'NYC Prep': The games teens play
The kids of "NYC Prep" might resemble mini-adults, but tonight's episode proved they are still the teenagers their birth certificates claim them to be, as they play all the same games teens have been playing for decades.
The games center around the new love triangle of Sebastian, Taylor and Kelli. Taylor and Sebastian go on a date to a French restaurant, where Sebastian speaks more French and therefore skeeves me out yet again. Teenagers really should not have a seduction technique. On the date we learn that Taylor wants to be a philosopher when she grows up. I think Taylor is in for quite a shock when she gets older and graduates with that degree in philosophy. The date seems to go well, considering all the making out that happens at the end.
Sebastian is also hanging out with Kelli in the park, even bringing her cupcakes. Mmm, cupcakes. To his credit, Sebastian doesn't seem to be trying to play anyone, and totally fesses up that he has a date with Taylor that night. Kelli confides in Camille about the situation and Camille decides they should call Sebastian together and ask him how the date went. (I so remember doing things like this in high school, and it makes me cringe.) When Kelli finds out the date went well, she is less than pleased. They then decide to invite Taylor shopping to get perspective on the date from her end. She also says it went well, but is a teenage girl so she's automatically a lot more skeptical as to the intention behind their questions. By the time Camille and Kelli conspire to invite them both to a party so Kelli can see how they interact, and Taylor's ex-boyfriend Cole shows up as well, the entire thing devolves into the plot of one of those ubiquitous 90's teen comedy films. In the end, it all backfires on Kelli, who gets so upset at seeing Sebastian and Taylor together that she leaves the party.
In the more boring storyline of the episode, PC realizes he wants a relationship and goes to his shrink to talk it over. He uses the word "psycho-pharmacologist" like a champ, by the way. He and his shrink talk forever. Like, FOREVER forever. Who thought that was a good idea? After his therapy session, PC is more comfortable admitting he wants a relationship and meets up with ex-girlfriend Amanda to find out what went wrong with them so he can analyze how to do things differently in the future. PC is convinced his problem is that he needs to date outside the chi-chi UES circle, so he can get away from the pompous a-holes. That's going to be difficult, considering he's one of those a-holes. He then meets up with friend Sarah, who offers to set him up with one of her friends. PC agrees and does a lot of talking about opening up to new experiences, but gets stood up on the date. Hee. There's a new experience for you, PC!
Jessie spends the episode bitching about being called a bitch and working on Operation Smile event, and talking with her friend about shoes. Yawn.
Random thoughts:
- It's only episode two and I'm already sick of Sebastian's constant hair flipping. However, I can't really hate on a guy who is brazen enough to ask for a girl's number right in front of another girl he knows is into him, and who also is friends with the girl he is currently hooking up with.
- I want to go to the thrift store Taylor visits, because it's awesome. The ones in my neighborhood just have acid washed mom jeans.
Favorite quotes:
- "I flush the toilet before I'm done peeing. Maybe I'm a little impatient." - PC
- "It's a turn-on when a guy is bilingual." - Taylor
- "How do philosophers get paid? Don't they just, like, think?" - Sebastian
- "It's actually really stressful when you're at a party with two guys you like and who like you." - Taylor
- "I didn't really feel, like, threatened by Cole because I didn't really feel like he was a fantastic looking guy." - Sebastian
What did you guys think?

The only thing that made sense in this episode was Taylor poo-poohing the outrageous cost of clothing on the shopping trip with Kelmille. I loved how she said she would get a shirt at Target and decorate it herself before she would spend $500 on one of these.
And I can't stand the phony way these kids all talk!
I feel a little bad for taylor. Her mother doesn't understand that its ok for her daughter to make friends with kids outside of her school. I sometimes think this show makes parents who watch rethihnk their own way of restricting thier kids. Although i am not a parent, i am picturing an up-tight mother of a teenager just taking away all thier kids rights.
great recap, i was rotfl at that PC quote. i also thought this epi was better than the premiere. enjoying the triangle. yes, Seb is tres brazen, and it's refreshing how he doesn't try to hide anything, and he just puts it all on the table. i like Taylor.
is it just me, or is Jesse not really so confident as she pretends to be? and PC is sad, he def needs to lighten up and start enjoying life. hey kid, you're only 18 for god's sake! not everything is life or death, try having some fun!
This episode was so good. I think Taylor is probably the best one of them all. Sebastian is very good looking, but he's too much of a player for my taste.
