli's house in the Hamptons, by the way, is ginormous. Sebastian visits Kelli at her palace and they make awkward small talk in order to attempt to create a "triangle" between them and Taylor. Note to the producers: it's not really working. Sebastian doesn't like Kelli. On a more somber note, Kelli's family dog, Lily, dies over the holidays and they have a funeral for her. I was going to make fun of them for the full-on burial, but Kelli is so distraught over the loss of her pet I can't bring myself to do it. I have a little bit of a heart.

The afterthought of the episode is Camille, who is also spending her time in the city. One of Camille's holiday presents is a visit from a professional stylist who helps her weed out her closet so she has room for new things. The stylist is obsessed with getting rid of anything "last season," and Camille earns some points with me when she says she doesn't care if something was last season or before, if it's a good dress she wants to keep it.

Random thoughts:

  • I love how the subtitles give the kids better grammar than they actually have in the moment. I suppose typing "like' 50 times in one sentence would get annoying, so perhaps it's just to save the subtitle writer's sanity.
  • Meeting Sebastian's dad makes me understand a lot more about Sebastian. Dear Sebastian's Dad: please don't allude to how a girl your son was scamming is hot. You're old, and it's gross. Thanks, Carrie.

Favorite quotes:

  • "I always wanted to just, like, marry rich so maybe I should just think about things with Sebastian." - Taylor, on choosing between Cole and Sebastian
  • "I don't know too many Mexicans in New York, besides, like delivery guys." - PC
  • "Did you say something was vintage from the 90's?" - Hetha, Camille's stylist
  • "I'm up for talking to people and hanging out, but the girls were from Texas. You know, I mean...Texas. That's all I'm going to say is Texas." - PC

sorry, i still love this show. they live in the world of kathie lee gifford and baba walters, but have to deal with the same feelings we all do as teenagers - frigging angst, heartache (kelli and dead dog lily had me in tears), no clue parents, mixed signal friends, etc. etc.

yes, i love this show.

c'mon you missed one of the best quotes, PC saying anything can happen/you can't predict the future. so yeah he might date Jessie again, and he also might marry a chimp someday!

i did also like PC Texas quote. since when did guys worry about what state girls are from? but yeah i know...it's PC.

onemorething, they made PC look more gay in the preview (when he was with his friend from Mexico) than it actually turned out to be.

oh and note to Sebastian! enjoy that hair of your's while you got it kid (re his balding father)....

The people are pretty awful but Kelli's Hamptons house is To Die For!!! Let's see more of that house. Sorry about Lily, but the funeral was high camp!

this show is a little confusing. I am not a huge fan of it, mainly because the kids are stuck up. I know taylor isn't rich, but she goes to the fullest extent to make herself seem rich. Jessie, i am sorry for you. the fact that you talk to PC like he is your kid and then pretent you don't love him when everyone knows you do is so strange.

PC is a gay everyone. At the very least he is experimenting... He clearly has a thing for his old boarding school buddy..

yeah, i agree with above post that PC is probably gay. anyway, he is damn funny. Jessie is kind of pathetic (esp about PC).

PC is a loser. His parents must be so proud of him. ... or does he have parents? Maybe he was just a clone raised by bots. He's not tall enough to be cool or cl***y or whatever. He's just a small fry in a big world ... and unless he gets a revelation about needing people, he always will be a small, ugly, unhappy, unpleasant, malcontent.

I thought that PC & JP were awful touchy to be straight. They ALWAYS were touching each other one way or another. That seems... odd.

Camille had said they were uber rich (not her exact words, but top whatever % of whatever$) but her room was TINY and so was her closet. I fully expected a huge room with a walk-in closet about the size of my entire upstairs. I don't think Camille is as rich as she was saying. Oh- and the dead bird on her head needs to go!!

I did really appreciate her take on clothes, though. Why get rid of it because it was "last season" if it cost a lot of money and is still good. And I sincerely hope the "throwing away" of the clothes was just an expression and they were AT LEAST donating them or selling them to donate money to charity or something. What a waste if they were REALLY throwing all those clothes away.

Jessie obviously is in love with PC but I don't get that vibe back from him, considering the above statement! I think he really is just friends with her.

Although I haven't seen the latest episode aired this week, I've seen the others to conclude my own judgements on these rich fools.

Clearly they are self-centered snobs [as everyone else has mentioned]. And trying to obsessively follow and record their lives as underage NYC rich kids is ridiculous. Why, in God's name, would you produce a show, paying them [most likely] thousands of dollars just to act like immature little brats? Are they not rich enough?

Well, I'd like to say the real world will bite them in the ***, but they may as well be successful and happy. Somewhere.

But I know their happiness won't be for long. It's all materialistic and senseless, really. The things they do will be done out of habit as mentioned from a previous episode where the girls, at some fancy luncheon/dinner, inquizitively ask each other their plans for the break. Someone said the beach, most likely Palm Beach [I don't really remember or care], with a follow-up of "Haven't you been there several times?" God forbid you get to travel. I think PC mentioned he was tired of this casual-dating-sex phase and actually wants a relationship. GASP! Perhaps he needs to grow a pair of nuts and actually try being a little more genuine and softer instead of acting like an arrogant elitist and prude.

Kelli needs to stop being so jealous. It will eat you alive, sugar. Besides, I'm pretty sure Sebastian has some kind of STD by now. Actually, I'm pretty sure most of the guys do with all the apparent high-school orgies they keep talking about.

Camille, well, sometimes I pity her for being the "wing-man" for Kelli. She is a prude. She reminds me of those annoying old women in those British black&white films/TV shows who live next door and constantly bagger the main characters. Like Hyacinth Bucket from Keeping Up Appearances.

Jessie is an exclusive-type of person. She is a social anti-socialite; she has her group of friends but is extremely unwilling to reach out to meet new people. She claims she wants to network around, but she's failing so far. Get over it! And get over PC. The public knows you're in denial, and I know you, Jessie, know it, too. There are other boys out there you can grab at besides metro-sexual-and-possibly-gay PC.

Taylor has potential to be a pretty cool person, but she is quite shallow with her taste in boys. You may be "poor" with your Richie-Rich friends, but you aren't compared to a lot of Americans living these days. You climb the social ladder too many times. You're only effing 15. Go to college, earn a degree, make some decent money and then you'll be fine. And Sebastian isn't someone you should consider dating [as the previews of the next episode forewarns].

Sebastian is a player. One day the game will end and he will be a balding man with nothing more to gain but a beer belly and impotence. His haircut is senseless. Why keep it long if you keep brushing it off your face every 2 minutes? I want to take a pair of scissors, no, a razor, and completely remove your dirty blonde [but mostly dirty], stringy hair.

They are fortunate to have the money and lifestyle, but I think they need to tone down the incessant rubbing-of-one's-face to the rest of us.

Honestly, I don't care what they do. I just don't appreciate them parading everything on national television. And I wanted my two-cents.

Grow up; you all are not the only whiny teenagers with problems. ****s.
