'The Celebrity Apprentice' and the chicken of the sea

Joanrivers_thecelebrityapprentice_s2_240 Last week, Joan Rivers allegedly quit "The Celebrity Apprentice." She huffed and she puffed and she stormed out of Trump Tower. She still wasn't present when the show began this week. The million dollar question was "would she return?"

Yes, yes she would. We all kind of knew that, and I'm happy she came back. I fully believed heading into tonight that she was going to pull out all the stops in going after Annie, and, if you haven't figured it out by now, I have wanted to see Annie go down for a long time.

With next week being the finale, the show had to get rid of three folks tonight and the first went down in a traditional task -- making a jingle and radio commercial for Chicken of the Sea. My two favorite candidates -- Joan and Jesse -- were over on Award-winning singer-songwriter Clint Black's team. Score!

I had a good feeling about the task, Clint was managing Kotu and Annie was in charge at Athena, setting up another great opportunity to see Annie disappear. Plus, if Kotu lost, my two picks would be safe because obviously Clint should have been able to carry his team to victory and would go down for the loss.

Poor deluded Annie, at some point during the task she decided that she had not only written a great jingle, but that there was no way that Clint was that much better than her as a songwriter. I think she actually believed what she was saying. I have to assume that after she records a platinum country album she'll go after a Heisman... how hard could that be?

Now, it is true that Annie and Brande beat Kotu -- apparently the execs didn't like Clint's country jingle -- but that doesn't make Annie a songwriter of Clint's caliber. It just doesn't. I can accept Kotu's loss but the real problem is that now we can all expect to see a Christmas album from Annie on store shelves this holiday season.

Clint ended up getting fired, as we knew he would with a Kotu loss, leaving me feeling as though we were doomed to see Annie in the finals. My one shining hope was Piers Morgan. Piers got to give his recommendations on finalists to Trump and could possibly have convinced The Donald to get rid of Annie.

Of course, however, Piers liked her. That wasn't a big surprise, they're both hard-nosed, smart people who can come off as terribly mean. They're also great fundraisers and recognized early on that the show is mostly about fundraising.

Much to my chagrin, Annie made the finals. I get the reasons for it, and think that she's probably the strongest candidate -- I just don't like her and for me that does matter.

At one point in the boardroom -- after Trump fired Brande for being way out of her depth -- The Donald asked if Jesse would bring his wife to the finals should he be in them. Jesse did the classy thing -- he refused to answer. I respected Jesse even more for that. Trump didn't, he fired Jesse for not using his Hollywood contacts.

So, there you have it, next week we'll get the battle we've been wanting -- Joan versus Annie. If Joan can raise more cash she might be able to take this thing, but that happening is kind of like a 50-1 shot winning the Kentucky Derby.

I have to find out if there's still a way to donate money for Joan.

Bits and pieces:

  • Brande was all distressed in her one-on-one with the camera that Clint was on the other team for the jingle-writing. She tried to spell the word "crap" but it came out "S-R-A-P." I'm not actually surprised by that, no matter how much she says that she's not a dumb blonde.
  • At this point, how do you feel about Jesse? I still love everything about the guy and think he did the right thing in the boardroom. Do you disagree? Should he have promised Hollywood money so that he could make the finals?

The TV and Film Guy's Reviews - 50-1? We like those odds.

Once Annie and Brande won the chicken of the sea task everyone should have known right there and then the final two would be Annie and Joan.

Brande had a small outside chance of getting in, but Trump wanted to see Annie and Joan for the ratings.

Jesse was worthless. I don't even know how he made it this far. How can he say I'm an "average guy" with a blue collar job??????? HELLO? You are married to a wealthy actress. Maybe she keeps all the money to herself?

Joan should have been fired for all the crap she's pulled. I don't get how anyone could sympathise with her or that useless daughter of hers.

Setting up the Joan vs. Annie finale was the obvious way they were going to take this thing, but for a brief moment after Clint got fired, I hoped that Trump would be sadistic and force Joan & Annie to be a team or be fired if they refused. THAT would have been some good times.

Clearly seen that it would be Annie vs. Joan. Ho, hum. And clear to see that Annie wins. Ho, hum.

Think Piers didn't pick them not just because of their abilities, but because of good tv? Think that Trump won't pick Annie like he did her "brother" in evil, Piers?

Yeah. I can't stand Annie. She is the best of the bunch. I AGREE!!! She has raised the most money which this show is about. I AGREE! If she wins, she deserves this most shallow title.

She deserves it. But I will NEVER applaud her.

Jesse should have been in the final two. He had some great ideas and when his were used they usually were the strongest aspects of the team's output. He wasn't good at schmoozing Trump and frankly I think the Don was afraid of him and liked the chance to get rid of him and pin it on Piers. Piers has a big issue with car/motorcycle guys, he got into a fist fight with Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson.

O.k. First off Josh I think your dislike of Annie is tanting your opinion more than a tas. It was a good jingle. When even Joan complements it, so know it dosen't suck. Annie's reaction to winning wasn't about the fact she thinks she'll be the next biggest thing the Nashville. It was about her the tone death person, who dosen't know how to write music beat Clint Black. You beat Brian dde Palma in a film making contest are you not gonna celebrate? If you said yes your lying.

And to Mr. Trump or as I will refer to him for the rest of these comments Mr. Idiot. I have just one thing to say. Sir for weeks we have listened to your pathetic wihning about Jesse not dragging Sandra Bullock onto the show. Even to the point of questioning her judgement in marrying him. Mr. Idiot next time if your that desperate to have someone on the show here is a simple idea. Have them on. Don't invite thier spouse and then annoy us with your petty whinning.

TEAM JOAN FOR THE WIN!!!
Did you happen to catch in the previews for next week Annie's team of: Brande, Tom Green, and Denis Rodman. And I think Joan had Melissa, Jesse, and I think it was either Clint or Hershell. Can't wait to see the showdown. This season has been highly entertaining!! Love Joan and Melissa!

I believe its "tone deaf" not "tone death".....

I am hoping they just picked Joan for ratings. I find it hard to believe that Donald Trump would pick anyone who could spew such venom at people. it would be pathetic if Donald picked Joan Rivers after her unprofessional tirades. I get that it brings good ratings, but in the end, I am hoping he picks the smarter more professional candidate as "The Apprentice" So far i have only see joan get her way by spewing personal attacks at the others. Im hoping Donald stops kissing her fanny because he so far has only showed me that he is intimadted by that type of behavior. He has never got on her case about her behavior and he would never have put up with that from anyone else.

Annie has been the smartest, cut-throat, bravest competitor on in this season.

Do you think for one second Donald Trump is going to pick a person who is not willing to be deceitful, smart, and also willing to stab someone in the back to get to the top. Your dreaming.

Business saavy people have this kind of mentality built in them. It's the only to stay at the top of their game and they tend to make the most money.

Although Annie didn't play the game as people most often say "integrity". It's the smartest way to this game. You play to win, not to coast through the game, not to come in second place, and you'll do anything and everything to win.

I met Annie a few times both at the poker table and just talking to her as a regular person yo meet. Completely different person, she's a professional poker player, it's her job is to win. She uses her skills of reading people, getting under people skin, maybe trick "bluff" a few times. But she is in the finale and she'll probably win too.

I agree that Jesse has retained his blue collar image. He is a self made man and should be proud.

Joan Rivers is the best!
