'Dating in the Dark' Hotdogs and buns
Tonight, 'Dating in the Dark' asked again if looks personality overcomes appearance or do breasts conquer all? Of course, breast size and personality are subjective preferences. But there's nothing like reality TV to illustrate that the preferences of some make them jerks. I'm looking at you, Doug. But we'll get there in a moment.
The show begins with the Group Date. The producers feel the need to elucidate the audience on what the experience of darkness is by showing a black screen and titling it "This is what they see." Thanks for clearing that up, guys. I was wondering if there was something wrong with my TV what with the night vision camera stylings. I'm instantly charmed by how Lindsey recognizes that it was pointless for her to wave at the guys as she introduces herself. But the group date offers little else in the way of insight.
Instead of switching shirts this week, they are allowed to invade each other luggage. Doug instantly begins checking out bra sizer. His parent's must be proud of the charming man they've raised. He's all class. The girls are mystified by Jason's flat iron. Apparently they don;t have metrosexuals where they are from. The initial dates leave Doug out in the cold as both Chrystee and Lindsey chose Jason. Doug picks Lindsey and holds her hand through the whole date. In fact, there's a long of exploratory touching of hair and faces. Except Chrystee, who espouses her faith to a disinterested Jason.
The Compatibility Partners end up being the remainder of the show. Megan and Matt attempt indoor surfing, which is more an excuse to Matt to feel how fit Megan is. When he tells the guys she's a thicker girl, Doug asks if that's a deal breaker and seems shocked when Matt can't give him a straight answer. This will become important later. Chrystee and Jason wrestle over a football, which he prefers to the Jesus talk. Doug brings melted chocolate and instructs Lindsey to put it on the places of her body she wants kissed. It strikes me as deeply creepy, but she goes with it. Even though in the dark, they can't find the chocolate with much accuracy.
The Final Dates are planned so that the guys cook dinner and the girls give the guys massages. Lindsey and Doug hit it out of the ballpark over hotdogs (see what I did there?) while Matt and Megan exchange good natured sarcastic barbs. But when it comes time for Megan to give him a massage, I am appalled by the amount of oil she uses on him. Is she planning on cooking chicken on his back? Chrystee brings God as her co-pilot/wingman as Jason tunes her out. Gosh, I wonder how that will work out?
The Reveals are telling, as all the girls fairly beam after seeing what the guys look like, returning and telling each other how handsome or what a great smile the guys had. On the other hand, Jason looks disappointed, Doug looks relieved and Matt just looks away. They all complain, as Matt says Megan's size is off putting, Doug is dismayed my Lindsey's blemished skin and Jason admits Chrystee is pretty but the Jesus bit is more than he feels ready for. In the final scenes, Doug comes to the balcony for Lindsey, despite her acne. Matt joins Megan, despite her thickness. And Jason books out the front door to avoid Chrystee and her religion. Which is especially sad as she forlornly stars at the thank you letter she had written for him.
I think perhaps this show is trying to pack too many segments in too short a time. I think they could skip the initial date between the group and compatibility dates. I am also not sure that some of the people showing up for the final balcony moments are really honestly there - or just trying not to look like shallow fools on national TV. What say you, fellow watchers?

i wonder if chrystee's race had anything to do with her not being picked.
Jason was just too shallow
I honestly believe it had more to do with her depth of faith. In the beginning of the show the guys had already correctly guessed as to her possible race. It didn't seem to matter to any of them.
As far as I'm concerned she was an absolute joy. Would love the opportunity to meet such a wonderful girl.
i don't think race had anything to do with it at all. he mentioned he thought she was a "light skinned" black girl after the initial group meeting. and he kept saying how attractive she was. religious differences are an important factor in a relationship, and i give him credit for not blowing that off just because she was hot! i also feel she understood, and may respect him for it (after she watches the playback, of course...)!
agree with the others above, Jason had already guessed her race the first meeting (but then still pursued her). i believe him when he said the religious stuff bugged him. i'd feel the same way!
so far, i'm enjoying this show, but i wish they would include updates on the ppl!
With Jason, I don't think it was a race issue with him at all. I wasn't interested in her religious talk either. I skipped over most of their scenes. I wish there had been a way for Jason to let her know WHY he left her on the balcony though. I'd hate for her to think it was because she was black or because she wasn't pretty enough....when it seemed it was mostly because they just shared different religious views.
I liked Doug, so I was disappointed by the bra thing ("34 C? Healthy girl!") and by the acne comments.
Did anyone else notice that Lindsey kept slipping in and out of accents? I thought they said she was from Boston? That did not sound like a Boston accent to me.
I like this show a lot more when I can skip over the boring parts. :)
The black girl was the most attractive one on the show (I'm not black) but the strong religiousness is a turnoff, especially the praying at the meal. Too bad because she was beautiful and had the best body and a fun personality it seemed. I don't think religious folks understand how big a turnoff that is for non-religious folks.
Having had acne myself in the past, I am actually glad that Doug commented on the acne. I like honesty and I think girls need to suck it up and accept it instead of artificially boosting their self-esteem by avoiding issues.
The chubby girl was cute but could actually be hot if she lost about 20 pounds.
I'm hoping in future episodes for some more interesting scenarios, like short men, black men, asian men, hot models, etc.
don't make this show about race. it is what it is. a dating show to show how people have different types and different styles and to see whether or not they choose to try and make it work. but the fact is the person might be as sweet and kind as they can be but you also have to be attracted physically to that person or it's not going to work. while some of these reasons that the contestants state are unbelievely shallow, at least they are being honest.
I was really glad that I read the comments because I also felt that Jason was no longer interested in Chrystee once he discovered that she was black. However, M00ncalf's comment "don't make this show about race" and further that "a person can be as sweet and kind as they can be but you also have to be attracted physically to that person" made me once again question Jason's motives. Yes, Jason had issues with her spirituality but I saw Jason's face when he saw hers and he definitely disappointed. And, since Chrystee is beautiful and has a fabulous body, one can only conclude it was because she was black.
Let me start off by saying that I am black. With Chrystee any SANE person would see it wasn't about race so please don't play that card to get stuff started on here. Their difference was RELIGION. Which is a HUGE issue if in a relationship, you can't accept the other person's religion or spirituality if it's different than yours. I actually think he did them a favor by recognizing that he just couldn't get over her being very dedicated to her faith. You could clearly tell that he was attractived to her so it would have been much worse for them to have really fallen for each other and been split up by faith in the end. I love this show and I will keep watching.
